I stayed at the Jiuholi Courtyard Homestay within Datong Ancient City for three days during my three-day trip to Datong. By the end of it, I was seriously considering saving up to buy a courtyard home myself! The owner just laughed and said, 'That's not something you can just save up for!' Hahahaha, and he's right! This little courtyard is just so peaceful and comfortable. The room temperature, amenities, and bedding quality were all excellent.
Location: It's just a few minutes' walk to the ancient city, with the city wall right across the street. Getting to Huayan Temple and the Nine-Dragon Wall was super convenient, all within walking distance.
Service: The service was genuinely impeccable. The owner personally handled our pick-up and drop-off, making us feel like we were being hosted by a favorite uncle – perfectly attentive without being intrusive. The front desk staff were absolutely wonderful, dedicated to providing excellent service, and always spoke softly and politely.
Amenities: They had a Dyson hairdryer, L'Occitane toiletries, and a smart heated toilet seat. I finally stayed in a smart voice-controlled room in the north! [crying emoji][crying emoji] Even the five-star hotels I've stayed in didn't have voice control, but this place does!
Living Environment: It was so quiet and peaceful. Plus, during my stay, the other guests were all very considerate; I didn't hear a peep from anyone else. I absolutely loved the room decor! I seriously want the hotel's design plans, haha!

GGuest UserI can’t stop raving about this inn. It is a B&B style three stories tall inn located inside the Datong Ancient City. Complimentary shuttle service between the airport or railway station made it really convenient for out of town travelers. The guest room was clean and equipped with modern facilities like automatic toilets, coded entry, projection screens, etc. The inn is located near the north gate of the city amongst other accommodations. Within minutes of walking is access to the top of the city wall where bike rental is available to ride along the wall. The inn is very quiet at night. The inn is family operated and everyone was very hospitable. What sets this inn apart from other accommodations in the area is their dedication to service. The owner knew I was a tourist and new to the area, she offered to pick me up if I got lost wandering the ancient city. The breakfast came with my reservation. When the owner found out I had to depart before breakfast serving hours, she went above and beyond to prepare food and served me 30 minutes ahead of schedule. The food tasted amazing and came with abundant varieties and huge portions. It was definitely not part of the service to drop off at another venue, but the owner took me to my next accommodation 2km away. I truly appreciate everything this inn and its staff has done for me. I am so glad to have chosen to stay this beautiful little inn on my first night in Datong. I will definitely stay here again without a doubt on my next visit.

DDafeieThe room was great, and the underfloor heating kept it very warm. The courtyard (siheyuan) is absolutely beautiful. The underground parking was also very convenient. The service was excellent. I didn't use my car for two days, so leaving wasn't the smoothest. I had to rush to Yungang Grottoes and left before 7 AM, getting a bit delayed at the entrance. The parking fee was 100 RMB (even though there was a free parking voucher, it didn't link successfully), but the owner paid it for me. This is a very responsible establishment, and both the owner and the housekeeper are wonderful. The location is super convenient, and the breakfast is incredibly delicious. Many thanks!

GGuest UserThe best stay I’ve ever had in my entire life — and trust me, I’ve stayed in plenty of hotels and B&Bs. ;)
The rooms are gorgeous, spotless, and super comfortable, with great attention to detail — everything I could possibly need (and more!) was provided. The bathroom even had a Dyson hair dryer, a Kohler heated automatic toilet, and a Hansgrohe faucet! If you’re not familiar with these brands, just know they’re the best you can get. The location is convenient for reaching downtown Datong and various points of interest… but honestly, these technical aspects — which alone would already deserve a 10-star rating — pale in comparison to the warmth and kindness we received from the B&B owners.
My friends and I truly felt at home, pampered by Ben, the guy who runs the place with such care and attention to his guests that I’ve never experienced anywhere else (not even in 5-star hotels!). He and his sister picked us up at the station — both speak excellent English (which is not something you can take for granted in China) — and they recommended amazing local restaurants, must-see attractions, and even welcomed us with a lovely gift package of local specialties.
For breakfast, Ben’s mother prepared a rich and delicious traditional meal, and for our train trip she even packed homemade bread for us to take along!
Datong is a charming city, and if you visit, you absolutely have to stay here!!!

KKatrin SauthoffMy husband and I are a couple from Germany. We booked two nights there, and our decision was absolutely the right one. From the initial contact (via the WeChat app, which is essential for your entire trip to China) to our departure, everything was perfect. We were picked up from the train station by car and taken to the hotel free of charge. This is especially good for Western tourists who don't speak Chinese. The first problem would have been explaining to the taxi where we wanted to go. The lobby and rooms are very beautiful, stylish, and equipped with the highest technology. Most of the guest rooms face the inner courtyard, so you can sleep very quietly and comfortably. The beds are very large and comfortable. The hotel's location is excellent. It's located on the northern edge of the Ancient City of Datong, just a few minutes' walk from the tourist attractions and the colorful and lively old town. So you can enjoy it without being disturbed by noise. I would especially like to emphasize the friendliness of the staff. Unfortunately, we don't speak Chinese, and the staff didn't speak English, but with the help of modern communication tools (language apps), we understood each other perfectly. Every request was fulfilled. There's even the option to use a washing machine in the basement of the hotel. This is especially fantastic for tourists on longer trips to China, as it allows for easy laundry. If you ever come back to China, we will definitely book this hotel again.

