Baengnyeongdo: A Korean Island Shrouded in Legend and Memory — traveler post in Incheon

Baengnyeongdo: A Korean Island Shrouded in Legend and Memory

🌊 BAENGNYEONGDO (백령도) | An Island of Legend and Remembrance Did you know that South Korea has an island located very close to North Korea that is also deeply tied to a famous Korean legend? 🇰🇷 Baengnyeongdo (백령도), located in Incheon in the northern reaches of the Yellow Sea, is an island where stunning natural beauty, ancient folklore, and modern history meet. Today, I'll take you to discover two significant landmarks on this island 💙 🏯 1. Simcheonggak (심청각) | Simcheong Pavilion This pavilion was built to commemorate the legend of "Sim Cheong" (심청전), one of Korea’s most famous works of folk literature. The story tells of Sim Cheong, a devoted daughter who sacrificed her life to help her blind father, becoming a symbol of filial piety in Korean culture. Inside Simcheonggak, there are exhibitions featuring literature, illustrations, and media that tell Sim Cheong’s story, along with information about Baengnyeongdo. 🌸 Interesting Highlights · Sim Cheong statue in the exhibition area · Folk literature story exhibitions · Documents and media regarding the Sim Cheong legend · A viewpoint overlooking the Indangsu (인당수) Sea from the legend · On clear days, you can see Jangsangot (장산곶) in North Korea 📍 Address: 109-117, Baengnyeong-ro 316beon-gil, Baengnyeong-myeon, Ongjin-gun, Incheon 🕘 Open Tuesday–Sunday 09:00–18:00 🚫 Closed Mondays 🕊️ 2. Cheonanham 46 Heroes Memorial (천안함 46용사 위령탑) A memorial built to honor the 46 South Korean sailors who lost their lives in the ROKS Cheonan sinking on March 26, 2010, in the waters near Baengnyeongdo. The memorial was unveiled on March 27, 2011, and is located on the Yeonhwa-ri (연화리) coast near the site of the incident. The monument consists of three tall stone pillars and an area inscribed with the names and portraits of the 46 sailors, allowing visitors to remember the lives lost. The atmosphere here is different from typical tourist spots, as it is a place of memory reflecting the history and conflict on the Korean Peninsula. 📍 Location: Yeonhwa-ri, Baengnyeong-myeon, Ongjin-gun, Incheon 🔎 Search on Naver Map: 천안함 46용사 위령탑 🙏 Visitors are encouraged to visit with peace and respect, and to check visiting conditions in advance. 🚢 Traveling to Baengnyeongdo Travel by passenger ferry from the Incheon Coastal Passenger Terminal (인천항 연안여객터미널). ⏳ Travel time depends on the type of vessel and schedule; you should allow several hours per trip. ⚠️ Since the island is far from the mainland and sea conditions can change, you should check the ferry schedule and weather before traveling. ✨ Why is this island interesting? Because Baengnyeongdo isn't just about beaches and beautiful views; it's a place that connects folk literature, filial piety, and significant events in Korean history. It’s another side of South Korea that might not be very familiar, but it has more stories to discover than you might think 💙

Beyond Jeju: 8 Stunning Korean Islands to Explore (and How to Get There) — traveler post in Incheon

Beyond Jeju: 8 Stunning Korean Islands to Explore (and How to Get There)

