Hotels in Ancient City Tourist Cultural Area, Datong

The location is absolutely fantastic, right in the heart of the ancient city. For dining: Xi Jin Dao is downstairs, Fenglin Pavilion is a 10-minute walk, and Long Juxiang offers delivery directly to your phone. Every time we took a taxi back to the inn, we'd get off at Huayan Hotel and walk two minutes. The popular Heshengcai is a 10-minute walk (though the taste was just so-so, and none of the pastries even had an ingredient list). For sights: Huayan Temple is a 5-minute walk. I visited Shanhua Temple at night, which was about a 15-minute walk. During the May Day holiday, there were only about 10 people in the entire temple at night, so we could enjoy a peaceful visit. On the way back and forth, we also saw the city wall's light show and passed through a lantern festival. Rumeng Datong (Dreams of Datong) was also within walking distance. Service was great too. On our last day, we had to leave for the train station at 7:30 AM, and the owner even packed breakfast for us. The lamb offal soup with vermicelli every morning was delicious. The furniture is all elm wood. The loft family room was perfect for our family of three. The only downsides were that the room rate was expensive during May Day, and the bathroom design was a bit impractical.

The hotel's facilities are excellent. The lobby is grand and elegant, and the rooms are spacious with good hygiene. The location is very convenient for tourists; it's only about a ten to twelve-minute walk to the Datong Ancient City direct shuttle bus stop. In the evenings, you can walk through the ancient city and past the Heyang Gate to reach the Sipaifang commercial food street, which is always bustling. It's so convenient and comfortable to enjoy the beautiful ancient city views and explore the Dongnanyi Historical and Cultural Pedestrian Street. I highly recommend this hotel! 👍

The hotel's location is excellent, very close to the city center, making it easy to get to both the ancient city and commercial areas. Parking was also convenient for those arriving by car. Great value for money! The rooms were clean and tidy, with a good separation of wet and dry areas. The soundproofing was also decent. The butler was warm and patient, always ready to answer any questions, which definitely enhanced our positive impression of Datong.

This was my first trip to Datong, and I booked three consecutive nights (July 9th-July 12th) at the Meijing Heyang Hotel. I chose it primarily because of its proximity to the ancient city. After checking in, I realized just how close it was – right next to the East Gate (Heyang Gate) of the ancient city, making access incredibly convenient. On the 9th, while I was still touring Yanmenguan, I received a confirmation call from the hotel, asking about the number of guests and any special requests, which felt very professional. Upon checking in, the room was comfortable, the bath towels were individually packed in special bags, and to my surprise, the pillows were buckwheat – a really pleasant touch. The breakfast was very homestyle; the milk was of excellent quality, forming a skin on top, and there was fermented bean curd, which was delicious. During my stay, I often saw Manager Ren on duty in the lobby. He would ask for our feedback on our stay and our experiences exploring, then enthusiastically offer suggestions, which was truly thoughtful. I've already returned to Beijing after my trip, but next time I visit Datong, I'll definitely choose Meijing Heyang again.

This guesthouse is absolutely fantastic! It's located within the ancient city walls, offering a peaceful retreat amidst the hustle and bustle. The villa-style building is charming, and the bedding and bathroom were incredibly clean, dry, and odor-free. The hostess is wonderful; she added me on WeChat beforehand to arrange pickup and even prepared some fruit for us. She also recommended some authentic local cuisine. The breakfast was incredibly rich, with millet porridge, steamed buns, mantou, sweet potatoes, and corn. What really stood out was that the side dish wasn't just simple pickles, but a freshly tossed, refreshing vegetable salad! 👍 The guesthouse's location is super convenient for exploring all the attractions within the ancient city. I also highly recommend Master Chang, who the hostess suggested. As a retired military veteran, he has a strong sense of responsibility and meticulousness. Since it was our first time in Datong and we wanted to visit Hanging Temple, Mount Heng, Yungang Grottoes, and Yanmen Pass in just two days, Master Chang even recommended additional unique attractions based on our interests. He worked tirelessly to help us secure tickets and went above and beyond to fulfill our wishes in Datong, contacting people everywhere. After two days, he felt like a close friend, constantly looking out for our needs. He's a very enthusiastic and trustworthy individual who made our Datong trip truly wonderful and complete! I wanted to share this great experience and recommend it to anyone visiting Datong for the first time or planning a return trip!

