Hotel Gault

Old Montreal
This hotel in Old Montreal has a wonderful location, so close to great restaurants like the new Moishe’s Steak House, and Holder. It is small, clean and comfortable with lots of large windows. The reception and breakfast area is large and light. The Loft rooms are very comfortable and spacious with Molton Brown amenities and a Nespresso machine. The large windows open and have pretty flower boxes. The layout of an ‘open concept’ bathroom and closets might not appeal to all, but we liked the quirkiness. The decor could stand some updating. For example, the two occasional chairs in our room were quite worn and the hallway carpet stained. Our housekeeper was excellent. Reception staff were generally accommodating. The food at breakfast was excellent but the service could stand improvement. One morning it took 30 minutes to get a cappuccino. In fairness, another morning’s room service breakfast arrived promptly. But another morning we seemed to be forgotten. This may be a post-Covid staffing problem however. At check out, a detailed statement of daily charges and credit certificates was lacking. When we arrived, we asked for additional pillows but none were available initially. We got one the second night after the other woman who had it checked out! We would probably stay here again if these small but irritating issues were fixed.
Hotel Place d'Armes

Downtown Montreal
We stayed at the Hotel Place d'Armes for four nights. We stayed there primarily because of its location. We were not disappointed. Right in the heart of Old Montreal, the hotel was perfectly located (across from the plaza of the same name) for what we wanted to see and do. In addition, it had a reputation as a nice upscale hotel that treated its guests well. We weren't disappointed there either. When we arrived by cab, Carl greeted us at the door, relieved us of luggage, and ushered us to Jolemie who checked us in and assigned us to a room (in building two) that was tastefully and comfortably furnished. She answered all our questions in a friendly manner and gave us tips about the area. Carl brought bags to our room, made sure we saw all the features, explained how things worked, and then left us to relax. The next day we met Sam, another staff member in the reception area, who answered more of our questions, gave suggestions about where to go, what to do, where to eat. These three individuals set the tone for our stay and made it a positive experience. But, let's be honest, no hotel is perfect so we did encounter a couple of glitches I should note. My wife and I are tea drinkers. While there was a coffeemaker in the room, there was no tea kettle or tea. There was coffee in the lobby, but there too, there was no hot water. Okay, we can live with that; we just went to a local cafe, but that meant going out a little earlier than we wanted to. The other thing was a bit strange. Saturday morning we asked the concierge to please make dinner reservations for us a particular popular restaurant. A few hours later we got a call from him that the restaurant was all booked up. But we went to the restaurant anyway thinking that there's always room for walk-ins even if we have to wait. We were right. There was room. And we didn't have to wait. We were seated immediately and enjoyed our meal. But, we have to ask, why wouldn't a knowledgeable concierge suggest just walking in. No matter. We still like Hotel Place d'Armes and would recommend it. Thank you Jolemie, Carl, and Sam..

Hotel St Paul
4.1/5100 Reviews
Old Montreal
I recently stayed at St Paul. I found the hotel to be in a very Central Location a block from the Old City but on a street with some excellent restaurants. The Hotel is in a really nice old building with a nice stylish lobby. The room was very large with a very comfortable bed and a nice bathroom with a large tub the room was super quiet. The front desk staff was friendly and very helpful when we had questions. The hotel will park your car for you for a fee or you can park yourself at one of the public lots close to the hotel. The areas that I thought could use some improvement were. In the room, the refrigerator had drinks for sale but if you wanted free bottled water you had to ask the front desk. In a boutique hotel, I would expect slippers would be in the room and bottled water. Again you had to ask the front desk. The room had Shutters for shades but the shutters had holes that let light in so in the morning you had light early. I believe shutters our only for the top floor rooms. The toiletries were not what I would expect from a hotel of this standard so that was disappointing as well. Lastly, if the hotel reviews this review might I suggest putting a pic of Old Montreal in the room on the wall. In the end, I would recommend St Paul to travelers for a nice comfortable stay.
David Hotel

Old Montreal
The minimalist contemporary design of our loft pleased us very much. Everything was designed with tremendous attention to detail, both aesthetically and functionally perfect! The bed had the most restfully firm yet pliant memory-foam mattress ever, and we've never slept so well! The kitchen was beautifully equipped with high-quality appliances and all utensils and plates. Everything was explained clearly with either witty little messages on drawers and switches, or videos explaining what to do on the hotel app. The loft was also equipped with state-of-the-art laundry appliances. The walk in shower was gorgeous. We were blown away by the elegant and thoughtful design of.......everything! Whenever we had any quiries or needed to have supplies refreshed, we always got an immediate response from virtual reception, and supplies arrived quickly afterwards at our door. If people are wanting an overstuffed, overcarpetted, overdecorated plush kind of hotel room, they won't find it at the David. Guests who appreciate the thoughtul creation and care behind this contemporary minilmalist beauty will be ecstatic. So much space, so much calm. Oh, and not to forget the lighting! So many creative ideas here. Concealed ambient lights, task light,s spots, reading lights......it's possible to create exactly the mood you want in all corners of the space. There's an elevator by the way, and the hotel is placed in an ideal position to walk to Sherbrooke, to McGill, to the Musée des Beaux-Arts, to the Old City, to the Village, Downtown, to the Place des Arts, and only 3 minutes walk from a subway station. And restaurants north and south, and a fantastic épicerie, with fabulous cheeses, deli, cured meats, bread, wine etc etc, just around the corner on Notre Dame. Quite unique. A great experience for us. We'll stay here again. Virtual connection to staff. Not traditional hotel. But same care and attention to detail in responses to our requests. We will stay here again
Hotel Bonaparte

Old Montreal
Two weeks ago my wife Pat and I stayed at Hotel Bonaparte for a long weekend and thoroughly enjoyed our stay. The Hotel is just lovely and the staff could not have been more accommodating. Throughout the weekend the reception staff answered all our questions and provided helpful suggestions which really enhanced our stay. Special mention to Jason and Amy who could not have been more helpful and pleasant, as well as the gentleman Saturday morning (can't remember his name) who gave us maps of the city and took the time to point out various places of interest for our walk around the city as well as some excellent restaurant recommendations. The Hotel rooms are attractive and perfectly clean. Our room, facing the courtyard, was very quiet with a lovely view of the Notre Dame Basilica. The Hotel Restaurant is excellent; a lovely breakfast each morning (included in the room rate) and a lovely dinner one evening. The restaurant wait staff is excellent and very friendly. Located in the heart of Old Montreal, the Hotel Bonaparte is the perfect place to stay for a lovely visit.
