The former palace, now the hotel, exudes a leisurely atmosphere from the inside out. The hotel is located in the old town of Utrecht. It is very convenient to go everywhere. There are ample parking spaces. It is worth staying and experiencing.

Oh I wanted to love my time at the Karl V….I stayed there last March and loved it, couldn’t wait to return for New Years as Utrecht and this hotel are beautiful. What made it a disaster was the brasserie New Years dinner. We were called a day before and thought what a good idea for New Years. Wrong. It was a dismal and (literal) stomach churning experience that left an extreme distaste (again literally). We had to leave half way through from feeling so unwell. And had to book an extra night to recover. When I told the front desk they promised to relay and “make good”. But nothing. Still charged almost 400euro for food poisoning. While I understand this is not about the room, it is about the service, the amenities and overall - THE SAFETY of their guests. A huge fail for Karl V.

This is surely the best hotel in Utrecht. The site is very quirky with multiple buildings. I overheard someone saying it used to be a military hospital! Was there for 2 nights. On the first day a few things weren’t as expected, but my better half spoke to one of the managers and this turned in to one of the best hotel experiences I’ve ever had. They couldn’t do enough for us. They even found out where we were having dinner on Friday night, called them and paid our bar bill. Who does that?? I’ve never seen that before. Their bar is cozy with a fire, the restaurants were very busy and we didn’t book, so didn’t get to try the food, but it looked amazing from what I could see. The staff are very very good; exactly what you would expect from a 5 star, but they went above and beyond for us, all over a tiny issue

Wat een geweldige ervaring! Ons verblijf in het vijfsterrenhotel Karel V was werkelijk fantastisch. We hebben geslapen in het historische gebouw, en vanaf het moment dat je binnenkomt, voel je je echt een royal. De charme van de authentieke omgeving gecombineerd met moderne luxe is ongeëvenaard. Het eten in de brasserie “Goeie Louisa” maakte het helemaal af. De gerechten waren heerlijk, verfijnd en met veel aandacht bereid. Complimenten aan de chef! Onze aanleiding voor dit verblijf was een bezoek aan de musical Moulin Rouge, en dankzij het comfort van Hotel Karel V werd onze trip een onvergetelijke ervaring. Dit hotel is een absolute aanrader voor wie op zoek is naar luxe, historie en topservice. Wij komen zeker terug!

An historic hotel a short walk from the centre of town. Rooms are large, restaurants were busy because of events being held at the hotel. You really feel like your are in an historic building, which is a nice change from the normal. Would recommend
