I was a bit daunted by reviews when booking but was pleasantly surprised. Firstly, you get what you pay for (and a bit more). It’s a hostel with private rooms, not a hotel. Once you realize that, you manage your expectations. It is in a prime location next to Central Park and a short walk to Times Square. It is near a metro station and there are lots of stores and restaurants nearby. The room was adequate (I booked a single room). It was clean and comfortable. Inside the room was a small tv, a small refrigerator, a desk a twin bed and a small closet area. I wasn’t too concerned about the room because I didn’t intend to spend much time in there but it was comfortable enough for my stay. The bathrooms are shared but are privately used so you don’t actually share it with anyone while using. It was always clean and regularly checked (but of course as they are shared some people clear up after themselves better than others). There were several so I never needed to wait more than a few mins. The shower pressure was fine and the water temperature was perfect for me. Even though you pay for gym and facility use when you stay, I never used them so can’t comment on them. The checkin and check out processes were easy. The staff were all friend and helpful. The building felt safe and I never felt worried about anything. I don’t really have any negatives to comment on. There was a little noise at time from other residents but that’s beyond the control of the staff etc.

The room's facilities are very basic, consisting of only a table, chairs, a mirror, a safe, a few clothes hangers, and a bunk bed. When you sit on the lower bed, you can't sit upright because your head will hit the upper bed. The floor and walls are dirty. You have to share the bathroom with others, and the hygiene isn't very good. There are no toothpaste, toothbrush, shower gel, shampoo, hair dryer, or slippers provided, and not even a bottle of water. At least the staff at the check-in lobby are friendly, and the bed is soft and comfortable, though it's a bit noisy. Fortunately, I only booked it for one night.

Worst hotel i have ever stayed. I didn’t know I’m booking a garbage can. Super dirty, bed with speaker (super noisy), walls paints are falling apart, and nevertheless reception was so rude. Who doesn’t like a little cheap but for $150 this experience totally worthless. Never again!

The location and price of the Y are what make it so worthwhile. The subway to everywhere is two blocks away. Being right on the park is amazing. The gym is also a nice perk, with a sauna, beautiful old pools, and very clean showers, as is the opportunity to mingle with people from around the world. It was a bit gross however, honestly. My room stank of body odor and I had to hand scrub it myself to make it go away, the floor was pretty sticky, and most of my showers on my floor were cold. The staff were mixed in how they responded to this - some of them incredibly concerned, generous and helpful and others barely able to lift an eyebrow of concern.

Perfect location. The rooms are clean, enough towels are provided. From an environmental viewpoint it is weird to have the heating on and the windows don't fully shut, in the next renovation cycle you may add that to the list.

Rooms are hit or miss at times. Sometimes you may get a clean room with a tv that works. This time the room had a clear moisture issue as the paint along the walls and ceiling showed signs of water damage, and were bubbling. The tv wouldn’t work and the outlets didn’t look safe to use.

The location is good, close to Columbus Circle and Lincoln Center(within 10 minutes walk). It's clean. However, the air-conditioner in the first room on 9th floor we were assigned to didn't blow cool air out and the corridor was cooler than the room. The air conditioning in the second room on 13th floor was fine but an electrical socket didn't have cover panel so it might be dangerous. People are nice so we could find economical food but the information provided by different staff on the same topic were different so we had to pay a high price to reach Newark Airport by Lyft. The city is compact and we can easily go to the sightseeing places. The subway is old and really needs plannings to renovate, upgrade and modernize. The air in Central Park is very refreshing. As a whole, I like the convenience of the city but the infrastructure needs reconstruction. The hotel may need renovations on the room facilities as well. It's alright overall considering the price in the city.

Great location accommodations are simple but get you through a stay. The other guest could do better about not letting their doors slams all night.
