"The hotel is very close to the ancient city, about a 10-minute taxi ride or a 30-45 minute walk. There are shared bikes in the vicinity, but you'll need to look for them. There are supermarkets on both sides of the hotel entrance, with the one on the left being larger and fully stocked with all sorts of daily necessities. We even bought several bottles of vinegar to take home. The hotel lobby offers coffee, popcorn, and ice, and there's a self-service beverage machine right as you enter. The hotel has four floors; the basement has guest rooms, a restaurant, a gym, and a laundry room. The restaurant only serves breakfast, and I particularly recommend the knife-cut noodles and lamb offal soup with vermicelli. The dishes are all delicious, with both Chinese and Western options. It's 20 for adults and 20 for children (check the hotel policy for specifics), which I personally think is great value. The staff are all very enthusiastic, and the front desk staff are beautiful and speak softly. The hotel offers nine free services: laundry, foot bath basins, evening porridge (currently unavailable), laundry (staff can help with washing, then pick up at the front desk), and daily necessities (razors, facial cleanser, etc.). You can scan a QR code by the bed in your room to select the daily necessities you need, and a robot will deliver them to your room door. The Tmall Genie in the room is very smart, and the entire hotel uses a shared Wi-Fi with super-fast internet speed. I suggest replacing the three washing machines and three dryers in the laundry room directly with six washer-dryer combos. Number all six machines, and then, as it is now, guests could check the laundry status on their room TV. It would also be good to add doorbells and hangable 'do not disturb' signs outside the guest rooms. The hotel has six EV charging stations. Although they are all slow chargers, charging overnight doesn't affect travel the next day. If you're going to see a show at Daiwangfu, I personally recommend driving, as it's impossible to get a taxi in the ancient city after 11 PM. In that case, you can take bus #2 (Night 2) and get off at 'Bus Company 4' stop, then walk 5-8 minutes to the hotel. There's also a small farewell gift!"

"Staying here, for the price, the room amenities are probably among the best in the area. The room came with a Dyson hairdryer, Malin+Goetz toiletries, and I think Ora2 toothpaste, plus a huge vanity. The slippers and bedding were incredibly comfortable. The mini-bar was also very thoughtfully stocked with drip coffee, nuts, and local specialty drinks. Overall, very satisfied. Dining: The breakfast was genuinely excellent and great value. The hot food section offered local Datong specialties that were even better than what you'd find outside. There was also a dedicated daily recommendation for 'local snacks and desserts.' The fruits and other dishes were both abundant and fresh – fantastic. Experience: The service was very attentive. When I was checking out, I had my hands full and couldn't carry a water bottle, so the front desk lady even gave me a cross-body bag for it. In the evening, I enjoyed the complimentary cocktails; the bartender lady introduced many local Datong delicacies, making this trip to Datong even more perfect. I would definitely recommend this to other friends! I also didn't get a chance to use the Haagen-Dazs voucher."

"This time I came to Datong to stay at this homestay and the experience was full! The homestay is newly renovated, the rooms are very clean and tidy, and all kinds of facilities are very new and comfortable. The view of the yard is beautiful, and it is especially pleasant to sit in your leisure time. "The hotel occupies two floors, the ninth and tenth, and the rooms are spacious. All facilities are almost brand new. The entire room is smart home; the bathroom nightlight is sensor-activated, only illuminating when you enter the bathroom at night, so the light won't disturb your partner's sleep. The mattress is also very comfortable and supportive. I slept soundly and felt refreshed. The room's cleanliness and soundproofing are excellent. I'm seventy years old and very sensitive to noise; even the slightest sound will wake me up, but I slept very comfortably here, even more comfortably than at home. The young lady at the hotel reception was incredibly helpful and enthusiastic. She assisted us with various issues and enthusiastically introduced us to different restaurants and attractions in Datong. She helped us integrate into the local life as soon as we arrived in the city. My partner said that she alone would make it worthwhile to come back to Datong again. This hotel will be my only choice for my next trip."

