🍾 Follow in the footsteps of Moët & Chandon: 3 days, 2 nights exploring the Champagne region and slowly soaking in the charm of its birthplace. When thinking of France, many people picture Paris, the Eiffel Tower, or the Louvre Museum. But if you're a wine lover or interested in the stories of world-renowned brands, there's another city I'd recommend visiting: Épernay, a small town in the Champagne region that's home to Moët & Chandon. This trip isn't about rushing to see landmarks, but rather a journey to slowly learn about the story and meticulous process that goes into making a bottle of champagne before it reaches our celebratory table. ⸻ ✈️ Day 1: Journey from Paris to the Champagne City Starting from Paris, a train ride of about 1.5 hours will take you to Épernay. Upon alighting from the station, the first thing you'll notice is the tranquility. The city isn't large, it's easy to walk around, and it's filled with classic French-style buildings. In the afternoon, I recommend strolling along Avenue de Champagne, the famous street lined with champagne houses on both sides. Many people may not know that beneath this street lies a champagne storage tunnel several kilometers long. And with hundreds of millions of champagne bottles aged there, it's considered one of the most valuable underground resources in the world. In the evening, find a good French restaurant and try pairing your dinner with a glass of champagne. The atmosphere is completely different from drinking at home. ⸻ 🥂 Day 2: The Highlight of the Trip – Following in the Footsteps of Moët & Chandon Today is the day many have been waiting for. It's recommended to book a Moët & Chandon tour in advance, as tours fill up quickly, especially during peak season. Upon entering, you'll see an old mansion before descending into an underground tunnel system over 28 kilometers long. The temperature below is pleasantly cool year-round because it's built on chalk rock, ideal for champagne aging. The guide will explain the history of its founding in 1743, the production and aging processes, and the story of Dom Pérignon, a name familiar to many in the champagne world. At the end of the tour, you'll get to taste champagne. Whether it's Brut Impérial or Rosé Impérial, it's a great opportunity to sample them at the actual production site. The atmosphere makes that drink feel incredibly special. In the afternoon, you can also visit other champagne houses like Perrier-Jouët or Pol Roger, as they are not far away. ⸻ 🍇 Day 3: Explore Reims before returning to Paris Before heading back, consider visiting Reims, which is only about half an hour away. This city is a major center of the Champagne region and is home to the Notre-Dame de Reims Cathedral, where many French kings have been crowned. In addition to historical sites, Reims is also home to several famous champagne houses such as Veuve Clicquot, Taittinger, and Ruinart. If you have time, try visiting one of them to see that even though they are in the same region, each house has its own unique character and story. In the afternoon, take the train back to Paris, ending your trip on a relaxing note. ⸻ 🍾 Why is this trip worth going on? Many people may see Épernay as just a small town with a champagne factory. But once you actually walk around, you'll realize the whole city is like a living museum. Every building, every tunnel, every vineyard has a story passed down for hundreds of years. Seeing the birthplace of world-class champagne makes every glass you drink afterward more meaningful. ⸻ ✨ In summary: If you have 3 days in France and want to try something different from big cities, experience a slower pace of life in the Champagne region, this trip is well worth it.
