Vivanta Meghalaya Shillong

We spent 4 wonderful days at the Vivanta Meghalaya, Shillong earlier this month. It was a last minute trip & I didn't have a chance to research the property before we travelled there. When we first arrived, I wasn't very impressed by the property. At first glance, it felt rather compact &  uninspired. Located as it is in the Police Bazaar area, the views are not the best but it makes for the easiest access to shops, restaurants & cafes as well as parks like Wards Lake (which, due to the daily traffic jams in Shillong, is a huge plus). The room we stayed in was spacious, comfortable & spotlessly clean as one would expect from a Taj property. The bathrooms were compact but well designed with enough storage space. The heart of the hotel is its one all day dining restaurant & a bar set off to the side. All meals are taken here but the monotony of eating in the same space is offset by the quality of food served & the service. In addition to breakfast, we had a couple of meals here & they were impeccable. But what really lifts the property to another level is the staff. When you add genuine warmth, friendliness & service with a smile to the Taj training, the experience goes from excellent to exceptional. We would love to come back to Shillong & stay at the Vivanta Meghalaya, hopefully very soon in the future.

Was celebrating my 10th anniversary and tried contacting the hotel on the number given on the TATA NEU app from where I had made the booking but it kept saying the number was invalid. Three things that made my experience memorable were: 1. Being able to modify my booking on the day of check-in to the following day as my daughter fell sick en-route and we had to make a pit stop at a nearby hotel for the night. 2. The lady who checked us in was extremely helpful. Not only did she help me with the room decorations and a delicious cake but also asked around for good places to shop. 3. Chep Ankit from Uttarakhand who made Aloo paranthas which instantly reminded us of home accompanied with the 'egg benedict' which came close to this signature dish from the Marriott hotels.
