so i was in toronto recently and stayed at the park hyatt in yorkville. mostly because it’s literally next to the royal ontario museum and the university of toronto. absolute heaven for history geeks like me. the building has this 1936 old soul but they gave it a massive facelift. as a design student, i was basically staring at the details the whole time. very lowkey luxury. no loud gold-plated nonsense. just walnut wood, matte black bronze, and navy blue velvet. feels like you're walking into a very wealthy art curator’s private house. there's this bronze sculpture called Mixer at the entrance which is quite cool. my room had this huge window looking out at the ROM dome and CN tower. super cosy. they have le labo toiletries (bergamote 22, smelled amazing). but the highlight was definitely the writers room on the 17th floor. apparently margaret atwood used to hang out there. it has this double-sided fireplace and old fountain pens on display. i had a white negroni out on the terrace. looking at the cn tower lit up while drinking was a major vibe. oh, they don't have a pool. which is great for me because i can't swim anyway. they have a spa but i just drank my negroni and pretended to be a famous 1930s author.