When we think of traveling to South Korea, we usually think of Seoul, Busan, or Jeju first. However, Korea is actually home to many other beautiful islands worth visiting. Some are accessible by bus directly from Seoul, some are located near Incheon, and others require multiple ferry transfers, with each offering a completely different atmosphere. ▪︎ Ganghwado 강화도 — The closest escape from Seoul 🏯 Perfect for those who want to experience the sea, history, ancient fortresses, temples, and coastal mudflat views all in one trip. Most importantly, the island is connected to the mainland by a bridge, so no boat is required. 🧳 Getting there: From Sinchon, Seoul, take bus 3000 to Ganghwa Terminal (takes about 1 hour and 40 minutes) or you can drive directly onto the island. ▪︎ Muuido 무의도 — A beach getaway near Incheon Airport 🏖️ Known for Hanagae Beach and its scenic seaside walking trails. It’s an ideal choice if you are in the Incheon area and don't want to travel far. With the Muuidaegyo Bridge now open, you can drive directly onto the island. 🧳 Getting there: From Seoul, take the AREX to Incheon Airport and head toward Yongyu; from the airport, take bus 111 or 306 to the Yongyu area, then transfer to a local bus or taxi to reach Muuido. ▪︎ Udo 우โด — The emerald gem next to Jeju 🚲 This one is a longer journey from Seoul since you need to reach Jeju first, but it is incredibly fun once you arrive. It features beautiful beaches, volcanic rocks, a lighthouse, and a scenic cycling route around the island. 🧳 Getting there: Fly from Seoul to Jeju, then take Express Bus 101 or 111 from Jeju Airport to Seongsan Port. From there, it’s about a 15-minute ferry ride to Udo. ▪︎ Gureopdo 굴업도 — For a true off-the-grid experience 🌿 This tiny island has minimal facilities and remains quite rugged. Gaemeori Hill is a famous spot for camping and stargazing. It’s not meant for travelers seeking convenience, but it is a paradise for nature lovers. 🧳 Getting there: Head to Incheon Coastal Passenger Terminal and take the HAENURY ferry, which passes through the Deokjeokdo island group to reach Gureopdo. The total journey takes about 6 hours and 45 minutes, so it’s best to stay overnight and check the ferry schedule in advance. ▪︎ Ulleungdo 울릉도 — A volcanic wonder in the deep sea 🌋 With its sheer cliffs, seaside roads, and unique topography, this island is vastly different from the others on this list. It is perfect for those who prefer dramatic landscapes over relaxing sandy beaches. 🧳 Getting there: Travel from Seoul to Pohang and catch a ferry to Ulleungdo. The routes from Gangneung and Hupo should be double-checked as they have periodic service interruptions (with Gangneung potentially through 2026), making Pohang the main reliable route. Always check the latest ferry schedules before you go. ▪︎ Jindo 진도 — A large southern island reachable by land 🐚 Jindo offers a mix of sea, nature, culture, and the famous "Sea Parting" phenomenon. The island is already connected to the mainland by the Jindo Bridge. 🧳 Getting there: Take a direct bus from Seoul Central City Terminal to Jindo Bus Terminal. The journey takes over 5 hours, with no ferry transfer required. ▪︎ Geoje 거제도 — A favorite for road trip enthusiasts 🚗 As Korea's second-largest island, it features pebble beaches, dramatic cliffs, the Haegeumgang coastal road, and Oedo Botania. It is connected to both Tongyeong and Busan by bridges. 🧳 Getting there: Take a bus from Seoul Nambu Bus Terminal to Gohyeon Bus Terminal (approx. 4 hours and 20 minutes). From there, you can use local transport, but renting a car is much more convenient. ▪︎ Geumodo 금오도 — A paradise for seaside hiking 🥾🌅 If you want an island that focuses on trekking rather than lounging on the beach, this is the place. The Bireong-gil trail runs along cliffs and the sea, offering a much quieter atmosphere than more famous islands. 🧳 Getting there: From Seoul, take the KTX to Yeosu-Expo, then head to Singi Port via bus 109, 116, or seat bus 114. Then, catch the ferry from Singi to Yeocheon, Geumodo, which takes about 25 minutes. Summary for choosing by ease of travel: Ganghwado and Muuido are best for those staying in Seoul. Udo is perfect if you already have Jeju on your itinerary. Gureopdo and Ulleungdo require more time and careful ferry schedule planning. 😂 Note: Bus and ferry schedules, especially for more remote islands, vary by season and weather conditions. It is recommended to check Naver Map or the port websites again before your travel date.

