The Hillcrest Hotel

Widnes|1.22km from St Luke's Church
We was staying at this hotel for a family wedding, we were greeted at reception by the receptionist Mandy whose approach was lovely , roo. Was basic but nice enough for 1 stay, Only real downfall was no aircon or fan in the room, extremely hot, we were able to leave lovely juliet windows open so managed a little breeze coming into the room. We were told that the bar was open to residents till 1am , on arrival back at 11pm we were met by the bar manager Nigel who told us the bar was closed as they had no gas, bearing in mind there were customers in the bar, he then proceeded to tell us after we challenged him that we could have bottles , I asked for 2 Baileys nightcap and was told he would get them in 10 minutes, 20 minute's passed and still no drinks, his attitude was appalling and very condescending, no customer service skills at all. Next morning spoke with the same lovely receptionist who listened to our complaint as it appeared said barman served others in our party after we had retired Breakfast we were greeted by Cheryl who made our breakfast experience really good, nothing was to much trouble, very attentive and on the whole a really decent breakfast experience, I eould of rated this whole experience a lot less if it hadn't been for the receptionist and breakfast room staff. Nigel needs to go on a customer services training course and learn how to approach customers especially as customers pay his qage

LOCATION: We were to board a cruise ship from Liverpool around midday. Living in the south of England, we decided to drive up and stop over the night before. This proved to be a very good choice - plenty of free parking spaces, shops nearby and cheaper and much less busy than central Liverpool, about half an hour away. ACCOMMODATION: Everything clean and well-kept. Room had a ”wet-room” style shower, ideal for my disabled wife. I also appreciated the on-line booking system, which enabled room selection to this level of detail. Staff very friendly and helpful with a couple of particular requests. Room had plenty of light in the places where required, including a desk. Suitable for business travellers. MEALS: Available in the bar nearby. Well satisfied with the choice and general standard. SUMMING UP: I would class this type of accommodation as a lodge rather than a full-blown hotel. It served all our needs well. Judging on this basis, I would happily join the majority that give this a five-star rating.

Really lovely reception area, staff were great during book in, very helpful and friendly. Room was clean, spacious and warm. Just what we wanted for our one night stay. Didn't visit the bar or restaurant as was with my 12 year old Son but the menu looked excellent and the bar area looked pleasant. Plenty of nice flat car parking spaces. Would definitely visit again!
