"Summer vacation kicked off, so my two friends and I, along with four elementary school kids, decided to visit Shanxi to experience the rich history of its ancient architecture. It was definitely a worthwhile trip, full of amazing discoveries! As someone visiting an unfamiliar city for the first time, I felt compelled to take the time to write a review for Yunqi Shanyuan B&B. This place truly elevated our entire trip for all three families. The location is superb, right in the heart of the ancient city, making transportation incredibly convenient. In just about ten minutes on foot, we could easily reach various attractions within Datong's ancient city, like Dongnanyi, Daiwang Mansion, and Huayan Temple – all closely connected and bustling with activity! My friend meticulously researched and selected this hotel. It's relatively new since its opening, with modern and well-equipped facilities, including smart voice control (Xiao Du). It's impeccably clean, tidy, and its convenient location is beyond reproach. They even have a washing machine, a tea area, and a reading nook for kids. The complimentary buffet breakfast offers a wide variety of options, many of which are local specialties, and it was quite good. Finally, what truly impressed and touched my friends and me was the thoughtful and warm service from the owner and staff, from top to bottom. When we arrived in Datong after transferring from Taiyuan by high-speed train, two cars were arranged to pick us up right away. Despite the light rain, the staff had umbrellas ready and were waiting for us at the intersection, helping us with our luggage and getting us settled in. Everyone was delighted! They also provided plenty of snacks, toys, and complimentary fruit that the kids loved. Any request, big or small, was promptly addressed and arranged. The service level was on par with a five-star hotel! "This guesthouse is absolutely fantastic! It's located within the ancient city walls, offering a peaceful retreat amidst the hustle and bustle. The villa-style building is charming, and the bedding and bathroom were incredibly clean, dry, and odor-free. The hostess is wonderful; she added me on WeChat beforehand to arrange pickup and even prepared some fruit for us. She also recommended some authentic local cuisine. The breakfast was incredibly rich, with millet porridge, steamed buns, mantou, sweet potatoes, and corn. What really stood out was that the side dish wasn't just simple pickles, but a freshly tossed, refreshing vegetable salad! 👍 The guesthouse's location is super convenient for exploring all the attractions within the ancient city. I also highly recommend Master Chang, who the hostess suggested. As a retired military veteran, he has a strong sense of responsibility and meticulousness. Since it was our first time in Datong and we wanted to visit Hanging Temple, Mount Heng, Yungang Grottoes, and Yanmen Pass in just two days, Master Chang even recommended additional unique attractions based on our interests. He worked tirelessly to help us secure tickets and went above and beyond to fulfill our wishes in Datong, contacting people everywhere. After two days, he felt like a close friend, constantly looking out for our needs. He's a very enthusiastic and trustworthy individual who made our Datong trip truly wonderful and complete! I wanted to share this great experience and recommend it to anyone visiting Datong for the first time or planning a return trip!"

"I came to Datong to book a small courtyard homestay. I originally planned to stay for one night and transition. "My stay here exceeded expectations! The room was spotless and tidy, the bed and pillows were very comfortable, and the quiet environment ensured a great night's sleep. The front desk attendant was incredibly enthusiastic and proactive; when I was doing my laundry, she specifically came over to show me how to use the machines and even stayed to help me hang everything to dry afterward. She also thoughtfully asked if I was comfortable with the disposable toiletries and offered cotton bath towels if I wasn't, which was a wonderful touch. "As a loyal Holiday Inn customer, I've stayed at many of their locations. I found the Holiday Inn in Datong to be slightly better than those in Xi'an and Tianjin. Of course, those other Holiday Inns also meet the group's standards, but the Datong one truly stands out. The rooms are quite spacious, and the facilities are newer. In particular, the restaurant offers a 68 yuan set meal for two, which is excellent value for money. The breakfast is also very generous, featuring a delicious lamb offal noodle soup, a true specialty of the Northwest region."
