The location of Loop on Leith strikes a near-perfect balance. Although the hotel sits close to the lively Lebuh Chulia, it is cleverly tucked away along Leith Street. Chulia Street is a hub for backpackers and nightlife, so evenings can get noisy. By setting itself slightly inward, Loop on Leith neatly avoids the brunt of street noise, while still placing you just a four-minute walk from the iconic Blue Mansion (Cheong Fatt Tze Mansion), where you can easily begin your street food adventure. Its positioning works as an ideal base for urban exploration. Head north and you’ll find the refined charm of the heritage district; head south and you step straight into the vibrant pulse of the city center. The hotel embraces an Urban Chic concept, deliberately doing away with traditional heavy carpeting—a smart choice in a tropical climate, as it helps reduce mustiness and allergens. Instead, modern hard flooring and bright lighting create a space that feels noticeably fresher and cleaner, both visually and physically, compared to older Peranakan-style hotels in the same price range. Rooms here tend to be on the smaller side. For two guests traveling with large luggage, the space can feel a bit tight. It’s best suited for travelers who spend most of their day বাইরে exploring and simply want a comfortable place to rest at night—think light packers or efficiency-focused “urban explorers.” At roughly RM250 per night, Loop on Leith delivers a boutique-like aesthetic and standardized service at a budget hotel price point. The value-for-money and overall sense of comfort are impressive. It lacks the heavy, sometimes oppressive atmosphere of heritage buildings, and also avoids the blandness of chain hotels. This makes it especially appealing to young couples, solo travelers, or business visitors. If you’re looking for a spacious executive suite, this may not be the right choice. But if your priorities are efficiency, cleanliness, and stepping straight into great food and scenery the moment you walk out, it stands out as a smart option in George Town’s mid-range market. For an even better stay, consider requesting a higher-floor room—it offers a slightly more open view and helps buffer early morning street noise from passing motorcycles.

The hotel is small but charming, and conveniently located for sightseeing. There's a large supermarket and a 7-Eleven nearby, making it easy to grab food. I arrived quite late on the first day, and the front desk staff, a local guy who didn't speak Chinese, was very patient and enthusiastic during check-in. The room doesn't provide toothbrushes, but they were quickly brought up when I asked. After checking out, I stored my luggage and went out. Halfway through my day, I realized I'd forgotten some jewelry. I immediately called the hotel, and they helped me find it. Luckily, the front desk attendant that day was a Chinese guy, so I could communicate without any issues during that urgent situation – I'm very grateful! The only downsides were finding some small flying insects in the room on the second night, and the slightly noticeable noise from modified motorcycles passing by outside. Overall, I highly recommend this place and would definitely stay here again on my next trip to Penang.

The hotel's location is excellent and easy to find, very close to all the attractions in the Old Town. The hotel decor is also very nice, and the front desk staff were warm and helpful. The facilities are all quite good, though they don't provide slippers and you have to ask the front desk for toiletries. Overall, a really great stay.

Nio Hotel Penang offers good value for money and is a reasonable choice for travellers looking for a clean and affordable stay. The hotel itself feels a bit dated, and the rooms are on the smaller side, but everything was kept very clean and well maintained during my visit. Amenities are fairly basic and minimal, with quality that reflects the budget-friendly pricing. One thing worth noting is that there is no television in the room, which may be a drawback for some guests expecting standard hotel entertainment options. During my stay, I encountered an issue with a faulty item in the room. However, the situation was handled well, with the manager personally reaching out and ensuring that the matter was resolved professionally. This level of attention and follow-up was appreciated and helped improve the overall experience. While the hotel does not offer many extras, it delivers the essentials well: a clean room, a comfortable stay, and responsive management. Overall, Nio Hotel Penang is a solid option for the price, particularly for travellers who prioritise cleanliness and value over luxury amenities.

My stay at Neo+ Hotel was very pleasant. The hotel's location is super convenient, with many restaurants and convenience stores nearby, and getting around is a breeze. There's even a bar right across the street, which is great if you want a drink or to hang out with friends in the evening, yet the room remained quite quiet and wasn't significantly disturbed by noise. The room was clean and comfortable, and the staff were friendly and helpful. Both check-in and check-out were smooth. Overall, it offers great value for money and is a highly recommended accommodation option.

Solo traveler (female), May Fri-Mon Check in was smooth; I reached slightly past 3pm and was giving my room after a quick check in process. Staff was polite There was knocking sound in the middle of the 1st night that lasted till morning. I reported this to Karthi. She promised to look into it and offered a change of room in the worse scenario. When i checked with the staffs in the evening, they mentioned the noise came from another room and they have spoken to the guest. I turned down the offer to change room as its too troublesome so the staffs promised they will come by if there was noise again. Thankfully no more noise. My late checkout request was also granted by Karthi. Very thankful for that! Room size is just enough for a solo traveler. It's clean. Water dispenser located at lift lobby is a bonus. The view was great! Location is pretty good too. I tried the massage at St Giles, very skillful. But environment wise is very basic, do not expect spa ambiance. Very happy with my stay. Staffs provided really good service!

GGuest UserThe location is good, but the hotel itself is quite basic and a bit dirty and messy. The fridge in our room was also broken. One of the front desk staff (who looked Chinese, but wasn't) was quite rude. The parking situation is a bit confusing. The day before yesterday, the front desk told us we only needed to pay RM5 once, and then parking would be free afterwards (we'd need to go to the front desk to wave off the charges). However, the next day, a different front desk staff member said it was ”RM5 for the first entry/exit each time.” So, we have no idea how they actually charge for parking; their policy is very confusing. It feels like none of the staff know what they're doing. And charging tourists RM5 for each entry/exit is quite unreasonable, isn't it? When you're on vacation, don't you go in and out of the hotel frequently? Do you really think charging RM5 every single time is reasonable? Charging once a day would be acceptable, but this seems like they're just desperate for money.

