Staffs are friendly. The inn is situated inside the ancient wall town , which make it easy to walk around the town. The decor of the inn is very unique and i luv it. The only downside of the inn is no lift. But staff will help you to carry the luggage up. Highest floor is 3 levels.

This hotel is essentially next door to the Yungang Grand Hotel and is probably one of the best hotels in the area. The overall decor is very grand, giving off a luxurious vibe. The room itself was fantastic; the cleanliness, amenities, and room service all deserve five stars! Downstairs is Fengling Court, and it's about 1 km from Wanda Plaza, so it's quite convenient for getting around and dining. The downsides are that the pool closes pretty early, around 8 PM, and the changing rooms smelled strongly of urine. The pool water also didn't feel very clean, so that part of the experience was just okay. Additionally, breakfast was incredibly crowded, and you had to find your own seat. I hope they can optimize this, though I understand it's peak tourist season. Overall, I was still very satisfied!

On my trip to Datong, I booked a stay at the Howard Johnson Jindi Plaza Datong, located right by the ancient city, through Trip.com. It's rated 5 stars online, and it truly lives up to the hype! As soon as I checked in, I was upgraded for free to a deluxe business suite. It was my first time seeing a suite with a dining table big enough to host over 10 friends and family. After one night, I switched back to my originally booked business king room. The king room was also incredibly comfortable, measuring a spacious 62 square meters. Opening the curtains revealed views of Datong's streets. If you walk to the end of the corridor, you can even see a panoramic view of the ancient city of Datong. What truly stands out is the fantastic Chinese restaurant at this 5-star hotel. I stayed in Datong for three days, and除了one lunch I had in Hunyuan Ancient City, all my other five lunches and dinners were enjoyed at the hotel's Chinese restaurant. Here, a bowl of Shanxi's specialty knife-cut noodles is only 6 RMB, and a bowl of cold noodles, even tastier than those in Hunyuan, is just 3 RMB. You can order half portions of shumai, and during the first dog days of summer, they even had dumplings. I tried the braised deer tendon with scallions, something I'd never had before, and it was superb, as were the husband and wife lung slices and jellyfish salad – perfect with drinks. Dining here is delicious and affordable. If you top up 200 RMB, you even get a complimentary plate of Shanxi's signature 'guoyourou' (fried pork in sauce). A huge shout-out also goes to the restaurant staff. They are warm, thoughtful, and genuinely care for guests, even advising against ordering too much, ensuring just the right amount! In summary, I give a 5-star rating to both the hotel and the F&B department. The last photo is of the hotel's breakfast, which was also excellent. The hotel has two breakfast restaurants, so even with many guests, it never feels crowded!

Allow me to share my honest experience at this hotel in Datong: On the 9th day of my Shanxi trip, I caught a cold in Shuozhou. Upon arriving in Datong that evening, I chose to stay at Yunzhong Chaoran Pavilion. Just before going to bed, I noticed the bed frame making creaking noises. I contacted the butler, who explained that rosewood furniture can sometimes expand in the summer, causing friction and noise. As soon as the butler learned I had a cold, without a word, he immediately offered me a complimentary upgrade to a duplex room. He didn't leave until I confirmed that the new bed was silent. I had such a restful sleep that night. At breakfast, the waitress proactively asked if my cold was getting better and prepared ginger brown sugar tea and a light dinner for me. When she saw that I had a delivery person bring a bucket to soak my feet, she asked the kitchen chef to cut some ginger for me, suggesting I boil it to soak my feet to dispel dampness and cold. She also told me to rest for a while after soaking and not to rush checking out. This was the most touching day of my 10-day trip. Datong is truly magnificent! The people of Shanxi are genuinely simple and kind. The room's facilities were impeccable. If you're visiting Datong, I wholeheartedly recommend this place!

The hotel's location is quite good, and the facilities are average, more geared towards tourists than business travelers. The biggest downside to the rooms is the terrible soundproofing. From around 6 AM, you can constantly hear doors closing and people talking in the hallway, making it impossible to sleep. The service was overly enthusiastic but felt unnatural; I was asked ”How's your stay?” at least 6 times within 24 hours. I wish hotel management would focus more on practical details, like keeping the air conditioning running even after removing the key card during summer stays so guests don't return to a stuffy room, or relocating the toilet paper holder because it's currently in a very inconvenient spot. The photos are of the old town; I didn't take any pictures at the hotel during my stay.

