Grand Universe Lucca, Autograph Collection

Lucca Centro Storico
My wife and I stayed in the Grand Universe Lucca several times over the past four years, and every time the experience was consistently exceptional. Located in the walled part of the city that's a ten-minute walk to the train station, The Grand Universe is beautifully furnished and decorated, and it includes the most comfortable beds, large flat-screen TVs, and wonderfully appointed bathrooms with huge showers. The staff is absolutely amazing. Georges is the regional manager, and he always goes out of his way to welcome us upon our arrival. Antonia is the on-site manager, and she ensures a wonderful stay for every guest and makes us feel like we're family. Vanessa is her assistant, and she is a consistently bubbly, happy and welcoming host who makes everyone feel appreciated. Ricardo always goes out of his way to greet us and welcome us back, and his kindness and accommodating manner are outstanding. The young ladies who staff the restaurant during breakfast are truly exceptional and kind. My wife and I have stayed in dozens of beautiful hotels throughout Tuscany over the past twelve years and the Grand Universe Lucca is by far one of our favorites. We absolutely love staying there, and that's a direct reflection on the management and staff. The Grand Universe Lucca isn't ”just a hotel,” it's our home away from home in the beautiful walled City of Lucca!

We stayed at this place for the 2nd time (first time was right before the pandemic) and I should say that the hotel successfully keeps up to its standards. Rooms are clean and spacious, with almost everything you may need (except the iron). The SPA area is fine, but better go there around noon before the new wave of the guests arrives. Breakfasts are superb with a wide choice of hot dishes, pastry and drinks. That is really a great choice for Italy I'd say (sorry, Italy))) The hotel territory is well kept. The sandy beach is right across the road. The only minor thing which was a bit disturbing was the lack of toiletries. Nail kits, sewing kits and other things used to be available without any requests. Now you get the very basics and have to call if you need some extra. That's absolutely fine but.. feels like ”let's cut the cost” sign :) But anyway, I loved the stay and will def be back some time.

The folks who run the place are pleasant, however the place is unfit for very hot summer days because it does not have HVAC or ventilation. They are honest in their description of the facility, but with no bug screens and scorching temperatures, not a place were to rest after a long journey. They were kind enough to help us find another place in nearby Lucca though. They even offered an unquantified future discount on a new direct booking. I asked how much, but they would not say. A little bit off the beaten path with missing signage toward the very end. Simple, but surely restful during the cooler months. Slightly shabby, but that adds to the charm. There was a loose dog on the premises, so if you are traveling with a dog pay attention. Unpaved parking. I cannot tell you much about the rooms because, even if prepaid and not refundable, we went to a better hotel in Lucca. They can use the money to improve the property and feed ***********. Who knows, you might be luckier or, as some reviewer said, may end up in the room above the boiler and have a sleepless night. Traveling in Italy is always an adventure! I hope that, in the future, the owners will outfit at least some of the rooms with HVAC because the setting is very nice.

We stayed on the 4th floor in the superior suite with the balcony and were very impressed with it. The apartment was spacious and spotlessly clean. We found the bed really comfortable and the amenities were all there. We had our baby with us and they had left a kids box with some shower gel and colouring in etc which was a really thoughtful extra- thank you! The receptionists were brilliant- really friendly and gave great recommendations too (thank you!). The apartments are situated about a 10/15 minutes walk to the train station and 2 minutes to the promenade so very well located. There’s a few things I would recommend to the hotel which would make it even better: A lamp in the living room would be great for evenings. Shelving in the shower for somewhere for your shampoo etc. A mirror at the dressing table. Black out blind is needed for the small window. Hair dryer - I don’t know who invented hair dryers that a button needs held whilst using them, but they’re an absolute pain! The power in the one in the apartment was good, however it’s rubbish having to hold the button. Thanks for a brilliant stay!
Hotel Paris

Hotel front beach, does not offer full pension. Internal parking. Besides hotel service, it has also common apartments that are cleaned daily as hotel service. Having enjoyed this type of structure, I must say that the app was great with two rooms, a double room + bedroom and a day room with kitchen and bed sofa, a large terrace where the sea was also seen. The kitchen had few old and destroyed stoves, and the anti-adhesive sticks were stripped (which were not even washed), lack of washing stoves, bathroom with a sliding door that was not closed, old and destroyed bed sofa.

We recently stayed here with family. The hotel staff were all so friendly and helpful and very welcoming when we arrived too! The hotel and rooms were very clean. The breakfast was excellent with a great selection. The small pool was a great place to relax each day after a lot of walking or cycling on bikes we rented from the hotel. We would definitely recommend and can’t wait to stay here again!
