"The hotel is very close to the ancient city, about a 10-minute taxi ride or a 30-45 minute walk. There are shared bikes in the vicinity, but you'll need to look for them. There are supermarkets on both sides of the hotel entrance, with the one on the left being larger and fully stocked with all sorts of daily necessities. We even bought several bottles of vinegar to take home. The hotel lobby offers coffee, popcorn, and ice, and there's a self-service beverage machine right as you enter. The hotel has four floors; the basement has guest rooms, a restaurant, a gym, and a laundry room. The restaurant only serves breakfast, and I particularly recommend the knife-cut noodles and lamb offal soup with vermicelli. The dishes are all delicious, with both Chinese and Western options. It's 20 for adults and 20 for children (check the hotel policy for specifics), which I personally think is great value. The staff are all very enthusiastic, and the front desk staff are beautiful and speak softly. The hotel offers nine free services: laundry, foot bath basins, evening porridge (currently unavailable), laundry (staff can help with washing, then pick up at the front desk), and daily necessities (razors, facial cleanser, etc.). You can scan a QR code by the bed in your room to select the daily necessities you need, and a robot will deliver them to your room door. The Tmall Genie in the room is very smart, and the entire hotel uses a shared Wi-Fi with super-fast internet speed. I suggest replacing the three washing machines and three dryers in the laundry room directly with six washer-dryer combos. Number all six machines, and then, as it is now, guests could check the laundry status on their room TV. It would also be good to add doorbells and hangable 'do not disturb' signs outside the guest rooms. The hotel has six EV charging stations. Although they are all slow chargers, charging overnight doesn't affect travel the next day. If you're going to see a show at Daiwangfu, I personally recommend driving, as it's impossible to get a taxi in the ancient city after 11 PM. In that case, you can take bus #2 (Night 2) and get off at 'Bus Company 4' stop, then walk 5-8 minutes to the hotel. There's also a small farewell gift!"

Hotel near Datong Fantawild Adventure/Wanda Plaza (Datong Shop),Datong
As a premium lifestyle brand under the Radisson Hotel Group, Radisson RED Datong is built around the poetic vision of a "Levitating Sanctuary in Timeless Harmony." The hotel masterfully fuses the architectural ingenuity of the Hanging Temple with the artistic soul of the Yungang Grottoes, creating a striking new landmark that blends profound cultural heritage with contemporary design. More than just a hotel opening, it stands as a modern expression of Northern Shanxi's culture—offering discerning travelers and trendsetters a curated stay that is truly storied, stylish, and sophisticated. Strategically located at 470 Xingping Street in Pingcheng District, the hotel sits right in the vibrant heart of the city with seamless transport links. It is just a 10-minute drive from Datong South Railway Station and approximately 25 minutes from Datong Yungang Airport. Surrounded by rich cultural treasures, the hotel is only a 15-minute drive from the Datong Ancient City area, including iconic sites like Huayan and Shanhua Temples, while the magnificent Yungang Grottoes are a convenient 30-minute drive away. To top it off, the property neighbors the Wanda Plaza commercial district, putting dining, shopping, and entertainment right at your doorstep—the perfect blend of historical exploration and urban relaxation.

"I drove my son to Beijing for university from Yinchuan, and we decided to stop in Hohhot and Datong along the way. Datong exceeded our expectations; we originally planned for two days but ended up staying five nights and six days. The city's rich history, profound heritage, and relaxing atmosphere were all delightful surprises that made us want to linger. Our stay at the Rezen Hotel was particularly an unexpected pleasure. The decor and design are generally unique, stylish, and very urban, with a black and red color scheme that exudes sophistication. The room facilities, including Toto bathroom fixtures and a Dyson hairdryer, were very comfortable. I particularly appreciated the thoughtful lighting design – at night, you don't need to turn on the main light to go to the restroom; the lights automatically sense your movement from the bed to the bathroom. We had also booked a room at the Yungang Grand Hotel, but after checking in here, we decisively canceled that reservation. This hotel has a limited number of rooms, making it a more niche option. I personally recommend it for younger travelers, and also for middle-aged guests who appreciate quiet and seek quality. If I ever come to Datong again, or find a Rezen Hotel in another city, I will definitely choose to stay there."

