We made reservations here for one night specifically because we needed a very early ride to the airport, and the hotel had assured us that they provided this. We checked in at 9 pm, only to be told that the hotel didn't have a driver and we would have to figure out our 4 am ride on our own. We were stunned by this lack of courtesy, and thankfully we found a hotel down the road that provided the service we needed.

I've stayed in this hotel before while in Alameda and it's still a great choice. The rooms have been updated since my last stay and they're very comfortable. Our room had a separate seating area and kitchenette with microwave and fridge, so we really felt like we could stretch out. The location is terrific ... right in the heart of Alameda with many restaurants and stores within walking distance, but also with a quiet, neighborhood feel. There's a nice free breakfast in the morning and the staff members we met were both friendly and helpful. We didn't bring a car, but there was a large free parking lot available to anyone driving in.

The pros: Inexpensive Decent location Room has decent amenities The cons: Nonchalant service Smells like **** Limited breakfast options Lots of yelling Near the train No HVAC As mentioned above, this inn is a great location, with a great price, and you can tell they're trying. They had a fridge, a microwave, and a decently-sized TV in the room. More than I expected for $80~ish a night. The receptionists were what'd you expect at this price point, and the staff were mostly positive. Their breakfast options were also fairly limited, but if you were really hungry, it would do the job. While the HVAC system was broken, they did offer an extra portable heater that did the job. Unfortunately some things that they can't control really make the inn far worse than it tries to be. The behavior of their guests, their proximity to the train tracks, and the people yelling outside the hotel really affect the way guests experience the inn. Other guests were smoking **** that could be smelled all the way down the hall and in other rooms, and they were piling up so much trash they just started to leave it by their doors in the hallway. This is in addition to the fact that they were yelling and screaming, and the doors did little to muffle the sound. The yelling continued through midnight and kept waking me up throughout the night. This yelling came both from guests in the hallway and from people walking on the streets. I could also see how the room had been worn down by prior guests, with dents in the lampshade, stains on the carpet, and even though I could tell the cleaning staff put effort in the bathroom (towel folded into swan, etc), the light was malfunctioning. Thankfully, it didn't bother me much, but for those who aren't used to ”roughing it,” this might not be the place for you.

This is the second time we stayed in this hotel. I might stay here again, but I wouldn't necessarily say I'd be happy about it. On the plus side, it's easy to get to from I-80/580 and Berkeley/Oakland are pretty accessible from here. It's clean and well-equipped. The beds are comfortable. On the minus side, the rooms are pretty small, and there's nothing included with the basic price. Outside parking is $25 extra in an area where theft from parked cars is pretty high. If you want breakfast before leaving, prepare to shell out $28 to sit down (presumably before taxes), or $20 for the buffet. I'm glad I don't live here because the prices and crime are out of sight.

We chose this hotel because of the location for getting to the trolley, a Hop-on Hop-off tour stop, the local bus system, and the nearby BART system. For this it did not disappoint. The price is reasonable, and the hotel was very clean, and the staff was very friendly. From this, I digress. The noise level during the nights, was that a very loud level. All from external. Sirens, music, loud cars and trucks going by, garbage trucks in the middle of the night, quite a bit of yelling, and the like. Normal ear plugs did not help. If you stay here, you will need some heavy duty ear plugs. We get up earlier and the hotel lobby coffee was not ready ever before 7:00 a.m. there is coffee in the room, however if you need real creamer, you'll be out of luck until 7:00 approximately. Not a terrible review, just want people to be aware.

I booked in for 2 nights here as a solo female traveller. I had confirmation emails etc. as proof that I had booked a single room - I arrived at the hostel around 6.20pm on a Friday to find I had been placed in a large mixed dorm. The guy on the front desk was polite but totally unhelpful apparently under instruction from his manager. I offered to take any of the female dorms but was told all were sold out. I could not take the bed offered by them in the large mixed dorm, and they offered no like for like alternative. I was told that if i cancelled my stay/didn't check in I would lose my full amount paid as it was outside the cancellation period - they didn't grasp that within the cancellation period I was getting the room I booked, so it wasn't a cancellation on my behalf and was instead them not supplying what was purchased. I wasted so much time here to be offered no help while going through ********** customer support - I eventually gave up at 9:30pm when my employer forked out for a bed in another hotel for me. ********** were meant to get a full refund for me, as they failed to uphold their part of the sale, but 2.5 weeks later I've had or heard nothing from the hostel. To pay for something which is totally unavailable, with no budge room and no option for a refund, is a total scam. Do not book here as a solo female traveller as you will not be respected or safe.

