Hotels Near Gracie Mansion in New York

I stayed originally at this Hilton Garden Inn back in December 2017 (apologies for not leaving a review then!), and we had such a pleasant experience we did decide to come back the next time we visited NYC. The best thing about this Hilton Garden Inn is the close location to both Queens Plaza (literally 20 seconds walk away if you pick the correct subway entrance) and Queensboro Plaza (a little further, but only a few minutes walk) subway stations to get you into Manhattan within 10-15 minutes. This alone makes it so worth the price!! When I go on city breaks, my thing is to find hotels a little further out of the center but close to public transport links and it makes a huge difference in value - this is the absolute perfect fit to this rule for those who don't mind staying out of the center of Manhattan. In addition, I have never felt unsafe in the area that the Hotel is located in too, it's a busy public road very close to the hotel (you can't hear this from the room) so you're never in a quiet area alone if you're walking at night from the Subway. This is not a 5-star hotel so if you're looking for this it may not be your thing, but it is I think one of the best value hotels that can be found in the whole of New York City! When you compare the price of this hotel to other similar hotels in Manhattan, this can be purchased at sometimes more than half the price of other similar (and worse) hotels that in central Manhattan, and does seem to be one of the cheaper ones located outside Manhattan too, but the cheaper price doesn't mean a lack of quality when compared with others! The rooms (from memory) hadn't changed between our two stays in 2017 and 2023 (and do seem older than this) so perhaps could be doing with an update, but they are large rooms and ours had a small sofa located at the end of the room too - beds very comfy. Unfortunately, the air con didn't work our first evening so it was stuffy on the first night, however we didn't bother to raise this as we were so jet lagged from our flight and I'm more than confident the team would've have resolved this for us if we did! Thankfully, it worked the rest of our stay so the room was extremely comfortable after this time. We were located on the 11th floor (I think), and apart from one day where one of the two lifts were broken, we didn't have to spend long waiting for the lifts and got from reception to our room in a few short moments. The reception/lobby/breakfast area seems to have been updated between our stays in 2017-2023, is modern and clean with a large bar area too if required. We didn't have breakfast there or food so can't comment on the food offering. We stayed due to a planned engagement in NYC (she said yes!) and we did tell the Reception Team about this (apologies, we can't remember the woman's name) to see if there was anything they could do as a congratulations, just a simple message in the room for example - she did say leave it with her. The West Side YMCA is definitely a no frills place to stay, but the location is excellent. You're right next to Central Park and Columbus Circle. Times Square is an easy walk south. We stayed in 2 different rooms. The first had a bunk bed and was quite small, but the bed was comfy and the room was clean. It also had a small TV and fridge. We had a semi-private bathroom, which was down the hall. This meant we had to scan our key on one of the bathroom doors to get in, but once inside we had privacy while we got cleaned up. The bathrooms were kept clean and tidy. We were able to upgrade the second half of our stay to a room with a larger bed and an in room bathroom. Again, this hotel is no frills. It can be rough around the edges, but it's clean and comfortable at the end of a long day of sightseeing. We did not have time to take advantage of the gym, the pool, the sauna, and stuff like that, but they looked nice. I'd recommend the West Side YMCA. If you're visiting NYC, you should be out doing stuff, not sitting around the room. It was everything we needed it to be.