Incheon from RM1,157 ✈️🇰🇷 | 5D4N Korea Guide — traveler post in Incheon

Incheon from RM1,157 ✈️🇰🇷 | 5D4N Korea Guide

I came across a Kuala Lumpur → Incheon return flight for RM1,157/person for 6–10 October, and it got me thinking about doing a Korea trip that isn’t just Seoul. The fare shown in my search includes 1 piece of 5kg carry-on, but no free checked baggage. There’s also a self-transfer in Phu Quoc with a 4h10m transfer time on the outbound journey, so this is definitely one of those fares where I’d check the full itinerary, baggage rules and total travel time before booking. ✈️ If I were planning my first trip to Incheon, I’d actually give the city a few days instead of treating it only as an airport stop. DAY 1 — Chinatown + Open Port I’d start with Incheon Chinatown, one of the city’s most recognizable historic areas, then explore the nearby Open Port district. This is the side of Incheon I’d be most interested in for architecture, old streets, cafés and food. It also makes sense to keep these places together rather than travelling across the city unnecessarily. DAY 2 — Songwol-dong + slow exploring I’d spend the next day around Songwol-dong, taking photos, exploring the colourful streets and leaving some time for cafés and small local spots. Rather than packing the schedule with attractions from morning to night, I’d leave a few hours completely unplanned. DAY 3 — Wolmido + the coast 🌊 For a change of scenery, I’d head towards Wolmido for a slower seaside day. I’d aim for the afternoon and stay into the evening for the waterfront atmosphere and sunset. This would probably be one of the more relaxed days of the trip. DAY 4 — Songdo Then comes the completely different side of Incheon. Songdo Central Park is surrounded by modern architecture, open spaces and a very different urban atmosphere from the historic districts. I’d spend the afternoon exploring the area, stopping at a café and staying until the city lights come on. DAY 5 — Slow morning + departure I wouldn’t plan anything too ambitious on the final day. Breakfast, a little last-minute shopping or neighbourhood exploring, then head towards the airport with enough buffer for the return flight. 🍜 And the food is another reason I’d want to visit. My list would include jjajangmyeon, mandu, kalguksu, tteokbokki, Korean BBQ and hotteok. Incheon is particularly interesting for Korean-Chinese food culture, so I’d definitely make time for jjajangmyeon rather than treating food as an afterthought. 💡 A few things I’d keep in mind for a first trip: · Check whether your flight includes checked baggage. · If your itinerary involves a self-transfer, allow enough time for baggage and re-check procedures. · Group nearby attractions together to reduce unnecessary travel. · Keep at least one slower afternoon for cafés and spontaneous exploring. · Check your return flight terminal and airport transfer plan before the final day. What makes me want to visit Incheon is the contrast. You can go from historic streets and Korean-Chinese food to seaside views and futuristic cityscapes without having to make the trip only about Seoul. #Incheon #IncheonTravel #IncheonGuide #IncheonItinerary #KoreaTravel

