"The room and bathroom was clean and nice. We were driving but there were ample parking lots. We got the free welcome drinks, free ice cream, free chazuke and free morning coffee during our stay. We were able to see sunset from our room too. The public bath was clean too with all amenities provided, even with massage chairs. Totally enjoy our stay, the receptionist spoke good english too. very recommended."
"Great Stay at Hotel Courtland, Matsumoto!
Just wanted to drop a quick review for Hotel Courtland in Matsumoto—what a pleasant find!
The location is absolutely fantastic. Seriously, it's about a 5-minute, worry-free walk from the station. This was a huge plus, especially since we had luggage; no need to struggle or look for a taxi. Adding to the value, the price at the time of booking was very cheap, making this a fantastic deal!
As for the hotel itself, I have to say, it's exceptionally clean. Like, super clean. It made our stay feel very comfortable and relaxing.
What really stood out was the amazing hospitality. We arrived after a 4-hour ride from Tokyo and were pretty frozen from the winter shock. The staff kindly offered us a free early check-in, which was incredibly thoughtful and exactly what we needed to warm up and refresh. It really saved the day!
We didn't get a chance to try the breakfast this time, but based on everything else, I imagine it's great too.
Highly recommend this hotel if you're ever in Matsumoto!"
"Booked a room here for 1 day just to explore matsumoto. this hotel was a pretty good distance to walk to the tourist attraction such as the matsumoto castle and nawate shopping street. loved that they offered free icecream or ramen between 8:00-10:00 pm. If you ever check out and you still have time before your bus leaves, you can also ask front desk to keep your luggage so you can be luggage free exploring. they were super kind and understanding with all the requests we had."
"Family new hotel with 5 stars service from.all the staffs. Plenty of freebies like ice cream, coffee and late night Ramen for supper.
It is a hotel like a semi-Ryokan, no shoes and walk on socks or bare footed on tatami flooring.
We took a quadruple room and stayed for 3 nights. Size iis adequate for couple use. Onsen facilities is great with both indoor and outdoor hot spring bath. Bonus point is the sauna with different aroma everyday.
Location is perfect, walking distance to train and around 25mins walk to the castle. Restaurants are all close by less than 20mins walk.
Breakfast included and I will grade it as value for money.
Highly recommended to book your stay."
"The small room size is an understandable drawback. However, the location is truly excellent and convenient; you don't even need to cross the street after exiting the JR station, just walk five minutes to your right, slightly inwards.
The facilities are clean and complete. The self check-in/check-out is a nice touch. Breakfast is neither good nor bad, simple but filling.
Matsumoto is a small but beautiful place, worth revisiting if you're just passing through. You'll definitely become a soba noodle expert after trying a few different shops!"
"The room was a bit small, but still functional. The facilities were basic, and the onsen was tiny. It's quite close to Matsumoto Castle. We drove there, and the parking was relatively convenient with moderate fees. The service was good."
"Stayed for four days, and the location is very close to the station. The room is tiny, and the bed is also small, a bit cramped for two people. There's a hot spring on the top floor which I used twice, and it was pretty good. The Wi-Fi signal wasn't great either. Overall, you can't expect too much from this hotel, but if you're looking for value for money, it's a decent option."
"It is a pleasure to stay at this hotel because of its cleanliness and the services it provides. Despite the fact that the property is old and needs some renovation, I am still happy to leave a very good review. The hotel provides a free shuttle service to Matsumoto station. Additionally, it offers complimentary onsen access at another hotel, with shuttle bus service included. Hotel guests should make full use of these. Reminder: To ensure your seat at the onsen, please make the reservation by 9am every day. I will stay at this hotel again when I visit Matsumoto next time."
"The hotel is in a great location, walking distance from the JR station. Stuffs are very polite and welcoming. The first room that assigned to us had cigarate smell, we went back to the lobby to let the front desk know. They immediately assigned us another room. The twin bedroom was spacious and clean. The public bath was not big, but very comfortable, they also have outdoor bath. The green tea shop next door was a highlight, please don't miss the ice cream there. We enjoyed our stay in Matsumoto. We will surely be back."
"Signboard of the hotel is not visible. Parking facility is away from the hotel premises, could be disadvantage when raining. The room is very small for 3 persons and moldy. The air conditioning is useless, the room is very hot and stuffy and we need to open the window for cool air. Breakfast is too simple."

Amazing
TTxjemI had a wonderful experience here at Cafe&Stay Castana. The room was clean and comfortable, a great find at this price! The location is great with a free parking lot available, and with a huge supermarket conveniently located beside. However, I have to especially commend the staff, they were so friendly and accommodating to our needs! As you know, sometimes travellers are disoriented and stressed, and their willingness to help is deeply appreciated. I also had to ask for directions to a doctor as I fell sick, and they went above and beyond to take care of me. I could have only experienced this humanity at a small enterprise like this, and am very grateful.
AAnonymous UserI had the amazing opportunity to stay at a traditional Japanese ryokan, and it was an unforgettable experience. From the moment I arrived, I was welcomed with warm hospitality that made me feel right at home. The ryokan was beautifully designed with classic Japanese architecture, tatami mat flooring.