"This time I came to Datong to stay at this homestay and the experience was full! The homestay is newly renovated, the rooms are very clean and tidy, and all kinds of facilities are very new and comfortable. The view of the yard is beautiful, and it is especially pleasant to sit in your leisure time. What impressed me the most was the boss family, who treated people sincerely and enthusiastically, and made the journey particularly warm. Highly recommended, I will choose here next time I come to Datong!"

"The hotel occupies two floors, the ninth and tenth, and the rooms are spacious. All facilities are almost brand new. The entire room is smart home; the bathroom nightlight is sensor-activated, only illuminating when you enter the bathroom at night, so the light won't disturb your partner's sleep. The mattress is also very comfortable and supportive. I slept soundly and felt refreshed. The room's cleanliness and soundproofing are excellent. I'm seventy years old and very sensitive to noise; even the slightest sound will wake me up, but I slept very comfortably here, even more comfortably than at home. The young lady at the hotel reception was incredibly helpful and enthusiastic. She assisted us with various issues and enthusiastically introduced us to different restaurants and attractions in Datong. She helped us integrate into the local life as soon as we arrived in the city. My partner said that she alone would make it worthwhile to come back to Datong again. This hotel will be my only choice for my next trip."

Hotel near Ancient City Tourist Cultural Area,Datong
Deep in the heart of the ancient city lies an elegant courtyard house — Huazhu · Lanzhuting Homestay. Nestled within the Datong Ancient City scenic area, it blends seamlessly with the surrounding grey brick walls and upturned eaves, as if it has always been a part of this land. What is most remarkable is that, despite being located within the scenic area, it achieves a perfect balance of tranquility amidst the bustle — a mere three-minute walk takes you to the lively main street, yet with a single turn, you can instantly return to this peaceful, serene little haven. Such a place to stay truly brings joy to the heart. The homestay is tucked away in a deep alley of Dongnanyi, surrounded by the unique, smoky charm of the old city. A short walk brings you to the bustling commercial street, while turning the other way leads you into a particularly quiet residential area. Effortlessly switching between movement and stillness — this is exactly what an ideal homestay should be. Stepping into the courtyard, you are greeted by an air of elegance. The courtyard house layout retains its traditional charm, while the interior of the rooms features smart decor — clean, crisp, and tasteful. Tradition and modernity shake hands here, preserving the ancient character while ensuring comfort and convenience for modern living. It is worth mentioning that the homestay has a dedicated parking area, so guests arriving by car need not compete for spaces within the scenic area. For those visiting the ancient city, this thoughtful touch is deeply appreciated. What truly moves people, however, are the details hidden from plain sight. The guest rooms are equipped with kettles and showerheads featuring disposable liners — seemingly small items that speak volumes about the pursuit of hygiene and quality. Excellent service often lies in these easily overlooked corners. When it comes to hospitality, it feels like a spring breeze. The owner and the young lady at the front desk are exceptionally warm, making you feel at home from the moment you check in. They proactively recommend local specialty snacks and travel routes, helping guests avoid detours and miss none of the city's highlights. For accompanying children, the hosts go the extra mile — not only offering the little ones free drinks but also giving them more beverages upon checkout. Such meticulous care warms the heart. Breakfast is one of those small, anticipated joys of the day. The wontons are especially fragrant — a steaming bowl wakes up the entire morning. The owner also shares well-planned sightseeing routes based on his deep knowledge of the ancient city, allowing guests to truly appreciate the charm and heritage of Datong, without the rush and crowds. If you order takeout in the evening and find the room a bit cramped, there's no need to worry. Such effortless yet perfectly timed care is precisely what makes Lanzhuting most endearing.