2 Cities in 1 Trip - 5 Days, 4 Nights in Korea: Seoul + Busan. — traveler post in Incheon

2 Cities in 1 Trip - 5 Days, 4 Nights in Korea: Seoul + Busan.

🇰🇷 5 Days, 4 Nights in Korea: Seoul + Busan 🌸 The ultimate itinerary for nature lovers, palaces, cafes, and the ocean—no hardcore shopping required! When most people think of Korea, Myeongdong or Hongdae usually come to mind. But honestly, Korea has another side that's breathtakingly beautiful and incredibly serene—think ancient palaces, traditional Hanok villages, lush green gardens, and ocean views that will literally take your breath away. This itinerary is perfect for travelers who want a laid-back vibe without rushing around, soaking up culture, nature, and a coastal city all in a single trip. ━━━━━━━━━━━━━━ 🌿 Day 1 | Kickoff in Seoul After landing at Incheon Airport in the evening, head straight into the city and check in to your hotel. Once you're settled, step out for a relaxing stroll along the Cheonggyecheon Stream. Even though this stream runs right through the heart of bustling Seoul, the vibe is surprisingly tranquil. With trees, gently flowing water, and a long pedestrian path, it's the perfect spot to kick off your trip on a chill note. As night falls, make your way over to Insadong, a historic neighborhood packed with traditional Korean restaurants, teahouses, cafes, and artisanal craft shops. It gives off such a warm, cozy feel, totally different from the big-city hustle most people associate with Seoul. ━━━━━━━━━━━━━━ 🏯 Day 2 | Palaces & Historic Vibes Photography buffs, get ready—today is for you! Start your morning at Gyeongbokgung Palace, the grandest of all Korean palaces. The architecture is absolutely stunning. If you really want to dive into the vibe, rent a traditional Hanbok to wear while exploring. Next, pop over to the National Folk Museum of Korea to get a taste of traditional Korean life and culture. Keep walking until you hit Bukchon Hanok Village, an incredibly well-preserved neighborhood of traditional Korean houses. Literally every corner here is an Instagram-worthy photo op. In the afternoon, hit up Changdeokgung Palace and the Secret Garden. It’s known as one of Korea's most gorgeous gardens, especially when the autumn leaves are putting on a show. Wrap up the day at Ikseondong Hanok Village, a super trendy Hanok district bursting with cute cafes, dessert spots, and aesthetic restaurants. ━━━━━━━━━━━━━━ 🚄 Day 3 | Catching the KTX to Busan One of the major highlights of this trip is hopping on the KTX (Korea’s high-speed train) from Seoul to Busan. It takes just about 2.5 hours. Once you arrive in Busan, your first must-see stop is Gamcheon Culture Village. It’s a vibrant, pastel-colored village nestled on a hillside, packed with street art and killer photo spots. Next, head to Huinnyeoul Culture Village. This seaside spot has a much quieter vibe, stunning ocean views, and cliffside cafes perfect for a quick breather. End the day at the Songdo Skywalk, a glass-bottomed walkway perched right over the ocean, giving you an epic, unobstructed view of the Busan sea. ━━━━━━━━━━━━━━ 🌊 Day 4 | Nature & The Busan Coastline Start your morning at Haedong Yonggungsa Temple, arguably one of the most stunning coastal temples in all of Korea. Built directly on the rocky cliffs along the shoreline, the temple overlooks the crashing waves and deep blue ocean. Trust me, it’s a view you just won’t find at your average temple. In the afternoon, take a leisurely stroll down Haeundae Beach, Busan’s most famous stretch of sand. Alternatively, hop on the Blue Line Park Sky Capsule—adorable, brightly colored little train cars that glide right along the coastline, offering panoramic ocean views the whole way. For the evening, head over to Gwangalli Beach. Grab a spot on the sand to watch the Gwangan Bridge light up—it’s hands down one of the most romantic nightscapes in Korea. ━━━━━━━━━━━━━━ ✈️ Day 5 | Heading Home Check out of your hotel and head over to Gimhae International Airport for your flight home. Even though it’s your last day, if you have a little time to spare, hit up a local cafe or bakery near your accommodation for one last treat. It’s a guaranteed way to end your trip on a high note! ━━━━━━━━━━━━━━ 💡 TL;DR: Who is this itinerary for? ✅ Travelers who want to explore Korea at a relaxed, unhurried pace ✅ Lovers of nature, palaces, and old-school city vibes ✅ Cafe hoppers and photography enthusiasts ✅ Anyone wanting to experience both the big-city hustle and beachy, coastal vibes in one trip If you’ve got 5 days and 4 nights, a Seoul + Busan combo is the ultimate, perfectly balanced route. You get to soak in Korean culture, magnificent palaces, Hanok villages, aesthetic cafes, and the beautiful beaches of Busan—all wrapped up in one trip without rushing around until you're exhausted.

A hidden gem resort, just a 10-minute drive from Incheon Airport! — traveler post in Incheon

A hidden gem resort, just a 10-minute drive from Incheon Airport!

