GGuest UserMy stay at Boli Designer Homestay in Datong Ancient City completely redefined my expectations for high-end guesthouses, offering an immersive slow-paced experience within the ancient city.
The guesthouse is nestled in a tranquil alley on Guangfujiao Street. With its grey brick walls and natural wood doors and windows, stepping inside immediately transports you away from the hustle and bustle of the city outside. The wabi-sabi garden design is particularly striking, with dry landscape features dotted along the gravel paths. In the afternoon, sunlight streams through the eaves, creating elegant patterns of light and shadow.
Every detail in the room showed thoughtful consideration. The minimalist soft furnishings were both luxurious and comfortable, and the bedding was soft and gentle on the skin, allowing me to shed my travel fatigue the moment I lay down. The high-quality toiletries on the vanity were on par with those found in five-star hotels. Even the hairdryer's power and noise control were just right, ensuring a peaceful rest.
What truly impressed me was the guesthouse's service. The 24-hour butler was always on call, yet maintained a perfect sense of distance. Upon arrival, they proactively helped with luggage and offered tips for exploring the ancient city. They even arranged complimentary pick-up and drop-off services from the station, saving me the hassle of lugging suitcases around. The evening nightcap and hot soup were delightful surprises; on a chilly ancient city night, sipping warm soup instantly banished the cold.
Breakfast was another highlight. The sea cucumber and millet porridge was rich and savory, and the handmade shaomai had thin wrappers and generous fillings, offering an authentic taste of Datong. Paired with refreshing side dishes and freshly ground soy milk, it was the perfect start to an energetic day.
The guesthouse's location is also superb. Within a few minutes' walk, you can reach key attractions like Huayan Temple and Shanhua Temple, eliminating the need for crowded transportation and allowing for a leisurely and enjoyable exploration of the ancient city. Upon check-out, the butler even presented a thoughtfully prepared souvenir, a true testament to their sincerity.
This stay was absolutely perfect. I've already recommended Boli Designer Homestay to all my friends planning to visit Datong, and I'll definitely choose it again on my next visit to the ancient city! A special thank you to Butler Qiqi, who was incredibly patient and provided excellent service.

This time, I stayed in the Nianxiali Boutique Hotel in Datong Ancient City, which completely exceeded my expectations! It not only has a superior geographical location (super convenient for visiting the ancient city), but also impressed me with the ubiquitous ”sense of refinement” and ”considerateness”, which made the whole accommodation experience full marks!
The surprise started with washing my face: As soon as I entered the bathroom, I saw the bear thick cotton towel! It is not the kind of thin disposable towel, but a thick, soft, and super-good cotton towel. It is very comfortable to wash your face and hands. The texture is perfect. I instantly felt that the hotel was really willing to spend money on supplies and took care of the guests' demand for quality. This small detail made my favorability towards the hotel soar!
A little expert in atmosphere: The room is equipped with a small speaker, which is simply a weapon to enhance happiness! Back to the room at night, connect your mobile phone to play some favorite music, take a bath or just lie quietly, the hustle and bustle of the ancient city fades away, and your own quiet time is surrounded by beautiful melodies, and the atmosphere is directly full.
Worry-free toileting: toilet paper is specially prepared in the bathroom! This seemingly small configuration is extremely thoughtful and hygienic when needed. It avoids embarrassment and also reflects the hotel's careful observation of the actual needs of guests, which is really a plus.
Sophisticated laundry detergent: I also found a small bottle of laundry detergent with exquisite packaging! For those who need to wash small clothes (such as socks and underwear) on a short trip, this is simply a timely help. It is no longer a simple soap flake, but a high-quality laundry detergent, which once again proves the hotel's attention to details.
In summary, Nianxiali Boutique Hotel perfectly interprets the word ”boutique”. It is not only clean and comfortable, but also infused with care and quality in every detail you can think of and can't think of. From the thick touch of the bear cotton soft towel, to the atmosphere brought by the small speaker, to the practical problems solved by toilet paper and exquisite laundry detergent, you can feel respected and cared for everywhere.
This is definitely one of the best hotels of the same type I have stayed in in terms of details of ”improving the comfort and experience of staying”. Highly recommended to travelers who pursue quality and pay attention to details! In Datong Ancient City, if you want to live comfortably and stylishly, Nianxiali is definitely your best choice! Next time I come to Datong, I will definitely stay here again!

