This amazing hotel is located in the heart of Kinugawa with views over the gorge and is a 15 minute drive to Nikko. On arrival there are staff to take your car and bags and to check you in which is a seamless experience. There is coffee and tea available on arrival while you wait. This occurs in a pleasant lounge overlooking the forested valley. Across from the lounge is a well appointed shop. We had room 212 for three nights which was a spacious room done in traditional Japanese style. Although plainly decorated it had a very authentic feel and design. The room had a nice balcony but this could not easily be used as the afternoons were hot. There was minimal view from this room limited to trees and forested hillside and not the river. Perhaps the higher floors would likely have a better view. Spacious bathroom with a separate toilet. Good shower but no external curtain or privacy screen available. Along with the Onsen being out in the open on the balcony we found this lacked privacy for our liking. There was excellent responsive air conditioning. The room rate includes free mini bar with beer and iced tea and water. Only negative was poor quality towels and tissues. All staff were extremely attentive and nothing is too much for them. Excellent Alacarte breakfast was brought directly to your table. You are offered a choice between Japanese and Western breakfast. Some options rotated each day. Apart from this the choice was limited to 3 types of eggs. Everything was quality. Included in the rate was half board dinner each evening. Whilst you are at dinner your futon bed is made up in your room complete with turn down service which was usually a snack for later in the evening. The meal is 2 plus hours and very Japanese but again absolute quality. After three nights it does feel excessive to be enjoying a lengthy multi course menu but we did get to experience many meals that we would not normally try. The attention to detail went so far as having different crockery for each course. Some of these were very artistic. Overall this is an amazing one off experience although you do pay for the privilege.

I was able to check in smoothly with valet parking, and checked in while enjoying welcome tea in the open lounge. The room was lovely, and I especially enjoyed sitting on the chairs on the balcony and enjoying the view of the Kinugawa River and the cool autumn air. The food was delicious, and it was nice to see a selection of local Tochigi sake. Breakfast was also great. The young and cute staff member who showed me around was also very kind. The only thing I noticed was that the shampoo and soap in the bath were not very good, so next time I'll bring my favorite ones with me.

The lobby was very comfortable with a calm and open feeling. There was a large window, so I could go outside and relax on the sofa. The room I stayed in was comfortable, but the time I spent drinking coffee while looking at the trees from the lobby window was a very luxurious time for me, who is always pressed for time. The customer service of the hotel staff was also the best of any hotel I have stayed at. I appreciate the appropriate distance and consideration. The food and bath were also very good, and the chocolate cart service after the meal was very good and not available at other hotels. If I had to say something, I would like the quality of the amenities to be improved. The items prepared may differ depending on the rank of the room, but I would be happy if they could prepare them by checking whether they are necessary when staying. Also, although it is a small thing, there was a little stain left on the toilet seat. It was not a big stain, but it was not pleasant, so I hope they will be careful. Overall, the hotel met my expectations and I would like to stay again if I have time.

From check-in to check-out, this is an inn that takes care of you. There were some unfamiliar staff, but they weren't used to it yet, but they must have been working hard. I was impressed by the decaf coffee that was served to me when I checked in, but when I asked if I should take a rest in the lobby after taking a bath, I was served cold and delicious coffee milk, but it was also caffeine. Less coffee was used. The milk used was also from a nearby ranch. There was also pomegranate juice, but it was very delicious with exquisite sourness and sweetness. Of course, there were drinks such as coffee. Even the dinner was impressive! After dinner, I was impressed by the hotel's unique and delicious chocolate and drink service in the lobby. After dinner, even after returning to the room, elegant and quiet jazz was playing, and the aroma was burning, in an adult space. I was able to really relax. It's hard to get a reservation, but it's an inn that I want to visit again and again.

I visited the hotel for the first time in nine years and the old, good parts of the hotel were still there, but the lobby lounge has been completely renovated. You can enjoy a quiet and relaxing atmosphere while overlooking the Kinugawa River. It has become a very comfortable adult space, and the antique furniture from Old Noritake makes you feel like you've traveled back in time.

Many of the staff were unintentionally brisk, so I was particularly impressed by the tired look on the driver's face when he took us to the station at the very end. I tried my best to make it look like a luxury hotel, but what can I say, it was a hotel that often turned white. As other people have said, there are too many self-praising advertisements of the founding family. There it is. The direct mail is too nice. Advertisement is good.

Stayed here because of the high reviews. Poor reception. There are staff who serve customers politely only for regulars, and it feels bad. Also, I was annoyed by the many signs in the hall that praised the great achievements of the founder (they have nothing to do with the guests). It's good to take pride in the organization you work for, but I feel like it's going in the wrong direction. Meals and rooms (Japanese-style room with open-air bath) are at the level of a semi-luxury inn. I think that the management here should study the new inns in the same price range without missing a long-established store. If things continue as they are now, only old people who are regulars will stay. Kinugawa Onsen is very deserted, and many of the surrounding restaurants are bad in terms of taste, hospitality, and cleanliness. The only good thing was going down the river.
