Just steps away from Taj Ganges, nestled amidst 30 acres of lush greenery is the beautiful Taj Nadesar Palace. I always used to go for walk in the palace gardens during my stay at Taj Ganges and was intrigued by the silent grandeur of this spectacular building. However , I had never had the opportunity to experience the hospitality of this little gem. I decided to change that and considering I have my own place in Benares , requested fo have a dinner instead at the Taj Nadesar palace ( despite not being a guest at the hotel), The booking was coordinated promptly and as soon as I stepped into the palace , it was an atmosphere decadent with rich history , elegant decor and umpteen radiance. We were welcomed warmly and seated at the table of our choosing ( they were available of course ) . The staff was brilliant and tended to our requests promptly and effectively. we decided to go for vegetarian thali and the chef came out to greet us and take our order , offering his suggestions where needed and helping us decide on a wonderful culinary delight for the evening. The wait was around 30 mins but In the midst we were entertained by the musicians on sitar and tabla, who played our thumris , Dadra , bhajans adding to the atmosphere. The food was of course delicious and was a delight to savour. The flavours were balanced and was a burst of aromatic spices created to satisfy everyone’s culinary taste buds. Only thing I would request for next time is - keep the badam halwa in winter :) not that the rasmalai wasn’t good. Special shout goes to Harsh Rawat. Now I came across Harsh few years ago when i was staying at Ganges. He had since moved on to the palace , however the excellent care he took of us back in the day stayed with us. So it was great to see him again of course. And it was no surprise that he came to welcome us again and demonstrated the excellent personal touch he is able to offer to the guest to make them feel at home. He not only took personal care of our meal topped off with meetha paan which had to be procured :) but also kindly showed us around the palace and regaled us with history of the palace. It was nice gesture on his behalf to step outside on a winter night to see us off and gift us a tiny shiva kings souvenir , bringing evening to a wonderful close. It was clear to us that he embodies the values and feelings of “Tajness” . This is the level of excellent care we expect from Taj group and hence it is always wonderful to be a guest at Taj. Overall it was a great evening and I shall be back again. Hopefully this time tor a staycation. Thanks, Rohan Pandey