"An absolutely gem inside the Datong ancient city square in a modern gated compound, conveniently located within walking distance to shops, restaurants and many ancient and historical sites. Our booking came with a free pick up and drop off from the train station. The room is super clean, comfortable and well equipped ( with Dyson hair drier) whilst the toilet is fully automatic with a heated seat . Our main highlight is most definitely the incredible staff. They were warm, attentive and the service was so personal that our experience in Datong became so special. We were concerned as we weren’t able to book our entry ticket to the Hanging temple before we arrived, but the staff recommended a fantastic driver who took us there early in the morning and ensured everything worked out well. The homemade and included breakfast was delicious and incredibly special . They also prepared our breakfast to go on the day we left very early in the morning. Similarly whenever we asked for a recommendation for restaurants or activities, they very kindly personally accompanied us to where we needed to go whilst ensuring we were attended to. All their suggestions were superb. The level of attention we received is simply unmatched compared to that of large hotel chain."

"We booked two rooms for two nights, and my parents really liked the hotel. We wanted to extend our stay for another day, but unfortunately, it was already fully booked. The hotel is not far from the ancient city, and check-in was very comfortable. The front desk staff were friendly and enthusiastic, and the breakfast was plentiful and delicious, including sliced noodles, lamb offal soup, and wontons, as well as Chinese and Western options – I really enjoyed it! The restaurant staff were also very diligent, clearing and cleaning tables quickly and thoroughly, paying great attention to detail! The room decor was simple yet elegant, featuring a smart toilet, and thoughtfully provided with disposable toilet seat covers (which deserves a huge thumbs-up), truly excelling in attention to detail! The mini-fridge was stocked with complimentary water and drinks, and the room also had complimentary Datong specialty snacks (dried apricots and almonds). The hairdryer also had strong airflow. We drove from the hotel to the Yungang Grottoes quickly using our navigation. In summary, this hotel offers great value for money. We will definitely stay here again next time we visit Datong."

Integrating the architectural form of ancient courtyards with wabi-sabi minimalism, this cultural homestay exudes a tranquil and leisurely vibe. Rooted in the layout of traditional Chinese courtyards, the project blends oriental wabi-sabi aesthetics with modern minimalist design, guided by earthy hues and natural raw materials throughout the space. The facade features blue bricks paired with partial eaves covered in traditional grey tiles, striking a balance between classic and contemporary architectural styles. The courtyard is paved with antique blue bricks, forming an enclosed natural leisure zone. Interiors are finished primarily with art paint, solid wood, handmade tiles and rattan. Classic Chinese elements including sloped roofs, wooden grilles and antique windows are reinterpreted in a modern style. The front lobby houses an integrated reception counter and refreshment bar. Accommodation includes zen single rooms, LOFT duplex suites and standard twin rooms. A no-main-lighting scheme provides soft illumination without excessive ornamentation. Leveraging the natural grain of materials, the homestay offers a serene mountain getaway where tradition and modernity blend seamlessly.

"Summer vacation kicked off, so my two friends and I, along with four elementary school kids, decided to visit Shanxi to experience the rich history of its ancient architecture. It was definitely a worthwhile trip, full of amazing discoveries! As someone visiting an unfamiliar city for the first time, I felt compelled to take the time to write a review for Yunqi Shanyuan B&B. This place truly elevated our entire trip for all three families. The location is superb, right in the heart of the ancient city, making transportation incredibly convenient. In just about ten minutes on foot, we could easily reach various attractions within Datong's ancient city, like Dongnanyi, Daiwang Mansion, and Huayan Temple – all closely connected and bustling with activity! My friend meticulously researched and selected this hotel. It's relatively new since its opening, with modern and well-equipped facilities, including smart voice control (Xiao Du). It's impeccably clean, tidy, and its convenient location is beyond reproach. They even have a washing machine, a tea area, and a reading nook for kids. The complimentary buffet breakfast offers a wide variety of options, many of which are local specialties, and it was quite good. Finally, what truly impressed and touched my friends and me was the thoughtful and warm service from the owner and staff, from top to bottom. When we arrived in Datong after transferring from Taiyuan by high-speed train, two cars were arranged to pick us up right away. Despite the light rain, the staff had umbrellas ready and were waiting for us at the intersection, helping us with our luggage and getting us settled in. Everyone was delighted! They also provided plenty of snacks, toys, and complimentary fruit that the kids loved. Any request, big or small, was promptly addressed and arranged. The service level was on par with a five-star hotel! A heartfelt thumbs-up! 👍 I sincerely wish the owner a thriving business and believe that with such a sincere service philosophy, they will surely prosper for a long time!"