RRay Mak Hon KitWe stayed two nights at Summer Tree Hotel Penang during our trip to Penang. One of the main reasons I chose this hotel was its location — right in the heart of Georgetown near Komtar, which makes it very convenient for getting around. It also offers parking, which is a big plus in this area. Another reason was the late check-in option, as I was having dinner with a friend in Nibong Tebal, which is quite a distance away. The pricing was also reasonable, making it an attractive choice overall. Upon arrival, however, parking was already full. I had to park at a space right in front of the hotel where delivery trucks usually arrive in the morning. This made me slightly anxious, as I was worried I might be asked to move my car early the next day. The lobby is simple but modern, with a creative, slightly hipster and artistic vibe — almost like a small modern art space. There are vending machines offering snacks, drinks, and essentials for travelers. At the back, there are toilets and also a laundry area with washing machines. A small coffee corner and even an old-school arcade game machine add a nice nostalgic touch, which was a pleasant surprise. However, the room itself was quite disappointing. While the room is basic and small — which I don’t mind — the flooring under the carpet felt severely damaged. Walking on it felt uneven and almost “soft,” as if the ground beneath had deteriorated. It gave a very uncomfortable and unsettling feeling, possibly due to moisture or termite damage underneath. Another concern was the bathroom design. There is an elevated step at the entrance, which becomes a clear trip hazard. I actually tripped once when entering. Even after that, I had to be very cautious because the floor just outside the bathroom is extremely slippery. Every entry and exit required full attention. There is also no proper shelf or platform inside the shower area to place shampoo or shower gel. We had to repeatedly open and close the glass door just to access toiletries during showering, which was inconvenient. Only basic amenities like shower gel and liquid hand soap were provided. The room was also advertised with a decent view, but the window was covered with a mesh, and since we were on the first floor, there was very little to see. On the positive side, the water dispenser outside the room was very convenient. The next day, parking was still full, so we had to park at a private area nearby. Since it was raining, the walk back to the hotel was quite inconvenient as well. Overall, while the location and concept of the hotel are strong, the room condition and safety design issues need serious attention. I would strongly recommend replacing the carpet flooring with vinyl wood flooring for durability and hygiene. As for the bathroom layout, improvements may be limited due to structure, but safety enhancements like anti-slip flooring would make a big difference.

AAnonymous UserI did a lot of research before deciding on Hotel Sentral Seaview by the Beach. Most reviews weren’t favorable however I was willing to take a risk considering my last hotel was horrible. Overall, I was surprised and it has exceeded my expectations. Having said that my expectations were pretty low! Positives: - Rooms were clean. The hardware of the hotel has undergone some major wear and tear. However, the hotel and room has undergone a fresh coat of paint. There is a faint smell of paint, but that for me wasn’t a negative. - Initially in my room was facing the hotel next-door. On the same level I could see the security guards and the neighbor hotel walk back-and-forth. As a female guest, this made me feel super uncomfortable. I went downstairs and requested a room change. The response from the front desk was “Just close your curtains.” In the end I was changed to another room on the other side of the hotel facing the ocean. - The view! Wow. Seeing and hearing the waves from the beach.. all the stress falls away! Because I was given this room, I made the decision to rebook another 2 nights at the hotel! - Wi-Fi was strong. - Hardly anyone using the pool, which made it really peaceful and quiet. Water is cool and clean. On the first day I was there the hotel were doing maintenance and cleaning of the pool area. - The beach is quiet (not many people) - and quite clean. - Right in front of the hotel, few footsteps away is a huge food court with lots of variety of food. It’s fantastic. 10 min walk is Lotus Mall. - There is a bus stop outside. Take 101 to go to Batu Ferringhi Beach. - 200 m from the hotel is the Oceano Symphony cafe. Good food and drinks. - Breakfast - was basic but ok. - Staff are friendly and helpful! Overall, the positives outweighed the negatives. I can understand that this hotel may not be the standard of a lot of international guests. But for peace, little crowds and sounds of the waves, in a quiet spot on the Penang island it’s been great.

AAlfredo KThis is the best value backpacker hostel in Penang, and it even has a swimming pool! It's my top choice in Penang, especially since it's located in the heritage area of the city, making it super convenient to get around. There are also plenty of restaurants nearby. The room was clean, comfortable, and well maintained, providing a relaxing environment after a long day. Housekeeping did a good job, and the overall atmosphere of the hotel felt calm and welcoming. Superb location, close to so many well known eateries. Rapid bus is at hostel doorstep to commute to various places of interests. Capsule bed is enclosed by concrete wall and you wouldn't hear movements on the top bed. Air conditioning and hot showers are strong. There are many lounges to rest and relax and love the Peranakan ambience of the hostel. Staff are nice and helpful and love that the towels are of the reputable hotel quality and are changed once every 2 days. A bottle of drinking water given everyday by the housekeeper. The staff were courteous and professional, and check-in and check-out were smooth. Amenities were adequate and met expectations for a comfortable stay. The centerpiece of this hotel is a square Zen garden, with a rectangular open sky roof that lets rain in to nourish the plants indoors. This very much adds to the relaxing ambience of the place. One of the best places to hang out at this sizeable hotel is at the commons, where there are comfy leather couches, a TV, a fridge, a water dispenser, an ironing board and also worth mentioning a bookshelf filled with books and board games. It is open for all registered hotel guests to use, and is nicely equipped and furnished. Working shower with heater. Also, clean toilet. I recommended place to stay for solo travelers or with friends. I liked this hotel very much. If you stay for three days, the hotel provides laundry service. I would happily stay again Overall, it was a excellent experience, and I would consider staying here again in the future.