The hotel staff were incredibly accommodating. They upgraded us to a family room, and the breakfast spread was fantastic, offering a great mix of local Shanxi specialties and Western options. We wanted to extend our stay in the same room, but it wasn't available. However, the lobby staff went above and beyond to arrange a king-size room for us. While it was a bit pricier, it felt completely worth it. The TV was a little small, but the rewind function was a great bonus, allowing us to catch up on shows.

Ive just left the Inn and on the train to the next destination. I wish I could stay longer as this was such a pleasant stay. The boss lady was so nice. I booked just a basic room but got upgraded to almost a studio flat with separate bedroom in the mezzanine and lounge downstairs. Everytime I come back from sightseeing, all hot tired, the boss lady gave me a bowl of delicious melons. It was sweet and juicy. The best melons I have had. The second time she also gave me bananas. It was so much needed. The hotel is in the perfect location. Thank you for a wonderful stay. 1. From Datongnan station there are buses 608 or 61 which takes you directly to Huayansi stop, less than 1min from the hotel. However, the hotel frontage is a jewelry shop, I didn't know so ended up walking up/down the street for 10mins before the boss lady realised and came out to tell me I have arrived. 2. If you want to go to Yungang Grottoes. From the same bus stop take bus 38, then change to bus 3 to get to the Grottoes. Journey time about an hour in total. And cost 4RMB (2RMB per bus). However, you have to set up some kind of public travel app from Wechat to get the QR code to pay the bus fare. I didn't know this. Fortunately, some nice people helped pay my fare, then another lovely girl helped set up the app enabling me to use the bus from then as when I arrived and took the bus from the train station to hotel Wechatpay didn't work. Fortunately the driver let me ride for free as I guess he realised Im foreign and don't have this app. Only when I took the bus to Yungang Grottoes, the girl told me I need to set up the travel app etc and helped me set it up. 3. The hotel is also right opposite to the Huayan temple. A beautiful ancient temple. Deffo can't be missed. The hotel occupies two floors, the ninth and tenth, and the rooms are spacious. All facilities are almost brand new. The entire room is smart home; the bathroom nightlight is sensor-activated, only illuminating when you enter the bathroom at night, so the light won't disturb your partner's sleep. The mattress is also very comfortable and supportive. I slept soundly and felt refreshed. The room's cleanliness and soundproofing are excellent. I'm seventy years old and very sensitive to noise; even the slightest sound will wake me up, but I slept very comfortably here, even more comfortably than at home. The young lady at the hotel reception was incredibly helpful and enthusiastic. She assisted us with various issues and enthusiastically introduced us to different restaurants and attractions in Datong. She helped us integrate into the local life as soon as we arrived in the city. My partner said that she alone would make it worthwhile to come back to Datong again. This hotel will be my only choice for my next trip.

Garden Hotel holds a special place in the hearts of Datong locals; every taxi driver I met spoke highly of it. The location is excellent, right within the ancient city, making it convenient to get anywhere. I had two meals at the hotel, and the quality was very good. On my last day, I tried a popular, queue-inducing restaurant near the ancient city gate, but it honestly wasn't as good as the food at the Garden Hotel. The breakfast selection was limited, but the quality was decent. My room had a smart toilet, but the shower stall was too small. The soundproofing could also be a bit better. On my first day, after a lot of walking, my ingrown toenail flared up. A male staff member at the hotel's recreation center quickly fixed it for me, and by the next day, it didn't hurt at all! 👍 Overall, after a three-day stay, I am very satisfied with Garden Hotel.

On our road trip to Datong, we chose this newly opened hotel. The room was incredibly spacious, and they even had a laundry room and a gym. The hotel breakfast was also fantastic. My elderly family members were really happy with it too! 👍