My room was serene and minimalistic, featuring a comfortable futon laid out on the tatami mats in the evening. I especially enjoyed wearing the yukata provided and walking around the ryokan feeling completely immersed in Japanese culture.
One of the highlights of my stay was the onsen (hot spring bath). Soaking in the warm water was incredibly relaxing and refreshing.
Staying at a ryokan allowed me to experience the calm, simplicity, and beauty of traditional Japanese living. I highly recommend it to anyone seeking an authentic and peaceful retreat in Japan.
IInstandyFukashiso could be one of the loveliest accommodation that I have ever stayed at. The staff were very polite, attentive and extremely helpful and courteous. The place itself is so beautiful and quaint. Traditional garments are provided as an option if you want to dress up for dinner. Made for great photo ops! The Kaiseki was the most beautiful equivalent of a degustation I’ve tried, and it was served in a lovely separate intimate dining area. During dinner Nobu-San a fourth generation family member of the owners greeted us which was a lovely touch. Soba was freshly made at the accomodation. We stayed two nights and the Kaiseki menu was different each time. Breakfast was a nice assortment of Japanese and Western options and the coffee machine was actually pretty good. I enjoyed the onsens, there are two public ones that switch locations for men and women and a private one. They were well equipped and relaxing. Our room was on Level 1 with a private bathroom, seating area and little garden view. Overall this place is highly recommended. For a traditional ryokan experience, it was so nice. Even after we checked out, the receptionist gave us a little gift, and even walked us outside to where our car was parked. Such a warm and lovely place. Stay here for sure!
Kkfmy1225Even though we arrived after 11pm, the hot spring was still open. The hot spring was very comfortable and satisfying. However, even though I had contacted them in advance to say I would be arriving late, they contacted me in the evening of my stay to say that dinner was ready. I wish they had confirmed whether dinner would be available in the evening when I contacted them in advance. Also, the futon was too thin, so my body ached and I couldn't get rid of my fatigue.
AAnonymous UserAfter playing in the upper highlands, take the car and change the car at Zedu (k20). After getting off the bus at Baigu Hot Spring, it is in the case. An elderly person will ask you about the hotel you booked, and then call the hotel. The hotel has a car to pick up (although not far away, it is all up the mountain road). The service attitude was very good, the front desk met a Hong Kong person, very patient to help us plan the next day's itinerary. The hot springs are open-air.
GGuest UserThe hotel has a weird smell in the lift and lobby when you entered the building. Room wise is ok. staff are friendly and helpful. they offer drinks including alcoholic drinks till 8pm every night. Hotel breakfast is fresh and good.
location is good as it is close to the JR station and the price is reasonable.
but the hotel needs to improve the smell in the building. people who are budget conscious can go for this choice.
GGuest UserIt seems like it has recently been renovated, so some of the basic parts are still old, but it was well-maintained and the facility was clean. I think the meals were well-balanced without being too heavy on meat.
The bath is said to come from a hot spring source, but it was so hot that I had to be careful to get into it. However, I think the power of the hot springs is that I was able to stay in light clothes until the morning without getting cold. If the changing room is dark, you will not feel safe, so I think it would be better if it was a little brighter.
I think the distance between the staff was just right, but since my luggage was heavy, I wish I had an elevator.
GGuest UserRent a car from Matsumoto City 1 time weak. Still in the red leaves season
It was warm and sunny for a drive. The source is 100% good, and it is open until 9 am, so you can enter even at night.
The meal was good, and it was a pleasant meal with a smile, including staff, Japanese and foreigners. I had a lot of foreigners staying, but I didn't have the habit of entering the hot spring naked, so I was wondering if I could enjoy the hot spring. Breakfast was delicious and I ate two cups even though it was a big rice cooker in the hotel. I was pulling the spring water and it was delicious and I drank many cups.
KKvaldirThe location is very great with all the nature around. The htoel. Has a little shop as well, but ofcourse the best thing about the hotel is the onsen. The onsen is open 24/7,so you can make use of it whenever you want. The resutaurant closes relatively early, and you must reserve it, but otherwise you can buy some very affordable microwave food in the shoop, and they will warm it up for you, so that was a great service. Great place!
GGuest UserHonestly, I can't praise this place enough.
The owners are a really lovely couple; very welcoming and extremely helpful. The rooms are great - plenty of space and all the amenities you need for a short stay. The onsen is just the best - it's a private one that you can lock the door to and have to yourself for as long as you can cope with the hot water!
But the *food* - wow! The food is absolutely fantastic and expertly cooked. Honestly, I've eaten in Michelin starred restaurants with food that wasn't as good as this. On top of that, at our first evening meal, we found that the message hadn't been relayed about my wife being a pescatarian. Anywhere else that might have been a problem, but within twenty-five minutes an entire new fish meal had been prepared and served - and was absolutely amazing. We were SO impressed.
Also, what a truly beautiful location. Oh yes, and they have *monkeys*!! They wandered past the property in the evening and wandered back the next morning.
I'm trying to name anything negative and I honestly can't - the closest thing I can think of is that the property is hard to locate and you definitely need a car to get there, but if you can get there, do - it was one of two equal-best places we've stayed at in Japan.
Thank you to the owners (sorry, I never asked your names) for a wonderful stay in your home.