BBoluomitangThe environment here is great. It's located within the ancient city but away from the super crowded areas, so it's really quiet at night. The only downside is that cars aren't allowed in the ancient city, so dragging luggage can be a bit of a walk. The courtyard is perfect for a chat and a cup of tea; it's quite tranquil.
The service was very good. You can tell they put a lot of thought into everything; it's all very refined. The afternoon tea was lovely, and both the dried apricots and mandarins were delicious. For breakfast, you can choose between lamb offal soup with rice noodles or刀削面 (daoxiao mian - knife-cut noodles).
The facilities are quite comprehensive, with a coffee machine and a disposable bathtub liner. However, there's still room for improvement. The air conditioning in the room works, but it can make the air quite dry. The water heater is electric, and it's a bit tricky to get the hot and cold water balance just right. If two people shower consecutively, the next person has to wait quite a while.
Overall, it's still a good place to stay. It's very convenient for exploring the ancient city, and it's not far to take a taxi to the grottoes.

CCoco catHygiene: The room was very clean, and all the toiletries were provided.
Environment: Located in the ancient city, it's quiet yet bustling. It's just a 10-minute walk to Daiwangfu.
Facilities: They had a humidifier, a heater in the bathroom, and Daikin air conditioning, just like at my own home, so I was extremely satisfied.
Service: They picked me up from the station and dropped me off. Since my high-speed train was very early, we were very grateful for the drop-off. The butler brought us whatever we needed.
Summary: The butler even helped us take some candid photos, and in the evening, they provided milk and other amenities. The only regret is that we left too early to go sightseeing and didn't get to try their breakfast.

Guandi Temple's entrance is literally on your doorstep, and during the Spring Festival, performances are held on its east side. This makes exploring and dining out incredibly convenient. The independent courtyard offers a beautiful and tranquil environment, complemented by attentive and warm service. With breakfast included, I highly recommend this place for your stay.

GGuest UserWe took a 23-day trip through China, staying in 9 different hotels. Without hesitation, I can say that our stay at Floral stood out in many ways. First, the hotel's structure is very beautiful and has been renovated while staying true to the traditional style of the region. The hotel room itself was probably the most beautiful we had seen on our entire trip: spacious, with windows that actually opened, good air conditioning, and modern decor and furniture without being over the top. Second, the hotel's location is within the boundaries of the city wall and is part of the old town, so beautiful to walk around and see the traditional houses - many of them renovated according to the traditional style. And third and most importantly, the kindness of the people who work at the hotel. I have never felt so welcome anywhere on holiday as at this place. Unfortunately, I arrived with health problems and needed antibiotics - equivalents of the ones I had brought from Europe. I asked the reception where I could find the closest pharmacy, but rather than guiding me there, Xiao Liu, the lady at the reception, figured out for me which antibiotic would be the right one and got it for me. The same when we needed a suitcase, rather than sending me to the shop she inquired about our desired suitcase and in one hour it was there. Drinks are complementary at any time of the day, and the breakfast (Chinese and international - sandwiches) was generous and unlimited. When we were running late coming back from the grottoes and needed to catch a train, Xiao Liu helped us out by bringing us all our suitcases directly to the train station. We will never forget all these acts of kindness and we are still grateful to her and the entire hotel staff for making us feel so much at home. Datong will stay in our minds and hearts forever thanks to the people of the Floral hotel. Datong is special enough for all the incredible cultural sights you can visit - but our stay there will never be forgotten thanks to the beauty of the Floral Hotel and its amazing people. THANK YOU SO MUCH!!!!

GGuest UserThis hostel is an absolute gem! Its location is fantastic, right next to Datong Ancient City, making it super convenient to cycle there in the morning. You don't have to make your own bed, and the bedding feels really clean. The hostel facilities are incredibly comprehensive; they provide a washing machine and detergent, and the washing machine even has a dryer function. There are plenty of shower rooms, all very clean, with great water pressure for hot showers. There's even a dedicated vanity room for hair drying, skincare, and makeup. The hairdryer works really well, and get this – they even provide face masks! I was absolutely astonished when I saw that. The common area is quite spacious, with a vending machine for snacks and drinks, and lots of tables for eating. The water dispenser is also located there. It looks like there's even a projector area in the common space, and the hostel offers free rentals of DJI drones and Instax cameras, which I haven't used, but that's a definite plus! The hostel is completely separated by gender; all facilities mentioned, except for the common area, are segregated for male and female guests, which is another big thumbs up! Perhaps the only potential downside is that the hostel rooms don't have doors, so noise can be an issue. However, I visited during the off-season when there were hardly any guests, so for me, this hostel had no cons, only pros. Considering all its facilities and its extremely competitive pricing, this hostel gets a massive thumbs-up from me!
