It was just under an hour by rental car from Matsumoto City. It was still autumn leaves season and warm, perfect for a drive. 100% natural hot spring water is great, and it's open until 9am so you can go in even at night. The food was also great, the staff, Japanese and foreign, were all smiling and it was a pleasant meal. There were many foreign guests staying, but they don't usually bathe in hot springs naked, so I wondered if they were able to enjoy the hot springs. Breakfast was also delicious, and even though the rice was from the hotel's big rice cooker, it was so good that I ate two bowls. They bring spring water from the restaurant and it was so delicious that I drank several bowls.

The hot spring is good, but it is old and expensive. The food is so-so. You need to be brave to live in the wilderness. There is no one on duty except the guests.

The staff was kind and helpful. The location of the Ryokan is magnificent , up in the mountain . We really loved it. The onsen was fantastic. Everything was neat. The dinner was amazing too.

Last minute I booked a hotel, there weren’t many choices, so I booked it when I saw it was so cheap and had a room. I only book to the old hotel, which is pretty clean and the hot springs are not bad. The location is very close to Kamikochi and Norikura bus stops when driving by car. However, the worst part is that you can’t go out for a picnic in the old hotel, and there are no restaurants nearby. In the end, you have to go out for a picnic with friends. The overall CP value is high but the food is very inconvenient. If I have the chance to stay again, I hope to book a dinner at the new hotel.

They offered a welcome drink, which is the industry standard, but it was rather shabby (lol). I guess it's impossible to compare it to major hotels. Perhaps the new staff member was inexperienced and misunderstood the dinner menu? The manager's grumpy attitude was also disappointing. Perhaps there is no personnel training. The famous Shirahone Onsen is a free-flowing hot spring, but it was heated. The scale, which was not hot spring water, was terrible and annoying. They also inspected the filtration system. I've been to Shirahone Onsen more than five times, but I won't be returning here.