Our family brought our little one to visit Datong Ancient City, and our stay here far exceeded our expectations. I especially want to highlight the service: the staff were so kind and patient. Whether it was asking for directions, storing luggage, or needing something last-minute, they were always there immediately, providing attentive and thoughtful service throughout, making us feel completely at ease. The guesthouse's location is superb – it's a short walk to explore the Ancient City, Huayan Temple, and the city walls, saving us the hassle of commuting. The New Chinese-style courtyard is elegant and peaceful, and the rooms are clean and spacious. The bathroom has a separate wet and dry area, and a humidifier and refrigerator are all provided, which is great for the dry climate in the north; our child was very comfortable. There's also a relaxation area in the courtyard, so coming back to rest after a day of exploring was incredibly relaxing. We were genuinely touched by the meticulous service throughout our stay. It's very family-friendly, offers incredible value for money, and if you're coming to Datong with kids, just book it without hesitation!"

"This hotel is truly excellent! It's super new, and all the facilities are fantastic. I booked a king room with a terrace, and the small terrace was incredibly comfortable and quiet at night. From the professional and polite driver who picked me up to the front desk service, everyone was wonderful. Even though it wasn't my first time visiting Datong, the warm and welcoming people here are the main reason I'd keep coming back. The location, needless to say, is top-notch. I was originally considering booking a room at [redacted mountain hotel], but I'm so glad I made a much better choice here. The breakfast was also incredibly delicious! The 'dao xiao mian' (knife-cut noodles) – with genuinely high-quality pork – and the lamb offal soup were even better than what you'd find outside. (The ones outside are often too salty, to the point where I thought I couldn't handle Datong's lamb offal soup.) I devoured two bowls! While the breakfast spread wasn't huge, everything was truly exquisite. Even the coffee tasted good, indicating quality beans. The chefs were also very kind, and their culinary skills were amazing! Sometimes, you really don't need to chase after '网红店' (internet-famous eateries); what the hotel offers is superior. Unfortunately, I didn't get to experience the swimming pool because I was rushing to a scenic spot. It's surprising that such a small hotel/guesthouse even has a pool! Next time, I definitely need to stay for a few more days to enjoy it. Finally, as someone who is quite a germaphobe and has never stayed in a guesthouse before, this new hotel/guesthouse really met my standards. Highly recommended. The off-season price is also quite reasonable."

"A small but beautiful hotel. I initially thought it was a new brand under a chain hotel, but an AI search revealed it's a local establishment, and a very well-run one at that! The staff are all polite and always smiling; they greet you every time you pass through the lobby. Their uniforms are lovely, made of cotton and linen, which shows the owner has great taste. The design in all customer-facing areas is very tasteful, with a 'scene at every step' feel, and many floral arrangements with artificial flowers. The gym is always occupied in the evenings, and while the yoga room is spacious, no one seems to use it. They could definitely add more treadmills, as one isn't really enough. The breakfast is truly delicious. I had the lamb offal noodles for three days straight, and they offer many local specialties like millet cold cake and dao xiao mian (knife-cut noodles), with dishes changing daily. I would definitely stay here again if I return."

It was definitely a worthwhile trip, full of amazing discoveries! As someone visiting an unfamiliar city for the first time, I felt compelled to take the time to write a review for Yunqi Shanyuan B&B. This place truly elevated our entire trip for all three families. The location is superb, right in the heart of the ancient city, making transportation incredibly convenient. In just about ten minutes on foot, we could easily reach various attractions within Datong's ancient city, like Dongnanyi, Daiwang Mansion, and Huayan Temple – all closely connected and bustling with activity! My friend meticulously researched and selected this hotel. It's relatively new since its opening, with modern and well-equipped facilities, including smart voice control (Xiao Du). It's impeccably clean, tidy, and its convenient location is beyond reproach. They even have a washing machine, a tea area, and a reading nook for kids. The complimentary buffet breakfast offers a wide variety of options, many of which are local specialties, and it was quite good. Finally, what truly impressed and touched my friends and me was the thoughtful and warm service from the owner and staff, from top to bottom. When we arrived in Datong after transferring from Taiyuan by high-speed train, two cars were arranged to pick us up right away. Despite the light rain, the staff had umbrellas ready and were waiting for us at the intersection, helping us with our luggage and getting us settled in. Everyone was delighted! They also provided plenty of snacks, toys, and complimentary fruit that the kids loved. Any request, big or small, was promptly addressed and arranged. The service level was on par with a five-star hotel! A heartfelt thumbs-up! 👍 I sincerely wish the owner a thriving business and believe that with such a sincere service philosophy, they will surely prosper for a long time!"

