MM291451****I didn't encounter a Chinese-speaking receptionist, but I could still communicate with them. Dinner is served at 5 PM and 7 PM, a buffet with 90 minutes allotted. The best dish was the oyster rice; the oysters were of good quality, and you were given a small pot to cook them yourself – a great DIY experience. The rest was just average buffet quality, edible, though the beef tongue was decent. Breakfast is served at 7 AM and 8 AM, with 60 minutes allotted. I recommended the seafood donburi, yogurt, and milk – so delicious! The best part was the bar behind the lobby, with unlimited drinks. The room was large, and I think I was upgraded. The problem was the air conditioning; you could only adjust the level, not the temperature. However, I didn't need to turn it on when I arrived, so I didn't try it. There's a Lawson convenience store near the bus stop, and Leilei Gorge in the other direction, but I didn't go there.

GGuest UserJust a few minutes' walk from Hirose-dori subway station, the hotel's location is extremely convenient, surrounded by numerous dining options. Having a convenience store on the ground floor is also a reassuring plus.
We stayed in a moderate non-smoking room for two. While the queen-sized bed was comfortable, it felt a bit cramped for two, though it would likely feel quite spacious for a solo traveler. The mattress firmness was just right, and the air purifier was a welcome amenity.
The bath area was nicely separated from the toilet, preventing any concerns about water splashing out, and the rain shower was a pleasant feature.
The front desk staff were friendly and left a positive impression.
One minor point is that the air conditioning throughout the hotel, including the lobby and hallways, felt a bit too strong. The complimentary coffee service in the lobby was a nice touch, but it was a shame that it couldn't be taken back to the room.
Overall, it's a clean hotel with excellent service, and we left feeling very satisfied.

MM267895****While the room itself was compact, the bathroom and toilet area felt relatively spacious. The shower and bathtub were combined in one area, with the toilet in a separate, adjacent room, which was very convenient. Upon check-in, the front desk offered a selection of bath salts, with a variety of scents to choose from. Controls for lights, air conditioning, and even requesting room cleaning were all handled via a bedside touchscreen, which was simple and intuitive to operate. Breakfast was also fantastic! It featured many local specialties from Miyagi Prefecture, and I really enjoyed putting together my own 'Date Breakfast' each morning. We were so exhausted from sightseeing every day that I didn't get many chances to photograph the hotel, only the breakfast.

MM262711****The hotel is super close to Sendai Station, making transportation very convenient. It's also near Tohoku University, Sendai Asaichi (morning market), observation decks, and 7-Eleven.
The hotel service is excellent; check-in and check-out were quick and easy.
The rooms are well-equipped, clean, and tidy, with water and toiletries provided. When leaving, I noticed in the reception area that the hotel has won many awards. The breakfast buffet isn't huge, but the variety is decent, typically Japanese. They even have Sendai's famous Zunda Shake, so no need to go all the way to the station to buy one! Whether for leisure or business, it's a solid, comfortable stay without any real drawbacks.
On the day before I left Japan, there was a tsunami and earthquake. I was in such a panic late at night that I ran down to the lobby in my room slippers to consult with the manager. I apologize for that; please forgive me. I later realized that the staff on duty in the lobby were incredibly polite, warm, and helpful in their replies, and they all remained very calm.

GGuest UserHotel Monterey is centrally located just outside the Sendai Station and is easily seen after you exit the station. The staff was very courteous and helpful at the time of check in. Language could be an issue but is easily manageable. I was offered a single room in a lower floor and on my request for a room on the higher floor, without any hesitation I was allotted a double room on the higher floor.
The ambience of the restaurant for breakfast was great and the variety of food served catered to Japanese and western. The breakfast was delicious.
I had to extend my stay and this was also done seamlessly without any issues.
Overall a great hotel centrally located with plenty of shopping around. If I come to Sendai again, I will return to Hotel Monterey if I visit Sendai again.

HHansycUnexpectedly grand hotel, especially when you first walk in the front entrance. Very traditional hotel with great service, remember to book your free transport to and from the Sendai train station. The hot spring experience is as expected - comfortable, cozy, clean and relaxing. Highly recommended. The included Dinner and breakfast buffets are great and aside from the typical western food, it served up some local delicacies which were really nice and authentic. Highly recommended place for anyone looking at a day or two to unwind and relax.

MM29885****Overall, the stay was decent. The hotel's location wasn't as close to Sendai Station as I had expected; it's not directly adjacent. The service staff were polite, but their attention to detail seemed lacking. We booked for two adults and one child, and this was confirmed during check-in. Yet, only two pillows were provided in the room. By the time we realized, it was too late to ask for more, so we simply made do.
Other hotels generally handle things better; for instance, they often place stored luggage in the room prior to guest arrival. While some hotels count 12-year-olds as adults and provide full amenities for three, even if a child isn't officially counted in the guest number, non-chargeable items like extra pillows are usually provided in appropriate quantities.
On the positive side, breakfast exceeded our expectations significantly. We had read reviews suggesting it wasn't great, so perhaps our low expectations made us find it quite satisfactory.
One more unsatisfactory detail: upon entering our room, we found the toilet wasn't very clean. I had to clean it myself before using it, and I hope the housekeeping staff can improve in this area. There's a clear gap when compared to the Hotel Metropolitan in Morioka. If I return to Sendai, I might try the Hotel Metropolitan Sendai East to see if there's a difference, not least because its location is closer to Sendai Station.
Overall, it was a decent stay, but there's certainly room for improvement.

LLIANGLlANGThe vending machine doesn't accept new banknotes yet, so I had to ask the cleaning lady for old ones. Every time I go to do laundry, I have to walk through the lobby, basically shamelessly in my slippers and pajamas. I wish the laundry room was on the second floor. The currency exchange machine should be near the laundry room, but I couldn't find it and frankly, I was too lazy to look (=ＴェＴ=). I also couldn't find a dry cleaning bag in the room; it would be great if one could be provided for every guest.