GGuest UserYou truly appreciate the difference when you have something to compare it to. I first stayed at Datong Hotel thirty years ago, so naturally, it was my top choice for this visit to Datong.
Let's start with the 'positives'. For my first night, I chose the VIP building, thinking that with the country's rapid development, hotel accommodations must have advanced significantly. The promotional materials also touted its spacious and new rooms. However, upon checking in, I felt it wasn't worth the price. The front desk clearly had better rooms available but was unwilling to offer them without an additional charge for these 'so-called' superior rooms. It makes me wonder if the front desk staff has ever stayed in a four-star hotel or above. The VIP building's only real 'plus' was its larger space; otherwise, nothing felt particularly impressive. In the VIP building, the bathroom fixtures were broken, the walls didn't appear thoroughly scrubbed, and the carpet was dirty.
This judgment was drawn from a direct comparison. Dissatisfied with the VIP building, I decisively checked out and opted for the old building, where I had stayed three decades ago. I was touched by the elderly gentleman at the front desk even before seeing the room. Upon checking in, I discovered that apart from the room size being smaller than in the VIP building, everything else was equally good, if not better. The elderly gentleman at check-in introduced the amenities along the way – his service was truly commendable, and I plan to get his name for a special mention in a future review. The old building's walls were freshly painted, and the carpet was notably cleaner than in the VIP building. The toiletries also felt superior to those in the VIP building. The headboard cushions were clean and tidy, and the curtains were elegantly neat and clean.
Suggestions for the old building: The TV is quite old; replacing it shouldn't be too expensive. Attention to detail is crucial: the faucet handles, though old, have a noble appearance. The only imperfection is the missing small cap on the handle – a small blemish on an otherwise noble piece. The bathtub drain was malfunctioning. The shower curtain could be raised slightly higher. Since there are paintings, their frames should be clean and clear. The small cap on the toilet seat was also missing. Most importantly, the bathroom floor was quite slippery; measures should be taken to prevent guests from falling. Additionally, the old building's self-promotion is lacking. Enlarged photos of renowned figures who once stayed here should be displayed prominently. No other hotel in Datong boasts such an honor, and that's precisely your unique selling point.

GGuest UserWe arrived at 7pm. The waiter Xiao Zheng warmly received us and instructed us how to take the elevator to the room. In the evening, he also considerately sent us a bowl of longevity noodles. The baby is a big kid, and the shoes provided by the hotel are a bit small. That night, the housekeeper was very enthusiastic to find a pair of suitable slippers for us. The hotel did not have a refrigerator, and the housekeeper brought ice. We always felt that this service was what a resort hotel should have. Because we predicted that the hot spring would be changed that night, we decided to take a hot spring bath the next day. To be honest, the facilities are lacking, and the hot spring water is not live water, and there is no filtration. It started at 9 o'clock, and we went to soak before 10 o'clock. There were already some stratum corneum. The pavilion was filled with new water, but it also needed to be cooled down before we could go. In short, the hot spring facilities need to be improved. In addition, I want to say about smoking control. I hope the service staff can stop guests from smoking in the indoor hot spring area. There are many children, which is very inappropriate.

GGuest UserThe whole building of the hotel is very grand, divided into two buildings, Building A and Building B. The hotel is very new, the service is warm, and seeing that we brought two children, they gave us an extra children's breakfast coupon. Overall, I am very satisfied, but I have one shortcoming: there is no place to hang towels in the bathroom and washbasin. It is recommended to install it, otherwise where to put clothes and towels when taking a bath.