Inspire Entertainment Resort is located on Yeongjongdo Island in Incheon, South Korea, less than a 10-minute drive from Incheon International Airport, with a complimentary shuttle service for guests. Upon entering through the main entrance, the check-in counter features undulating mountain contours outlined in natural wood, with a lush, verdant backdrop, bringing a modern touch close to nature. The heart of the lobby is undoubtedly Inspire's main lounge, Horizon Lounge. In the center of the circular bar, the 'petals' adorning the liquor cabinet feature flower-shaped cutouts, blooming at the ceiling's apex, creating a rich sense of depth. Breakfast is served here. The resort offers a total of 1,275 rooms, located in three hotel towers: Forest Tower, Ocean Tower, and the Reflection Tower, where I stayed. Rooms start from 44m². I stayed in a King Room in the Forest Tower. The room was comfortable and tidy, exuding a resort feel, with spacious living areas adorned with artworks. Outside the window was a view of lush, rolling hills. In addition to the main Horizon Lounge, Forest Tower, Ocean Tower, and Reflection Tower each have their own lounge spaces on the ground floor, with distinct styles catering to different guest groups. Inspire Entertainment Resort also boasts 10 unique restaurants and bars, offering a diverse selection. An indoor heated pool, spa center, and 24-hour fitness center are all available. The Splash Water Park, covered by a glass dome, is also one of Inspire's signature entertainment facilities. On the second floor of the resort, a 150-meter-long "Aurora Road" (high-definition LED display) comes to life on the ceiling, showcasing spectacular light shows every hour!

Spring Festival travel too expensive? This destination and price are truly irresistible! — traveler post in Incheon

Spring Festival travel too expensive? This destination and price are truly irresistible!