I booked at Nap York Central park in June 2022 for September/October 2022. I chose the discounted flexible rate, as I didn’t see having to cancel or move my dates at all - my flight was paid for. Earlier this month my father suffered a stroke, was diagnosed with cancer, and was told he was in need of an operation on his heart. His quality of living went from active and healthy to in need of 24/7 care overnight. I contacted this property to see if even though the flexible option was non-refundable if there might be some leniency with this as I don’t see being able to travel in the near future, even at a partial refund (mostly for the $500 I already paid to be used for medical bills/needs). You cannot actually call or speak to anyone - they do not have phones. You can only communicate through a chat service. They don’t provide any details as to who you are talking to and my questions as to whether there is a management company I might reach out to were unanswered, and then I was just told ‘we don’t have phones’. After explaining my situation, they let me know they would not refund anything but would move the dates. According to my original booking, I would have six months to reschedule. Speaking to someone through the chat service, I was only given four months to reschedule and many dates blocked out and unavailable to me due to holidays. I pointed out that it was less time than my original booking stated and that went unaddressed, the person let me know that ‘my situation’ (my father possibly terminally ill) ‘was not their responsibility’ and they wouldn’t refund my payment or add any dates (which really would have just been giving me what I should have anyway, not exactly doing me any extra favors) and again - all questions as to whether there is an actual number or company to contact with questions was not provided. While I understand my original request for a refund was outside of the original terms, they don’t even offer the terms that are paid for and clearly stated. I’ve also worked at hotels and lodges in the past to know that they often make allowances for nonrefundable stays in cases of extreme circumstances. Booking.com reached out to try to negotiate and the only response they received was ‘no refund’. I’ve also had travel plans in the past change slightly and have been out money and have not asked for special accommodations or refunds from locations, but with the stress of my father’s health and rising costs, and so suddenly, I was looking for some empathy here. United Airlines is notorious for delayed customer service or non-negotiable refunds and I was able to explain my situation and received a full refund immediately. After some of the language used by whoever manages their chat service, I wouldn’t stay at this location at this point. I've attached some of the reviews on google, as well as management's insane responses (including taunting people about calling the police, or pointing out they don't speak English).

I just stayed at the Motto in Times Square for the weekend, and had a great experience. First, let me say that I was born and raised in NYC (I live about 30 miles north of NYC now), so I know the NYC area very well, and it was such a joy to experience the city as a ”tourist” for the weekend. The hotel is in a great location near Times Square, where access to public transportation is very easy, as well as to restaurants, and Broadway shows. The hotel is very efficient and modern. The rooms are cozy, and very comfortable. The service is excellent, and the breakfast menu is delicious. I very much enjoyed my stay at the Motto in Times Square.

Hotel location is right at the heart of times square! Free internet comes with the room. They give you food and beverage credits that you can use at the 8f restaurant.

It can be said that this small hotel has everything except no elevator. The room comes with slippers. The air conditioner is not a window machine after all. It is very quiet and the bed is very comfortable. Although the room is small, there is a safe and a refrigerator. , the most important thing is the excellent location, it only takes less than 5 minutes to walk to Times Square! The front desk staff will also deliver luggage to the room. If you don’t have elderly children, I highly recommend this hotel!

We were so pleased to stay at the Best Western even without any reservation. The hotel was clean, comfortable and everyone was kind and professional. The breakfast was delicious and I recommend it. We encountered a very pleasant employee by the name of Angelique. She literally made us feel at home and that’s what every visitor appreciates. The price was affordable especially in this time which is hard to find. So we give this hotel 5 stars which we rarely do.

The best hotel I ever stayed at. They were extremely nice (cheerful and funny) staff and they were very accommodating. Especially Jessica and Annalie. They went above and beyond. I received a gift bag of goodies for my birthday and I was super touched and happy. No hotel has ever done that for me, and I’ve been to many hotels across the country. The room was quiet and large and very comfortable. Love the bed. The amenities were great and the sushi restaurant next door was awesome.

Location is the greatest advantage of this hotel. Less than 1 min by walk from Yellow R & W Subway Whitehall South Station Exit. This hotel has 40+ floors, but 3 guest lifts only. Long waiting time for lift was annoying. The air-conditioning unit was noisy, as it started on/off intermittently all the time. The shower room is tiny, it was just enough room for an adult to turn around the body. The design of shower room glass door was poor, as the bathroom floor would get wet when open the glass door.

We were at this hotel for one night. There was a power failure which affected the hotel, and of course, this was not the hotel's fault, although it did result in inconvenience and discomfort to our stay. In addition, some guests were having a noisy party just outside the front entrance which was loud enough to keep me awake in the middle of the night -- our room was a few floors up overlooking the party. I felt that we deserved either compensation or credit for a future stay at a Hilton property, so I went to speak to the manager in the morning. However, there was a long line of people waiting to complain to the manager, and we had to leave, so I didn't get to speak with him. I subsequently emailed the manager 3 times to ask for compensation and he never replied. I called 5 times and the manager was supposedly never there. Finally, I spoke to the assistant manager. He listened attentively assured me that someone would get back to me. That was two weeks ago. I am very disappointed in this poor customer service and unprofessional behavior of their managerial staff.