Had a fantastic stay! We booked the 'sky-light room,' which was very quiet, allowing us to sleep soundly until morning. The front desk attendant was incredibly warm and helpful; she brought ice packs for my wife's sprained ankle and even lent us a charging cable. The guesthouse is conveniently located directly across from the old town city wall entrance, where you can climb up for free to enjoy panoramic views of the ancient city.

The rooms are well-appointed with solid materials, including many teal stone accents, and are well-maintained. 2. Upon check-in, the front desk offered us a choice of rooms. Although she warned that rooms near the elevator might be noisy, we didn't think much of it, assuming it was just guests coming and going. However, the real issue arrived. Before 5 AM on Sunday morning, a wedding photography team of over a dozen people showed up in the stairwell, complete with a wind machine and other equipment, to take pictures of the bride. They made a ruckus for over an hour. The most outrageous part was them smoking in the elevator area – isn't this supposed to be a non-smoking floor?! A word of caution for weekend guests: avoid rooms facing the elevator lobby, as you might get woken up. 3. As for breakfast, it's incredibly substantial here. They have freshly grilled fish and steak made on the spot early in the morning, along with beef and potatoes, braised pork, and large shrimp. Of course, standard hotel breakfast items like bacon and sausage are also available. The downside is that it gets crowded; even between 7 AM and 8 AM, about 70-80% of the tables are occupied.

Pros: 1. Convenient location 2. Excellent service, very responsive to requests Cons: 1. The hotel hallways and elevators reeked of sewage – I've never experienced anything like it before. 2. The room design was extremely 'user-friendly': 2.1 The frequently used vanity mirror had no independent light switch; you had to turn on all the room lights from the bedside panel to illuminate the sink... 2.2 The shower room only had a low-power exhaust fan for ventilation. The enclosed design made taking a hot shower feel like climbing Mount Everest. 2.3 The 'smart' toilet would always flush intelligently at the most inconvenient times. 2.4 The air conditioning vent was thoughtfully positioned to blow directly onto your head, perhaps to prevent guests from getting a fever at night. There was no way to avoid it, ensuring a 'cool' night. It's hard to imagine these significant flaws in a hotel that just opened in 2026.

The hotel is very close to the ancient city, about a 10-minute taxi ride or a 30-45 minute walk. There are shared bikes in the vicinity, but you'll need to look for them. There are supermarkets on both sides of the hotel entrance, with the one on the left being larger and fully stocked with all sorts of daily necessities. We even bought several bottles of vinegar to take home. The hotel lobby offers coffee, popcorn, and ice, and there's a self-service beverage machine right as you enter. The hotel has four floors; the basement has guest rooms, a restaurant, a gym, and a laundry room. The restaurant only serves breakfast, and I particularly recommend the knife-cut noodles and lamb offal soup with vermicelli. The dishes are all delicious, with both Chinese and Western options. It's 20 for adults and 20 for children (check the hotel policy for specifics), which I personally think is great value. The staff are all very enthusiastic, and the front desk staff are beautiful and speak softly. The hotel offers nine free services: laundry, foot bath basins, evening porridge (currently unavailable), laundry (staff can help with washing, then pick up at the front desk), and daily necessities (razors, facial cleanser, etc.). You can scan a QR code by the bed in your room to select the daily necessities you need, and a robot will deliver them to your room door. The Tmall Genie in the room is very smart, and the entire hotel uses a shared Wi-Fi with super-fast internet speed. I suggest replacing the three washing machines and three dryers in the laundry room directly with six washer-dryer combos. Number all six machines, and then, as it is now, guests could check the laundry status on their room TV. It would also be good to add doorbells and hangable 'do not disturb' signs outside the guest rooms. The hotel has six EV charging stations. Although they are all slow chargers, charging overnight doesn't affect travel the next day. If you're going to see a show at Daiwangfu, I personally recommend driving, as it's impossible to get a taxi in the ancient city after 11 PM. In that case, you can take bus #2 (Night 2) and get off at 'Bus Company 4' stop, then walk 5-8 minutes to the hotel. There's also a small farewell gift!

The room was very comfortable. Service: The room service was excellent. An auntie surnamed Cui and a young man (sorry, I forgot to check his name) who I believe are in charge of the executive floor, were very quick to respond. Late-night porridge: A bowl of millet porridge late at night is incredibly comforting for the stomach.
