What a wonderful evening , we enjoyed some of the best food we have ever had , simple food ,good produce ,clearly cooked with skill and knowledge , I have to say there is normally something I have a moan about, but not this time .We arrived to the welcome of a candlelight entrance inviting us in with the comforting smell of log fires ,the staff were friendly and attentive we were seated at our table by the bar in front of the log fire which was perfect , the staff were very attuned noticing when a candle had turned out and that we needed more water the attention was great but not stifling , just right . The service was efficient we didn’t seem to be waiting very long between courses . The food was second to none with amazing flavours , the lamb on a sourdough crumpet starter was to die for , so succulent with immense flavour absolutely 5star , my husband had the chicken supreme with fondant potato which I soon wished I had ordered it was melt in the mouth delicious and the flavour balance was on point , I had the gnocchi with blue cheese and butternut squash which was also on another level . We don’t normally have puddings but as the other courses were so good we couldn’t resist and we were not disappointed the banana tart with home made icecream was truly delicious and the parfait with pear sorbet was so good . The price was reflective of the quality and fair we didn’t think twice about paying the service charge which we normally begrudge due to there always being some little niggles . The ambiance was relaxed but professional , the pub retained all its character and charm without feeling dated or musty and stuck in the past . There’s no doubt we will return soon and we will be recommending to all our friends and family . Absolutely 5 Star experience Thank you to all the staff that make it happen What a great team it clearly shows .

A long weekend stay to celebrate our wedding anniversary, 40-years after we first stayed at the hotel. The Graves family have owned the hotel all that time and it tells; the attention to detail and to their guests is first class and every one of our stays has been first class. The rooms are comfortable and well appointed, the bar is very well stocked and the restaurant serves some of the best food in the area. And all this within the warmth and cosiness of a traditional Dartmoor pub.

A comfortable overnight stay, very friendly and helpful staff (both in advance and when we were there, allowing early access to our room) and a good breakfast in a sunny room. Decent value for money. Best accessed from the road up from Bovey Tracey.

Visiting friends family down in Devon and we booked a table here after a quick stomp up Heytor before our long journey back home. We all had the beef roast dinner, which was superb. Cauliflower cheese wasn't showing as part of the dish, but we did request (as it's our favourite) to be told it is included, and my goodness it was EXCELLENT. We all had puddings too, very well presented and tasty. Filled us up for our horribly slow 6 hour drive home! Would definitely come again, thank you!

On a hot, sunny day, this pub was like an oasis in the desert during our walk up to Haytor Rocks. On our way back down, a welcome pint of cider served by a very cheerful lady whom also offered us water immediately upon entering. Much appreciated and much needed. Checked out menu too which looked great for an evening meal although our plans never allowed us to return.

Fabulous stay. We had a two night stay here last weekend. The room was well equipped and comfortable. We love the history of this particular gem. The food here is excellent, top quality and locally sourced. The breakfast is plentiful and gives you good choice. I particularly loved the yogurt compote freshly made. We also walked around the woods at the back of the Inn and also on Dartmoor itself. Oliver and the team are very accommodating and friendly. Nothing is too much trouble. Highly recommend.

The Rock Inn never disappoints, a lovely idyll of a place which maintains its tradition as an 18th Century Inn full of history and antique charm. The food is excellent and the beds most comfortable. The staff are wonderfully helpful and attentive. The cost restaurant come bar is welcoming with a large inglenook fireplace blazing away to keep to give this room a traditional ambience of times past. We love this place and will be back again.
