Dolphin Inn - the Lodge
3.5/540 Reviews
Paddington
I have more relaxed room requirements. I think as long as the bedding is relatively clean1, I am more satisfied with a separate bathroom. For some reason, I had to leave Shakespeare, move down from the top floor, check out, and wait three hours to check in with the dolphin. This time it's good, it's arranged on the first floor 884. The space is larger than Shakespeare's 441, and the bed is more comfortable.
Mitre House Hotel

Paddington
Staff friendly and helpful. The room was small but well appointed and quiet. Shower is in a half enclosure which means an unavoidable puddle on the floor and no bath mat provided so you'll have to throw down a towel. The room was straightened in our absence during the day. The hotel gives vouchers for breakfast at a busy cafe around the corner. There are as many tables crowded into the room as they could fit. The hassled staff there plunk a plate down with two eggs staring at you, oozing beans, a token piece of bacon and thin, white bread toast like people used to eat it 1965. If you want a bit of jam, you'll have to pay for it. There's often a line of people waiting for you to vacate the table. The breakfast is not at all a pleasant start to your day and a hotel as well run as Mitre house should make other arrangements.
Balmoral House Hotel

Paddington
Pleasantly surprised by the hotel, very close to Paddington Station, easy access to the West End by bus and tube. Receptionist very helpful, room was ready when we arrived at 11am, which was great, it was very clean with a good supply of coffee and tea plus biscuits all good quality. Slight down side was a vey small shower room and toilet, the shower itself was very weak. The room was cleaned to a high standard every day. The breakfast was good, the waiter very good, nothing too much trouble. Would definitely stay again. Good value for the money paid.
The Gresham Hotel
3.6/549 Reviews
Paddington
The Gresham Hotel is in an ideal location, clean and tidy room, safe environment, friendly and accommodating customer service, and nice breakfast. The breakfast consists of an English breakfast (sausages, eggs, tomatoes, beans), and also buffet selection of bread to be toasted, jam, cereal, drinks, and fruits. The reception people were very helpful with directions to attractions and places in London. The Gresham Hotel is 10 minutes walk from Paddington Station (Paddington Express to Heathrow Airport), about 8 minutes from Paddington metro underground station, and 10 minutes from Lancaster Gate station.
Hilton London Paddington

Paddington
The reception staff in general are very friendly and accommodating with a particular mention of the young guy with slim built and glasses. He really made effort to accommodate me by having my room ready way before their 4 pm checking- in time. I appreciated so much what he and his team mates did. The location is just fabulous with Paddington station just next to the hotel. I was able to use it to get in and out of the hotel during my stay. Worth noting that there are two mini supermarkets inside the station, making shopping for bits and pieces so easy. The draw back is that there is no fridge in the room which is kind of rare for a hotel, let alone one of the Hilton hotels. The amenities really should include a pair of slippers for guests. Overall, I had an enjoyable stay there and won’t hesitate to go back there if I ever visit London again.
Hotel Indigo London - Paddington

Paddington
We had a very disappointing stay at Hotel Indigo, as our room was plagued with problems that the front desk had little sympathy for and lots of excuses. Half our stay (4 out of 8 nights) we went without AC - 4 sleepless nights in a room with temperatures in the 80s. Every time we reported it to the front desk, we were given a different excuse - from “it’s a known issue”, to “the whole neighborhood block is having problems (which made zero sense as AC in every other part of the hotel), to “maintenance is looking into it”. One morning, our room lost all power, and again, after a sleepless night, we made our way to the front desk, where we were told it was a neighborhood power grid issue. I explained that made no sense, as the maid next door was vacuuming and no where else in the hotel had lost power. Thankfully maintenance came to investigate (after much arguing with the front desk) and he said the card key controller that powers the room was broken, hence no power. A whole morning was lost to this, and we missed our prepaid excursion. Another morning the safe would not open - which is a horrible feeling with all our cash and passports locked away. Again, more time wasted waiting for someone to come and fix - maintenance told us not to use as the safe was old and broken. My biggest complaint was the lack of concern and attention from the front desk. No one seemed to know or care what we were going through, and we were made to feel like a nuisance when we had serious problems with our room. Upon checkout, we were asked how our stay was. I said it was honestly very disappointing, and explained all the issues we had. The front desk replied “Oh, I’m sorry. Would you like a copy of your invoice?”. Upon our return home, I received an email from the hotel inviting me to share feedback on our stay. I documented all the above, and asked for a follow-up reply. Almost immediately after it was sent, I received a form letter reply. As a loyal IHG Gold Elite member, I purposely booked this property over Marriott Bonvoy, even though this stay cost us much more. After this unacceptable experience, I will be spending future hotel stays with Marriott Bonvoy, where I am respected as a guest.
