Make sure you don't arrive before 4 o'clock or you will receive a rough reception with the owner. Being a hotel we thought we could have a drink and wait for our room. The owner just annoyed and spoke to us rudely. He was understandbly stressed because of his wife, but there is no need for rudeness.

This is a homely and comfortable family run hotel in a convenient location for exploring East Sussex. What really makes it special, though, is the individual service you receive - where nothing is too much trouble. The food is of a really good quality, plentiful, and cooked to order by co-owner and chef Phil. They also accommodated my food allergies, which was much appreciated. This is a bijou hotel of only 8 bedrooms and would be good for celebrating a family occasion.

Thank you for another great stay as always a pleasure to stay and sample excellent food. The highest quality food as always. Also great company with the other guests on this visit. Look forward to seeing you both on my next trip and enjoy both a great hotel and food and your company.

Excellent hosts, evening meals were ordered in advance and cooked to perfection. Rooms have smart tvs that allow you to log in to netflix etc, good wifi in rooms and beds are comfortable. Cosiest little bar downstairs with a good choice of ales will certainly stay again if I'm in the area.

Very comfortable stay for 1 night, excellent food and very hospitable hosts. Evening meal is prepared to order and cooked fresh so you are asked to make your menu selection prior to arrival and with good attention to detail, as my preferences were remembered from my call when making the booking,Good breakfast included in the room rate.

Nicky and Philip gave us a warm welcome and the cooked breakfast was superb. My husband in passing had whilst booking mentioned my milk intolerence and I was so impressed to find oat yoghurt at breakfast I was in seventh heaven. My mother was given a very generous single room, no single supplement, with a bathroom across the corridor, bathrobes were provided. My husband and I were given a room with a balcony and I sat enjoying the fresh air with my coffee made in the room. If you are travelling about East Sussex I can definitely recommend this hotel.

We recently returned from a two night stay with our dog. However we only stayed the friday night and booked out at 7:45am Saturday morning. The reason we gave was that our small room was unbearably hot for us and our small dog to the point that we could not endure another night. Having received the bill we asked the proprietors if they would consider a small gesture of goodwill ie (cancel bar cost etc) but they were quite emphatic that due to their ruling of a minimum 3day cancellation the bill for both nights still stood at full cost! We also agree with some of the other comments made regarding the atitude of both husband and wife in that their hospitatilty sadly lacked to the point of rudeness. Finally we regard this experience as the worst of many stays anywhere.

We had a positively wonderful time staying at the Olde Forge Hotel this week as we settled our daughter into her freshman year at the International Campus of Queens University at Bader College/Herstmonceaux Castle. Nicky and Phillip are incredible hosts who are warm and welcoming and give the utmost care and consideration for each of their guests regarding schedules and questions and concerns. We personally enjoyed their lovely sense of humor and the time they took to get to know their guests and they also encouraged traveling guests to meet each other which was lovely as well. The fact that they have a dog friendly hotel is above and beyond generous and they have two sweet and well mannered dogs that helped me with missing my pup who stayed home in the US. Just look at the care they give for those traveling with their furry families! We enjoyed a tasty traditional English breakfast each morning and also had a delicious dinner from Chef Phillip as well. We look forward to staying here again!
