First the positives Great location, town is walkable and it's not too far up the hill, shower was great, toilet was clean Negatives Everywhere needs re-decorating, room is dated but large, but that's ok for a few nights. Breakfast was in Appleby's and is ok, choice of full English, pancakes, with hel[p yourself tea, coffee, cereal and toast. Reception staff, weren't rude just indifferent, key thrown on the counter and carried on a conversation with another member of staff about a night out when checking out, no thank you Music is loud until 11 but didn't bother us too much Car park is hit and miss first come first serve but there is a public car park next door a few hundred meters. All in all ok but wouldn't stay again

Heritage hotel review BEWARE SOLO FEMALE TRAVELLERS I have never given a negative hotel review in my 30 years of travelling. I feel it is necessary to warn potential solo female travellers of my experience at this hotel. I was having a nap in my room and had placed the do not disturb sign on my door. There was a knock on my door from the domestic staff informing me who they were. Before I could open the door three domestic staff entered my room. I was informed that they were instructed by the owner to ‘check my room…and later to make sure I was happy with my room’. The domestic staff proceeded to inspect my room. This is in no way a criticism of the domestic staff who work tirelessly. The domestic staff were very apologetic and explained that they were instructed by the owner to inspect my room. When I stay at hotels I usually place the do not disturb sign on my door to save the domestic staff from having to clean my room everyday. I have been informed by other hotels that this is the procedure if I don’t want my room cleaned. When I expressed my concern regarding the intrusion and lack of concern for the protection of my privacy I was informed that the staff had to check the rooms to ensure people weren’t inviting friends over or having parties? Apparently the owner has directed the staff to remove all the do not disturb signs from all the rooms in the hotel as this is now their policy to enter rooms without permission. Regarding the room and breakfast. The shower was full of mould and the shower recess had hairs in the drain hole. The walls and carpets had permanent stains and scuff marks. One of the new towels had a brown stain on it. The bed was so hard and lump.y The plates and cutlery at breakfast were dirty. Very loud parties on the weekend in the bar downstairs. Floors creaky with every step heard from room above, feels like the floors will collapse. Cracks on the walls and ceiling. Paper thin walls, I could hear everything people were saying and doing in the room next to me. Generally noisey with doors banging in the early hours of the morning. Would definitely not recommend this hotel especially to solo female travellers. Susan

Very tired room with a tiny double bed and an awful chemical cleaning smell. Some of the PowerPoints didn’t work and the shower was barely warm. The worst part however was the food at the bar it was inedible. We order ribs and the homemade chilli con carne both were very poor unfortunately. The breakfast wasnt any better.

Poor hotel. Quiteold, worn and grubby. Hairs in bathroom. Build up of limeade and stains. Lights are very dim. Lots of steps. Very low grade breakfast. What they call Orange juice is an absolute trade misdescription. Receptionist was nice and helpful. Other staff really poor.

Looks good from the outside and the room looked nice on entering. Only 1 socket in the room and that was an extension lead, none by the bed. The room was very dated and the bathroom had a bit of mould on the ceiling, the radiator was very rusty. The bar had a good selection of drinks and meals, was too crowded on the second night because of a very loud band and loads of people so we went out. The breakfast was just basic and ok, only orange juice on 2 out of 3 mornings, no alternative if you don't like it. Was the most uncomfortable bed ever, a huge dip in the middle so we were both woken up numerous times throughout the night.

Walls of room were so thin you could hear everything from surrounding rooms. Pool is in a badly dated and damaged state. Pool availability very limited. Breakfast options limited. Parking spaces very small. Hotel admin slack, they took my payment twice. Felt like a pub not a hotel.

This is one of the worst hotels I have ever stayed at and will not be returning. Duration - 3 nights General 1. There are too few parking spaces all nights I had to park away from the hotel in a public car park then bring my car back after 11pm. 2. The building is very delapidated and requires a huge investment. Room - Here is a list of faults:- 1. The rooms are tired, in need of renovation, badly designed and poor bed matress 2. The TV was tiny but that did not matter as there was no way of viewing it from my bed and there are not seats in the room. 3. The shower only dispensed cold water. 4. The room was represively hot with not ventilation. 5. The room was below the bar terraceSupposedly a quiet room) but the noise from the terrace did not abate until 11:30 and on a Saturday eveing 1:30am so not good sleep. Food. The included breakfast consisted of poor quality products, The boxed cereal was the best of a poor menu only becase it came in a sealed box. All heated food was tasteles and sometimes cold. Staff The staff were miserable and not customer centric Overall 0/10, the real Fawlty Towers of Torquay

Great location BUT ... one of our meals at dinner was inedible so was returned for a refund. Didn't have another dinner there. Also, I think the dishwasher was broken, as at breakfast, at least 4 forks and 3 knives still had food on them and my friend had to use a knapkin for a plate. Pool not open all the time AND they charge you to use it for an hour. WON'T be returning!