Nowadays, more and more people not only choose to use travel to unlock the sense of ritual for the New Year, but also hope to go abroad during the Spring Festival holiday, to experience something unique, stay comfortably, eat satisfactorily, and have a Lunar New Year with full "value for money." Whether you prefer quiet off-peak travel, are obsessed with the sense of history in ancient sites, long to escape the cold, or want to fully enjoy the snow and ice, why not pack your bags for the 2026 Bingwu Spring Festival and encounter the winter-exclusive beauty! 💂 Off-peak roaming, encounter the tranquil British charm In February, coinciding with the Chinese Spring Festival, the UK sheds the bustle of the peak season, revealing the elegant tranquility and depth of British culture. The slightly cool air carries a vintage charm; iconic red telephone booths on the streets, tea-scented shops, and royal warrant brands of varying luxury are all worth exploring slowly. This is the perfect time to quietly appreciate the treasures of the British Museum after the tourist crowds have dispersed, facing the collision of civilizations spanning thousands of years; visit Cambridge to see the gentle waves of the River Cam and the ancient college buildings cloaked in a layer of tranquility, where academic solemnity is especially prominent. In addition, you can use your free time to check in at London landmarks such as Big Ben, the London Eye, Buckingham Palace, and Westminster Abbey, stroll along Oxford Street and Regent Street, or immerse yourself in the artistic atmosphere of London’s West End and Shakespeare’s Globe Theatre, deeply experiencing the diverse charm of the Foggy City. 🏛️ Historic tours, touch the historical veins of France, Italy, and Switzerland Winter in Western Europe is free from heat and crowds. Walking the streets of France, Italy, and Switzerland feels like stepping into a three-dimensional scroll of historical monuments. From the ruins dating back to ancient Rome to medieval wooden structures, sunlight filtering through clouds shines on ancient relics, each telling its own story through the interplay of light and shadow. From the mysterious smile of the Mona Lisa to the elegant form of the Venus de Milo, now is the time to delve into the Louvre and savor the fusion of art and history; enter Notre-Dame Cathedral to witness the grandeur and sanctity of Gothic architecture; take a boat ride along the Seine River, where iconic landmarks like the Eiffel Tower and Place de la Concorde slowly narrate the chronicle of France; Chantilly Castle and the Palace of Versailles freeze courtly luxury in gilded decorations and mirror galleries. Before heading south to Italy, consider a stop in Lucerne, Switzerland. The Chapel Bridge spanning the Reuss River has witnessed centuries of change. Though not as grand as stone palaces, this ancient wooden bridge, with its warm wood and lake reflections, will wash away your travel dust; gondolas in Venice ripple the water reflecting Renaissance to modern mansions and old houses, the dome of Florence’s Cathedral of Santa Maria del Fiore showcases human ambition touching the sky, and standing inside the Roman Colosseum, you might glimpse the shadows of gladiators, completing a time-crossing dialogue with the ancient Roman Empire. 🔆 Warm escape, chase the Iberian sunshine Every February, while most of Europe is under the control of cold air, the Iberian Peninsula welcomes you with warm sunshine. With a comfortable and pleasant climate, the Mediterranean moisture and passion in Spain and Portugal make them ideal choices to escape the cold winter and enjoy a warm Spring Festival holiday. Step into Spain’s famous World Heritage treasure, the Alhambra Palace, and glimpse the glorious past of the Moorish dynasty through exquisite Islamic-style decorations and quiet courtyards; admire Seville’s landmarks such as Plaza de España, the Cathedral, the Royal Alcázar, and the Torre del Oro, feeling the unique Andalusian charm; through the changing light and artistic lines of the Sagrada Familia, Casa Batlló, and Casa Milà, Gaudí’s fantastic and stunning architecture unfolds before your eyes. Visit Lisbon, Portugal, to explore the Belém Tower and listen to the legendary stories of the Age of Discovery beneath this ancient defense tower; stand at Cabo da Roca, the westernmost point of continental Europe, facing the gentle sea breeze and gazing at the Atlantic Ocean, you will truly understand the meaning of "where the land ends and the sea begins." ❄️ Snow season fun, unlock winter-exclusive joy Whether it’s exhilarating skiing, culturally rich hanok villages, or lively street shopping districts, February of the 2026 Bingwu year is Korea’s snow season, an ideal time to experience Korean-style romance. Jisan Forest Resort, located near Seoul, offers smooth and wide ski slopes where beginners and advanced skiers alike can enjoy playing in the snow and racing freely; the rustic and elegant Eunpyeong Hanok Village at the foot of Bukhansan Mountain is perfect for atmospheric photos. Back in the city, snow-covered Gyeongbokgung Palace and Changdeokgung Palace offer a unique charm, with elegant ancient palaces and white snow forming a poetic picture; climb Namsan Park to gaze at N Seoul Tower or overlook the snow-covered panorama of Seoul, both beautiful and romantic; enjoy authentic Korean snacks and buy special souvenirs in Myeongdong, easily gaining the joy of winter shopping and eating. Of course, if you have ample time, you can choose to travel off-peak to Europe and Korea before or after the Spring Festival. Paradise City Cimer

I’m a regular visitor of this Spa! I speak Korean but I’ve never really needed to, so as an English speaking foreigner you’ll have zero issues! The website says you have to cover up tattoos but I don’t think anybody actually enforces it as I saw many walking with tattoos so no need to worry about that either! It’s a great place for family’s and as a friend outing too. Seriously amazing pools and I still haven’t explored it all even after visiting so many times! I will probably return again!

Incheon Chinatown

This area has lots of Chinese restaurants and a Jajjangmyeon Museum! Walking around Chinatown on foot is easy and you can take the subway to get here. Great for pictures too!

Wolmido

Wolmido is very far from Seoul city but it’s nice to visit. You can ride mini train to get to wolmido park while enjoying the scenery. It’s best if you plan to go in to the theme park, if not you’ll get boring fast.

Inspire Arena

I went to Inspire Arena for a concert, and it's incredibly spacious and beautiful! The large monitors were impressive; I wanted to keep watching them! It's a bit far from downtown Seoul, but I think it's great for a hotel vacation! Also, it's close to the airport, so it's a good option for staying towards the end of your trip to Korea! Next time, I'd like to stay overnight ❤️

I visited the Eland Hangang River Cruise with my family, and we had such a wonderful experience! The views of Seoul from the river were beautiful, and the whole cruise was relaxing and enjoyable. It was a perfect way to spend quality time with my family and make lovely memories together. Definitely recommend it, especially for families visiting Seoul!
