Sealofts on the Beach

Avoid UNIT 39! The owner of Unit 39 (who does not live on the island) agreed to lease me her unit for one year. 15 hours before I was set to move in--I was *in St. Kitts* ready to move--the owner reneged our lease because "she suddenly changed her mind after talking to a friend" and she "now wants $600USD more per month." She did not honor our agreement and exposed herself to be heartless and unscrupulous, as I was left without accommodation for the very next day and, thus, left St. Kitts and flew home, losing a job opportunity. She did not even have the basic human decency to email me and apologize for not honoring her word at the very last minute. Unit 39 is 3 level has an extremely steep and narrow spiral staircase. You will not be able to carry large or heavy suitcases upstairs. Tough for elderly or disabled visitors, slippery after the pool or if intoxicated. There is no beach view from Unit 39. Uncomfortable (couldn't even nap) rattan living room furniture in bright neon colors with "tropical iguana" decor. But as mentioned, the owner of #39 cancelled our least 18 hrs before I was due to move in. In the main bedroom, there is a large high window with no shade/curtain. All afternoon, the sun blares through it directly onto the bed pillows, so napping is impossible there, too. If you must stay at SeaLofts, choose anyone besides #39. It was the ONLY one available when I needed to rent. I had no choice and the owner still shafted me and left me on the street. I'm sure there are many nice owners within the SeaLofts community. Rent from them, not #39 (which, by the way: Wifi did not work, TV was too fuzzy to watch, and it is extremely tackily decorated, but I could ignore those superficial things). The on-site property manager was profusely apologetic and could not believe what the owner did to me.

We stayed in Sealofts 37, each unit is independently owned so I can’t speak for other units, I experienced excellent responsive communication with owner (Sue) and the local manager (Joyce) before and during the stay. Check in was smooth, ample parking, easy to find. Although the Sealofts were built in the 80s unit 37 has been well maintained and has up to date TV, A/C, appliances, Wi-Fi, dishes and cookware. The unit features 110v electric service so no need to bring a converter for US electrical and electronic devices. The photos featured on ******* were taken inside our unit so what you see is where you will be staying. My daughters slept on the 3rd floor and enjoyed having a private balcony. There was plenty of room for this family of 4 including two teens. Bathroom on the second floor was up to date. We used the washer and dryer located at ground level, which also had the second bathroom, this was convenient to use if needed while swimming in the pool without having to go up stairs dripping wet. The pool was awesome and close by (about 100 feet) from our door, clean with excellent water quality. Perfect temperature about 75F so it felt cool in the heat of the day and a little warmer then the night air. The rest of the grounds and common areas were well maintained as well. The location was perfect with good dining, grocery stores, taxi stand etc all a short walk away. The beach in front of Sealofts was washed out but there are many wonderful beaches a short drive or taxi ride away, and a couple you can even walk to Mariott or Timothy Beach.

Well equipped apartment, good Wi Fi, mosquito screens and air conditioning if needed. Clean and organised. Very large fridge perfect for making ice and keeping the beers and ice cream cool. Plenty of beach towels, bedding and a washing machine which we used and a dryer. Full sized cooker and a shared BBQ on site. You can buy charcoal from the local supermarket, which is well stocked for salads and drinks. My son used the dried palm leaves and bark to start the BBQ. The apartment we stayed at had circular stairs which could be awkward and there was one bedroom and the master was in the loft so little privacy from the living area. UK visitors should bring UK to US converters. We made daily use of the pool and as it was low season there was only one other couple staying. We felt like millionaires having the pool to ourselves. We didn't swim in the sea at Sealofts as it was on the Atlantic side. There was too much seaweed and the waves were about 1.5m high. Frigate Bay is 10 minutes walk away and has a nice sandy beach. It is on the Carribean side and so is sheltered. You can hire chairs and umbrellas from the bars along the *****. Joyce Isaac from Carribean Property Realty had arranged for fruit and some drinks on the fridge on our arrival. She also helped arrange daytrips and our airport transfer with Dennis Levine who also took us on a tour of the island to include a visit to Brimstone Hill Fortress which I highly recommended but there is an extra charge for entry. He also arranged our half day tour of Nevis with Dale. He would point out the various edible fruits growing in the hotel gardens and tell you the difference between a goat and sheep. I would recommend staying at Sealofts during low season if you value your independence and value a peaceful holiday. Joyce is fantastic and is always able to help with queries and even following up our complaint when we were not provided the correct meal at the local chicken takeaway. We avoided heavy rain and hurricanes during our visit, which helps with the rose tinted review and it was too windy for mosquitoes.
