The experience at a Christmas Day dinner was very disappointing. Despite booking well in advance and paying a deposit, there were several issues. The balance was requested last-minute, along with a 33% service charge marked as “discretionary.” There was no notable service so this was not paid upfront. Upon arrival, as a couple we were seated at a cramped table at the top of the stairs leading to the facilities it had a wobbly surface, this was fixed by one of the staff. The food was the flavoursome, starters could have been presented better, eg. goats cheese with a cracker perhaps? The staff seemed a little inexperienced and some lacked customer service skills. Although we also ordered wine and cocktails, the 33% service charge was applied to the entire bill, not just the additional costs, which felt excessive for the experience. Despite these issues, we paid to avoid confrontation, but overall, the experience we feel did not offer good value for money.