Excellent
GGuest UserI was extremely disappointed with my recent stay. I spoke w/ the front desk manager & with many other staff during my stay at this location. This turned what was supposed to be an exciting, exploratory visit to Oakland for house hunting, into a bit of a drag and disappointment. I have outlined some of my feedback below as I think this should be addressed on a larger level so that others do not have the same experience as us. First, I am FUMING irritated by how I was treated by the valet at this hotel. It happened twice in the same evening, with the same person. He was rude, talked down to me about how to speak to the valet staff about how I need my car to be parked, and had extreme attitude, after making me move my own car several times because he was overwhelmed. This is unacceptable. I have driven cars in hundreds of hotels both in and out of the U.S. and I am not about to be talked down to by a valet attendant. The hotel itself. This hotel needs help. The bathroom is dirty and broken down. We had a tile loose above our bed that made us nervous to sleep and the floors were pretty gross in the bathroom. It was an extremely warm weekend in Oakland and our room was so warm and the AC was not working properly. We had to call and have a fan brought to our room because we couldn’t sleep. Also we had a lot of issues with the television not working on the internet. So had major limitations on working Netflix etc. The hotel service. We needed plates and silverware for take out one night. We had been out house hunting until later in the evening and we called for plates/silverware. I took nearly an hour to get these items to our room and we had to call more than once. We also requested our room to be serviced on Saturday (we called earlier in the morning to double check they would be coming). We had a stain on our sheets we wanted changed. We arrived back at the hotel later around 9pm after another day of house hunting to find our room completely untouched and unchanged. It was so frustrating because we were exhausted. This time I decided to speak to the manager on duty (who was friendly and understanding) but again had to call more than once because of the delays. Our room did not end up fully changed until 11pm. We stayed in Oakland because we are relocating back to the Bay Area and wanted to check out the East Bay and in particular Oakland, Rockridge and the Oakland hills. This is nowhere near the welcome we expected and was a major turn off to Oakland. Ya’ll need to get it together.
AAnonymous UserThe hotel is very new, the decoration and facilities are well designed, and the services are in place. There is a spacious and bright public area on the second floor where you can drink tea and coffee for free, which is suitable for simple business meetings. It is walking distance from BART station, Amtrak train station, and Chinatown, which is very convenient. The only thing that needs to be considered is the surrounding safety issues. Because it is located in the city center and the city hall is right outside the window. There are many homeless people, so try to go out as little as possible at night.
GGuest UserLack of clarity on the additional resort fee charged made for a disappointing checkout. Although I booked in the Accor App and it showed a total price with some comments in taxes, nowhere did it mention on an additional resort fee of $45 per day. I even spent 7 mins with the checkout agent to see where it was mentioned in my app booking but she could not find it. Disappointed with the lack of visibility on additional charges
GGuest UserI stay at the property every time I visit my family and friends in the bay area. I always can count on a clean quiet room and good service. I typically check in at night and there is always a nice staff member regardless the day that I check in. The food is good as well as I have tried several items.
GGuest UserI dealt with Enrique and Renee and they were amazing so helpful and sweet. It was my first time in Oakland and they told me about all the amazing places to go see and vist. They were always making sure I was ok and if I needed anything. Definitely will return because of those two.
GGuest UserLas habitaciones impecables y muy cómodas. Recientemente remodelado.
JjasmineThe room is clean and tidy, very quiet, and the front desk service is super good! The buffet in the restaurant is delicious and there are many styles. It's very good, I will consider staying again next time.
ZZHUOBooked in a two-bedroom apartment suite, there are two rooms, each with a double bed and bathroom, a kitchen and living room in the middle, a microwave oven with a microwave oven, and a cup, plate and dishware. Very suitable for family living. There is a big bird on the tree outside the small balcony. There are many yachts in the small bay. Walking along the front road to the right, there is a German restaurant, German sausage and beer taste really good. The hotel's free breakfast is OK. Three kinds of sausages are eaten a day. One day there are bacon patties sausages, milk cereals, homemade waffles, and several kinds of bread jams. Originally, I wanted to live in San Francisco, but I said that the roads in the city are relatively ups and downs, the one-way line is complicated, and the parking cost is high. So I live in Auckland. It is convenient to drive the Auckland Bridge to San Francisco for two consecutive days. I found a Guilin rice noodle shop nearby in the evening, and it tastes so good! ! !
DDavidtheshelteredI don't travel much but when I do I feel a bit uncomfortable in the big fancy new hotels. I don't like spending the money on fancy nor do I like the feel of new hotels. I like clean, cheap, unique, and good location. The Washington Inn offers all those things. I am into sustainability and extending the life of a building (It was built in 1913) is a very sustainable practice that I will always support. Air conditioning was good but I could also open the window as it was nice weather. This is a nice option. A bit loud with early morning garbage hauling but I am OK with that. I would stay here every time I am in Oakland. I am sure this is not the hotel for everyone but it worked for me.
