Sala Lodges in the enchanting city of Siem Reap is nothing short of a hidden gem that boasts not only of charming aesthetics but also of exceptional service that made our stay unforgettable. Nestled quietly away, this hotel provided a tranquil retreat that was much needed during our travel. The service at Sala Lodges was commendable, embodying the true spirit of hospitality. The staff were attentive, approachable, and consistently willing to assist us in organizing our trips around Siem Reap, making the overall experience hassle-free and enjoyable. A special shoutout to the Swiss owners who were genuinely amiable and made us feel warmly welcomed. As for the accommodations, the rooms in Sala Lodges were a delightful surprise. Each room bore discrete charm with its tasteful decoration, seamlessly blending traditional and contemporary elements. The authentic Khmer old houses are full of charm, yet modern and well preserved. The hotel’s kitchen offered a menu that might seem simple at a glance but was satisfyingly delightful upon tasting. Every dish we tried was prepared well, with fresh ingredients and flavors that are comforting yet exciting to the palate. The breakfast, in particular, deserves an extra note of praise for being consistently good, providing a delightful start to our days of exploration. Adding to the hotel’s allure was the inviting swimming pool, serving as a refreshing sanctuary after a day of touring the magical temples and vibrant markets of Siem Reap. During the wet season, the atmosphere around Sala Lodges was even more calming and soothing, with the soft sound of rain providing a comforting backdrop to our stay. To sum it up, our experience at Sala Lodges was nothing short of magical. From the excellent service to the beautifully appointed rooms and delightful meals, every aspect of the hotel contributed to a stay that was serene, comfortable, and absolutely enjoyable. Whether you’re traveling in the wet season or not, Sala Lodges offers a cosy retreat that will surely enhance your Siem Reap adventure. Highly recommended!

I stayed for two nights. Even though I had a reservation, I had to wait to check in. When I finally got to my room, there was a gap under the entrance door where I could see outside. The curtain rod was slanted, and there were three small dead cockroaches near the window. The front desk did change my room, moving me to the one directly below. This new room was decent. However, if I hadn't been with a friend, it would have been quite awkward, as the layout meant you were almost completely exposed when stepping out of the shower. What really surprised me was on the last night. I came back to the room in the evening, with my luggage somewhat spread out, went to dinner, and returned to find clear signs that someone had been in the room (a cake, fruit, and water had been replenished) even though it wasn't for cleaning. It was unsettling that someone entered without permission for reasons other than cleaning. Finally, with little time left for sightseeing, I was made to fill out a checkout survey. When I went back to get my luggage, I was questioned about my negative feedback based on the issues I mentioned above, with a 'Why? Tell us why?' attitude. They offered me an apology and some sweets, but I didn't accept them. It left a really bad taste in my mouth at the end of my trip. I will definitely not stay here again.

I stayed here for a week and really enjoyed the female dorm room. The common area was spacious, so I never had to worry about not having enough space to organize my luggage. Each bed had a shelf for personal items and a lockable locker, which was very convenient for travelers. My favorite part was the shower and toilet area; they always had pleasant music playing, which I thoroughly enjoyed during my stay.

You can tell this hotel was once very nice. Unfortunately things have started to show wear and tear. The furniture in the lobby was older with very noticeable stains. The room itself was good. My only complaint about the room was the plug for the bed was in the middle of the headboard at pillow level and had a light switch next to the plug. This kept me from being able to plug my phone charger in at the bed because it was too wide and hit the switch. Also, if I was not careful and hit the switch while rolling over at night, the lights would come on and be very bright. I did order a massage through the hotel which they outsource. The first lady did not want to massage me as I am a larger guy, so I had to wait an additional ~10 minutes for the replacement to get there. The last complaint I have is that I purchased a pool view room and the trees and plants have grown up so high 90% of the view is blocked. Pros: The staff is very friendly and helpful. The location is good. Main parts of the city are walkable (Less than 30 minutes). Plenty of tuktuks if you don't want to walk. While older, the rooms were clean. The hot water was HOT.

Great location and service was excellent. Some rooms are facing a school next door, so there is quite some noise from pupils. Breakfast wasn't buffet per se, but selection of menu items. But one can order as much as one likes. So it's like all you can eat.

The room felt airy and generously sized, soft lighting, and a fresh, clean scent that made it immediately inviting. The staff were warm and attentive, greeting guests with genuine smiles and making early check-in possible as soon as rooms were available. The location was hard to beat, right in the middle of a lively area packed with restaurants, cafés, bars, shops, and banks just steps away. We only had a difficulities to connect with the hotel Wi-Fi during our stay.

There were almost no insects by the pool. I was surprised. Very clean. Even after checking out, you can still use the pool or shower. It was really helpful for me to be able to use it. All the employees are friendly and have refreshing smiles. The owner I'm from France, so there were a lot of French users. The fried rice for breakfast was also delicious.

We were welcomed with complimentary juice and snacks upon arriving at the hotel. They had a scent reminiscent of Cambodia and were delicious. The room was cozy and comfortable. The hotel offered a variety of tours, which could be booked at the front desk by the day before, making it very convenient. We joined two tours arranged by the hotel, and both were fantastic. The price was also reasonable. Overall, we were very satisfied with both the services and the cost.

4-Star Luxury Hotel for the Backpacker Price of $40/night! The first thing you notice about Sokha Palace Siem Reap Hotel is just how pretty it is! The architect, painters, decorators and maintenance staff did a fabulous job (see my photos). The second thing you notice is how delicious the huge buffet is – including free espresso drinks. Third, you notice that the rooms are not only nice but that everything works well (aircon, hot water showers, refrigerator, wifi, and cable TV with news channels from a half dozen countries like CNN). Fourth, it is in a quiet location less than 15 minutes from Angkor Wat, and only a $2 tuktuk ride to Pub Street or anywhere else in Siem Reap. But then you notice the best part: the outstanding hotel staff. For example, the Front Desk Manager Phyrun personally helped me when I could not make my room keycard work, and even brought me a bucket of ice. Originally I booked five nights during Chinese New Year with Trip.com discounts for $39/night, but he gave me a free upgrade from a garden view double with king bed to a pool view room. I liked it so much I wanted to extend, but the best I could find online was $41/night garden view, $51 for pool view. I asked Phyrun if I could get the upgrade again if I bought the $41 online, and he said no – but he smiled and said he would give it to me for $40/night the Khmer rate instead (normally $50 for barangs like me)! The restaurant had other examples of great staff. Some days the restaurant is overflowing with several hundred guests, other days only a few dozen. Yet they maintain the quality and personal touch from the egg and soup station, to the bountiful buffet, to the waiters and waitresses that clear the tables. The Restaurant Manager Somedy and his Assistant Manager Chhaiya keep it all flowing smoothly. Even on the busiest day, waitress Chanthla took the time to show my Khmer friend’s elderly stepmom the way they fold the napkins. Today the espresso machine was not working for a while, so Chhaiya offered to have a waiter drive over to the sister hotel to bring me lattes. I repeatedly declined, but was very impressed by the excellent customer service attitude. So the real beauty of this French chateau style hotel is its employees, including very efficient housekeeping and grounds staff. I checked out the “5-Star” Sokha Resort on the other side of its convention center, but did not like it half as much (especially for 70% more per night). Normally I would be afraid to write a review of a hotel that I like so much, but with 456 rooms I don’t have to worry about it being full. Do yourself a favor and stay here when in Siem Reap.
