It's a Relais & Châteaux hotel, but this was the only room available when I made the reservation. I didn't expect it to be so small. If you can afford it, book a larger one. It's comfortable to stay in and there's a Michelin restaurant downstairs.

Gilpin Hotel & Spa is a great choice because the staff and service are excellent. The two restaurants, especially Source, are a treat, rooms are well-equipped, breakfasts brilliantly executed. We were made to feel welcome, special but also at home for our stay.

Just back from overnight stay at Gilpin to celebrate our anniversary. The check in was prompt and friendly, the master bedroom in the main hotel stunning and spacious and spotless, luxury gowns and toiletries. Had booked Spice pan Asian for the evening (chefs table) and it was excellent. All the staff were so friendly and smiley and the chefs made our evening so special. The food was simply delicious and very good value. Located so close to Lake Windermere and the beauty of the Lake District. Thank you Gilpin!!!!

We have stayed at the Gilpin Hotel and Spa 3 times over the past 3 years. The previous 2 stays were great, and service was impeccable. This time was different and we left dissatisfied, an not wanting to return. The service in general is extremely slow, and in some circumstances non-existent, whether this is down to lack of staff, or business as usual I'm unsure. It was extremely slow getting served in the bar, however, the drinks were well made. We ordered room service which did not arrive, so my wife had to re-order which was frustrating. Breakfast was extremely disappointing. On the first morning we had to wait five minutes to be shown to a table, then 20 minutes before being asked if wanted tea or coffee, then another 15 minutes for our breakfast order which came 30 minutes later, and was cold. I had to ask for another piece of black pudding as it was under cooked. The second morning was a similar experience, however, we received a hot breakfast which was nice. We found the food in Gilpin Spice very average, we we did not expect having eaten there before. We only enjoyed 2 dishes, the Asian Chicken, and the Banana Mousse desert. the rest was below what I'd expect for the prices you pay. I have to say that the majority of staff were lovely, and very apologetic when we complained, or reminded them of an order. We're not sure whether this is a hangover from Covid, or whether standards have dropped, however, when you're paying the best part of £2000 for a 2 night stay we expect a lot more. The Gilpin's competition, The Linthwaite Hotel, and Langdale Chase for outclass and are better value for money at this point.

I had wanted to stay at the Gilpin for a while so chose to celebrate a special milestone birthday here. My first impression before I arrived was that the communication and organisation was not great. I had phoned back after Gilpin contacted me the week before and left the hotel a voicemail. My call was never returned and my husband also tried to phone on another occasion but was no answer. We had informed on the booking notes that this was a special milestone birthday. We had booked Gilpin spice rather than source and my husband and I both have allergies and felt it would be better to eat at the restaurant where there is not a set tasting menu due to our dietary requirements. On booking comments, I had noted our allergies and that this was a special birthday. We were disappointed that they didn’t seem to be aware of both the allergies or the milestone birthday when we arrived. This did not put us at ease regarding our allergies. We mentioned this at the dinner. The staff did say happy birthday but I would have appreciated a small gesture such as writing on the desert for an acknowledgment that this was a special dinner. This could have made a difference for a better experience as the meal was average. I did get a card wishing me a happy birthday from the hotel a few hours after we checked in. The staff are generally friendly and we loved the room. I wish we chose elsewhere to stay for my special birthday as when we have celebrated milestone events in other hotels, they have provided a small gesture to make the event feel special. I was left disappointed and wish I had booked elsewhere.

We were lucky enough to stay in the spa suite ‘Crake’. From our arrival to our departure we were made to feel so special. It was genuinely the nicest room I’ve ever seen both in person and online! I cannot recommend this place enough. I had planned to propose to my girlfriend on a walk in the lakes but the room was that nice I thought it can’t get any better than this I’m doing it here. For anyone looking for a weekend getaway I would highly recommend and although I know the spa suites are expensive- they’re worth every penny. Oh and she said yes hahahah.