"This is the third time my family and I have visited Datong. The first two times we stayed in hotels, but this time we wanted to try a guesthouse. After checking reviews on Dazhong Dianping, we chose Bo.Yuan Guesthouse (Huayan Temple Branch) because of the traveler comments and its 4.9 high rating. The experience was excellent, so I wanted to share my review. The day before our trip, the guesthouse manager proactively called us to discuss our itinerary in Datong and our mode of transportation. She also offered a pick-up service, so we provided our travel details. Before we arrived at Datong South Station, a lady called to confirm the pick-up time and location, and informed us of her arrival time. When we got to the waiting area, we waited for about two minutes. The guesthouse lady called again, repeatedly apologizing for being two minutes late. She reconfirmed our waiting spot and described what she was wearing so we wouldn't miss her. When we met her, she didn't look like a typical pick-up driver, but rather a very elegant and young lady. She greeted my family and me warmly, saying, ”I'm so sorry for being two minutes late. The hotel is quite busy today, and the regular pick-up driver couldn't make it. After they told me, I rushed over to pick you up myself. Our hotel values integrity, and since we promised a pick-up service, even if there was no available car, I couldn't use a ride-hailing app. So, I truly apologize for being a few minutes late.” From this conversation, we learned that she was the female owner of the guesthouse. Throughout the journey, she was very talkative and friendly, making us feel completely at ease. She introduced us to the guesthouse and the unique features of Datong, and soon we arrived at the guesthouse. We chatted a lot with her during the short half-hour drive—perhaps it was fate. **1. Guesthouse Environment and Service:** Upon arriving at the guesthouse courtyard, we found it to be a very distinctive Siheyuan (quadrangle courtyard). The staff were all very enthusiastic, proactively helping us with our luggage and offering us tea. Since we arrived before check-in time, our room was still being cleaned. To minimize our waiting time, the owner personally urged the cleaning staff to finish quickly. She also used the waiting time to introduce us to the guesthouse's room features and restaurant. Once the room was ready, our room was on the second floor. The staff proactively helped us take our luggage up and turned on the air conditioning. Inside the room, it felt wonderful. Although the room retained the ancient charm of a Siheyuan, the infrastructure was very modern and high-tech, featuring central air conditioning, button-controlled panels, a projector instead of a TV, and an electric toilet. The hotel amenities also catered thoughtfully to modern women, such as essential oils in the toiletries, and provided toilet seat covers, disinfectant wipes, and wet wipes. Additionally, the welcome fruit quality was excellent; the owner mentioned she personally selected and purchased everything herself. The room was very quiet. I usually have trouble sleeping, but this time, I didn't experience insomnia due to changing locations. Instead, I slept exceptionally well because of the tranquil courtyard. **2. Guesthouse Breakfast:** From the room to the restaurant, every staff member we encountered greeted us warmly. In the restaurant, the staff proactively introduced the breakfast options and asked if we needed any help. The breakfast selection was very rich, combining Western and Chinese dishes to satisfy every guest's palate. There was vegetable salad, fruit platters, coffee, milk, yogurt, sausages, grilled chicken wings, stir-fried baby cabbage, bread, sweet potatoes, corn, purple rice paste, knife-cut noodles, wontons, and dumplings. The ingredients for these dishes were all personally selected and purchased by the owner, ensuring their freshness. All dishes were freshly prepared by the chef and tasted excellent. Although the restaurant might not be as large or offer as many varieties as four or five-star hotels, the quality of ingredients and taste were certainly on par with their culinary standards. Escaping the hustle and bustle of the big city for a weekend in Datong, our short two-day trip is coming to an end. The cultural heritage of Datong, its unique cuisine, and our stay at Bo.Yuan Guesthouse have all left a wonderful impression on me.
