GGuest UserI highly recommend this guesthouse for anyone visiting Datong! The owner is incredibly warm and thoughtful. They proactively communicated with me even before I arrived and, upon check-in, immediately provided a meticulously prepared guide covering attractions, transportation, and local food – truly a one-stop solution that saved me so much hassle. The local snacks they recommended were authentic and delicious; following their advice, I never had a bad meal. The guesthouse itself is clean and elegant, with a prime location that makes getting around very convenient. The service is genuine and attentive, making for an absolutely wonderful experience. It was a super heartwarming trip, and I genuinely recommend it to everyone!

GGuest UserI've wanted to stay here for a long time, and this family trip finally made that dream come true. The check-in experience was excellent, and the facilities showed incredible attention to detail. The complimentary toiletries pack even included electric toothbrushes and Gillette razors, and all the snacks provided were from Sam's Club. Breakfast was exceptional – an à la carte style where they'd prepare whatever you ordered. Everything tasted fantastic, and there were plenty of choices. Enjoying delicious pastries in the courtyard under the sun was a truly wonderful experience!
In the evening, friends came over, and we sat on the courtyard sofa, chatted, drank tea, and watched the clouds in the night sky. We even caught a drone show from Dai Wang Mansion, which was truly delightful! We also toured the owner's private museum and wine cellar. It certainly lives up to its reputation as a courtyard built with 200 million yuan; the main gate in the middle is 200 years old. Every detail exudes taste and grandeur!
The service was excellent too. Although there weren't many staff members, they were very responsive. When my shoes got wet in the heavy rain, they even brought a hairdryer to dry them for me – I was truly grateful! In short, the value for money at this price is unbeatable! Five-star recommendation! 👍👍👍👍👍
Overall, a fantastic stay, but I do have a few suggestions to offer:
1. Only the door could be opened for ventilation in the room; the windows didn't open. It would be great if there was a way to allow for cross-ventilation.
2. The hotel doesn't provide parking vouchers. While overnight parking was only 20 yuan, offering vouchers would enhance the guest experience.
3. Perhaps due to concerns about some guests occupying a room with too many people, I was repeatedly asked during check-in how many individuals were staying in our room, which I found a bit off-putting.

GGuest UserOverall, the hotel was good. First, the room location suggestion I made to the front desk was respected, which demonstrates excellent service. Second, the room was spacious and clean, which is acceptable unless you're a nitpicker. Summer is a busy season, so the cleaning lady is understandably busy. (The only minor issues I noticed upon arrival were a hair on the towel and a poorly wiped tabletop.) Third, the toilet was smart, there was a humidifier, and the TV had a mirrored screen (I don't recommend using the humidifier; the room was foggy the next day, almost as hazy as if the PM2.5 levels were excessive). The breakfast was generally decent. Overall, it was a good stay. I extended my stay for another night and would have if they hadn't sold out. However, the mattress was a little too soft, and the quilt felt a bit like paper, which wasn't very comfortable. I compared this to another hotel (Wanda Meihua) and found the mattress at the Wanda Meihua to be just the right firmness, the pillows comfortable, not too soft, and the quilt to be a bit more comfortable.

GGuest UserI've stayed at Jianguo Puyin hotels in several cities, and this one has the worst service. On my first night, I called to report that my toilet was clogged. They sent someone to unblock it, and I saw that person report it to engineering. The next day, I was out sightseeing, so I don't know if anyone came to fix it. By the third morning, the toilet was completely blocked, and water was leaking all over the bathroom floor. At this point, the front desk said they'd help me deal with it. I was literally about to check out! What's the point of fixing it then? So frustrating.

AAnonymous UserThis hotel is located within the ancient city walls and has its own restaurant, serving a good breakfast. I booked a Ryan twin room this time, which had an external window that could be opened – great for when it got too warm at night. The hotel is just across the street from Huayan Temple and isn't far from popular spots like Xijin Dao, Fengling Pavilion, and Zini 369, making it super convenient for getting around. They even offered extra bottles of water at check-in. The cleaning staff not only tidied up but also folded my pajamas, which was a lovely touch.

BBarbara85The hotel was well located. The room exactly like it was described online. We reserved two rooms without windows for one day it was cost efficient! Unfortunately I could not reserve directly 4 breakfast online only two (one per room), we have to pay directly at breakfast for the two others one.
We stop at Datong to visited one of UNESCO site and see the all Datong city. We thought more foreigners will visit this beautiful small city. No one speaks English (and that’s ok) but for a 4 stars hotel the front desk lady looks a bit lost with the check in procedure for foreigners (and I work in a 5 stars hotel in beijing so I know the procedure as a French working in China). Also, the isolation is bad, the front desk already inform us upon check in but we did not thought we will heard even the other room bathrooms flush. Thank you for this night your hotel is beautiful

GGuest UserThe location of the hotel is perfect. It is the right place to stay when visiting the Hanging Temple and Jin Temple. The room and bed are large, especially suitable for bringing children. It is no problem for a family of three to stay in a big bed. The bathroom is separated into dry and wet areas. The breakfast is also very good. Overall, it is very cost-effective.

RRichard76ukThis weekend, I had the pleasure of staying at the Great Palace Hotel in Datong, and I must say it was an incredible experience from the moment we arrived. The staff were exceptionally friendly and welcoming, checking us in quickly and even upgrading us to the best available room. To our surprise, we were greeted with a thoughtful welcome that included a fresh fruit basket, traditional Chinese soup, and complimentary tea.
The hotel offers an impressive breakfast selection, catering to both local and international tastes. The rooms are spacious, spotlessly clean, and the beds are incredibly comfortable—making it easy to unwind after a day of sightseeing.
This was my second time staying at the Great Palace Hotel, and once again, it exceeded expectations. Its location is ideal—right in the heart of the city, close to all major tourist attractions and just a few kilometers from the train station. Special thanks to Manager 崔经理, who was exceptionally kind and helpful throughout our stay. I would wholeheartedly recommend this hotel to anyone visiting Datong.
What truly sets this hotel apart is the attention to detail and the genuine hospitality of the staff. Whether you’re a first-time visitor or returning guest, the service remains consistently high. The atmosphere strikes the perfect balance between traditional charm and modern comfort, making it a reliable choice for both leisure and business travelers. Wwill_s384Nice hotel but had issues with air conditioning and service.
We booked the windowless room - as we assumed there would be aircon to cool it down - however we arrived and it was incredibly stuffy - and the aircon only made it warmer.
We asked at the front desk and they said they’d send someone up to have a look - however all they did was give us some water bottles and the wifi password - which didn’t really help with the aircon! - i think this was an issue with the language barrier moreso than anything else.
The room was 30°C (despite it only being about 12°C outside) so it was difficult to sleep or relax.
Aside from that it was a nice hotel with a cool exterior and comfy beds.
Breakfast cost ~£2 however the buffet selection wasn’t very big and there was no coffee - but the food tasted good.
Good location, but if we were to stay here again we would certainly book a room with a window.
