Takayama Ouan Reviews

This hotel exceeded our expectation! It is very near the Nohi Bus station and the JR Takayama station (3-5 min walk). Although we just stayed overnight, we had a memorable experience in Takayama Ouan. The hotel has a lot of freebies for their guests. They have a booth in the lobby where guests can get free brewed coffee, hot tea, and green lemon iced tea. They also provide free socks since the hotel have tatami flooring. What we also loved about this hotel is the onsen (separate public onsen for male and female, and 3 private onsen). They also have a freezer where guests can get free iced cream after bathing. During past 9 pm, they also have free ramen for their guests. The room is spacious, and the view from our window is also nice (the roads and establishments covered with snow). Aside from the free stuff and great amenities, we also appreciate the kind and friendly staff members. We accidentally lost the luggage claim tag (and we are willing to pay for it) but they didn't charge us anything. When we go back to Takayama, we will definitely stay here again.

Location was nearby a train station. Onsen have 3 types of private rooms to choose. The public onsen are much better in my opinion. Breakfast was good, with a variety of choices. Stayed for 2 nights. Recommended.

Wonderfully located. Within walking distance from shopping, dining attractions. Love the onsen facilities. Even the onsen for legs soaking at the entrance of the hotel. Highly recommended

This hotel is centrally located, just next to the Mercure. You leave your shoes in a locker and walk along the common areas barefooted or wearing socks. It's quite a hassle putting on shoes in the reception area to leave the hotel. The drawback of this system is that some guests remove the shoe cabinet keys when they check out. There's a pair of sandals in the room which you wear when you go to the toilet. This is different from other hotels in Japan where you can wear the sandals around the hotel. The onsen area is certainly superior. Photo is the view from my room.

The location of the hotel is excellent, only 5 mins walk from JR station. The hotel is embraced with Japanese traditional culture, when you walk inside the entire hotel, no shoes are allowed. The check in and checkout process are done by machine. It is not enough human-touched. The size of the room is okay and the view is very good.

Very clean, with free late night snack, satisfying breakfast

Too crowded. I had high expectations after reading great reviews, but it was very crowded and waiting for elevators was painful. Room condition was not great, private onsen has very long que to use.

Clean hotel with nice Japanese style rooms. Bath facilities are well maintained

Good stay for 2 nights. Short walk from train station. Staff and room were very good. The pillow was poor! But absolutely adequate hotel. Great breakfast too.

Location is a bit far from old town Stay 6 nights but breakfast is the same

Room was pretty spacious by Japanese standards. I enjoyed that they offered three private onsens that you could use at no additional cost with no reservation required. Free ice cream is available after your bath. There are hotels closer to JR Takayama Station but it’s still a reasonable walking distance.

Wow 🤩 so impressed with hotel ryokan decoration style: yukata, private&public onzen, tatami. Couldn’t ask for more. I will definitely bring my kids with me next time. Love 💕 💕

Super cozy hotel with a really comfy Japanese style room. I liked that I had a nice view of the city in the mountains. Staff was nice enough. Great amenities. Enjoyed the in-house onsen with indoor and outdoor tubs and a cold plunge. I The only negative I experienced was after a late night bath for about an hour was the sink and make up area floor was full of hair. . Long, dark hair from the blow drying was all over the floor. No one had checked the facility in the hour plus that I was there. to clean it in the hour that I was there.
