The highlight of this trip to Kuala Lumpur was an interesting hotel in Chinatown.
The hotel renovated the landmark Nan Yi Building in the 1930s. The main structure remained unchanged, but the four floors of the atrium were opened up, allowing sunlight to penetrate directly from the roof to the restaurant on the ground floor. Check-in was in the living room on the first floor, and each floor had different public areas.
The second floor was the library, the third floor was the gym and floating meditation chamber (unfortunately I didn't experience it this time with my children), and the fourth floor was the bar and swimming pool, with a view of the Petronas Twin Towers and the Kuala Lumpur Tower.
The mantra room we booked was the smallest, only 25 square meters, with herringbone wood flooring. The compact layout was reasonable, the rattan bed backboard was very Nanyang-style, and everything from the trash can to the water cup, coffee cup, and cotton slippers were specially customized.
Looking out the window was Petaling Street, and across the street was the "Happy Snack Shop" where I would buy durian puffs many years ago.
It seems as if time has stopped in Chinatown. The Jinlian Ji Fujian Noodles, Hon Kee Congee, Xin Jiuru Beef Noodles, and Luo Han Guo Longan Ice Stewed Winter Melon from ten years ago are all still there.
