"A rather mediocre experience. I've been a Ctrip member for 15 years and rarely leave bad reviews, so I'll give this a passing grade of 3.0. The main reasons for the average experience were: 1. My baby had a fever in the middle of the night and couldn't get up the next day. I wanted to take some breakfast back to the room, but they wouldn't allow it, and the staff's attitude was quite stiff. At over 1700 RMB for two nights for three adults and one child, the price wasn't cheap. Since the hotel couldn't be understanding towards me, I can't be understanding towards them in my rating. 2. There must be floor heating or central air conditioning, because the room was extremely dry, even drier than indoors in Beijing during the heating season."

"My child absolutely loved this room! Besides being spacious, it was incredibly well-equipped. They even provided free earplugs and makeup remover wipes, not to mention complimentary tricycles and bicycles for exploring the ancient city. It was very quiet at night, making for a peaceful sleep. And the front desk staff? Their service was exceptional – truly made our stay comfortable and pleasant. The breakfast, served on a street in the ancient city, was just a few hundred meters away."

"What a pleasant surprise this stay was! (´▽`) The location is excellent, right next to the district government and very close to the ancient city, making it super convenient for getting around. There's a delicious knife-cut noodle place nearby that opens at 6:30 AM, and the Tangjiu convenience store next door also opens early. The first floor has a lovely book bar where you can borrow books for free, and they serve coffee and cocktails – perfect for enjoying a drink while reading. So many interesting books too! I also really loved their decor; the tatami mat rooms have a dedicated reading table, and the mattress was incredibly comfortable. The disposable amenities were comprehensive, and that horse oil toiletries set left me feeling moisturized inside and out (in a good way!). What really stood out during my stay were the front desk ladies. They were all so wonderful, always greeting us warmly when we returned. Their service was incredibly attentive and so heartwarming! 🥺 Any request we had was met quickly. Thanks to them, I've been sleeping so well these past few days 555. I really don't want to leave! I'll definitely stay here again next time I'm in Datong. I've already highly recommended it to all my friends! (￣∇￣)"

However, the service doesn't match the environment. Breakfast was chaotic; there was no one to guide us to a table, and we couldn't find chopsticks until we asked for them.
They mentioned complimentary bathhouse and swimming tickets, but the women's area in the basement only has a pool for swimming. The 'bathhouse' consists of just two bathtubs, which require an extra charge to use. It's quite pointless; they might as well just say there's a swimming pool.
The Fenglin Pavilion restaurant on the first floor is excellent."

"Stepping into Datong Ancient City in the afternoon, the first pleasant surprise was stumbling upon Renyi Inn.
The inn's antique courtyard, adorned with carved beams and painted rafters, and warm red lanterns, instantly brought a sense of calm. The family who runs the inn is incredibly humble and kind, their conversations warm and thoughtful, making you feel right at home. What's even more admirable is their exceptional care for animals; the inn is like a mini-zoo. They treat every little creature with gentleness and patience, which in turn fills the entire courtyard with life and spirit.
Upon entering, a majestic grey parrot, both poised and lively, greeted me from the front desk – I'd never seen such a large pet parrot before! Two smaller parrots chirped happily nearby, completely unafraid of strangers, lively and adorable. Outside my room was a small courtyard with two tea tables. After a 'special forces'-style day of temple hopping, when I was tired to the point of tears, sitting there enjoying a cup of tea was incredibly relaxing. In the adjacent fish pond, a dozen or so vibrant koi, each weighing at least two to three pounds, swam gracefully, their bodies stretching elegantly. Next to the pond, a large and a small tortoise slowly ambled, quiet and therapeutic. In a corner cage, a tiny grey squirrel darted around, agile and playful.
As dusk fell, watching the lights reflect on the pond and listening to the soft sounds of the small animals, the weariness of travel seemed to melt away in this gentle atmosphere, leaving my heart filled with peace and healing.
I thought this wonderful experience was complete, but to my surprise, a new delight awaited me the next morning – two peacocks, 'Wenqing' (blue and white) and 'Xiaofeng' (emerald green), strolled leisurely in the courtyard with their magnificent tails fanned out – yes, they even have names! The eye-spots on their tail feathers shimmered, as if they were wearing the entire starry sky, beautiful like something straight out of an ancient painting. For a moment, I couldn't tell if I was in an inn or a secret wonderland.
Renyi Inn is far more than just a place to stay; it's a hidden gem within the ancient city. The harmonious coexistence of people and animals creates a warm and healing atmosphere, adding countless gentle and delightful moments to this journey."

The high-floor views are excellent, and the overall experience was fantastic. Upon arrival, we were offered a complimentary late-night snack and fresh fruit daily. Room service was very attentive; housekeeping and food delivery were both great. Since Datong has been quite dry lately, they even provided pear soup daily. The breakfast selection was extensive, and the lamb offal noodles were particularly delicious. I would definitely choose Howard Johnson again on my next visit to Datong."

Fahua Temple, Nine-Dragon Wall, and Huayan Temple are all nearby. Kailu Restaurant inside the ancient city is quite good, while Fengling Pavilion is just okay. The room is spacious and very clean, and they even provided 2 complimentary drinks in the fridge. There's an underground parking garage with free parking; just scan a code when you leave. I personally really enjoyed the lamb offal soup with rice noodles for breakfast, ordered it two days in a row. The fruit was fresh and tasty. If you like street food, there's plenty right across the road, and it seemed quite popular. Overall, highly recommended."

"This guesthouse is absolutely fantastic! It's located within the ancient city walls, offering a peaceful retreat amidst the hustle and bustle. The villa-style building is charming, and the bedding and bathroom were incredibly clean, dry, and odor-free. The hostess is wonderful; she added me on WeChat beforehand to arrange pickup and even prepared some fruit for us. She also recommended some authentic local cuisine. The breakfast was incredibly rich, with millet porridge, steamed buns, mantou, sweet potatoes, and corn. What really stood out was that the side dish wasn't just simple pickles, but a freshly tossed, refreshing vegetable salad! 👍 The guesthouse's location is super convenient for exploring all the attractions within the ancient city. I also highly recommend Master Chang, who the hostess suggested. As a retired military veteran, he has a strong sense of responsibility and meticulousness. Since it was our first time in Datong and we wanted to visit Hanging Temple, Mount Heng, Yungang Grottoes, and Yanmen Pass in just two days, Master Chang even recommended additional unique attractions based on our interests. He worked tirelessly to help us secure tickets and went above and beyond to fulfill our wishes in Datong, contacting people everywhere. After two days, he felt like a close friend, constantly looking out for our needs. He's a very enthusiastic and trustworthy individual who made our Datong trip truly wonderful and complete! I wanted to share this great experience and recommend it to anyone visiting Datong for the first time or planning a return trip!"

In the Ming and Qing dynasties, it gradually became a residential block, and the traditional courtyard pattern has been retained to this day. Dongnanyi Historical and Cultural District is a key cultural and tourism development project in Datong City. It takes the construction concept of "inheriting historical context and retaining the atmosphere of the city". It took five years of restoration and reconstruction through protection, renovation, and repair. It was opened in 2023. The hotel's courtyard No. 38 is one of the reconstructed projects and is a representative traditional house in Southeast City.
