Find the Cheap Currie Hotels

We stayed at the Riccarton Inn for three nights in July as we were attending a wedding at the nearby Free Company.  After originally booking a city centre hotel we decided to look at something a little closer and found The Riccarton which looked to be nearby, with nice rooms and at a good price. Before booking we contacted the venue via FaceBook to see if there were any room suggestions and we were told that rooms 1, 2 & 5 are double rooms but they suggested room 1 as the best pick out of the three if it was available…… it was, so we booked it. Getting to the venue was relatively easy, it was a 15 ish minute walk from Currie Hill train station although the majority was uphill so probably not the best route to take if you have reduced mobility.  There is a bus stop just over the road from the venue and if you catch the 44 from the city centre it drops you right there (the bus stop right outside the venue, i.e. on the same side of the road, takes you back into the centre on the 44 bus.  Buses are easy with TapTapCap so you can use your debit / credit card or device (always use the same card or device to make sure the cap applies).  A single journey is £1.80 and it caps at £4.40 for a full days travel.  We said that the next time we stay at the venue we’d definitely finish our journey on the bus instead of the train.  Oh, the venue is also on the N44 route which is the night bus service, ideal if you go out for a few drinks and it saves on taxis.  There are a few different local taxi services as well as Uber, the couple of times we used a taxi we did use Uber in the end as they were actually cheaper and we found them a little more reliable. Check in was really simple, we didn’t prepay but the cost of the room was charged to the card we booked with on the morning before we arrived.  All we needed to do was pop a signature onto the booking confirmation at the bar and we were handed our keys, one for the main door to the venue (it gets locked at midnight so you can let yourself in) and one to the room.  We didn’t pre-request breakfast but we decided to add it on for two of the mornings and paid for it at the bar…….. I would highly recommend the breakfast, at £8.95 per person it is most definitely worth it (more on that later). The room itself (room 1) was a decent size, it had a very comfortable bed, a built-in closet and plenty of drawer space.  The en-suite bathroom had a good size bath with over bath power shower, toilet and wash basin… again all spotlessly clean.  The towels were really fluffy and properly dried you instead of just moving the water around which is always a good plus.  At night the room did get a little warm but as long as you don’t mind your window open and you leave the bathroom door and window open you do cool down a little.  There are tea/coffee making facilities in the room and a hairdryer is also provided.  The WiFi code is provided on a welcome card which we found in one of the drawers in the desk. We used this hotel following arrival at the airport from overseas and night prior to departure . It was ideal. Nice location, friendly staff. It was pleasant to walk around the wooded campus and neighborhoods of adjacent Herriot-Watt University. We will be back. ... I would note however, that some may feel the privacy in the bathroom is a bit compromised by the construction of the bathroom doors and side panels (opaque material which lets the light shine through, and large see-through cracks between the door and the adjacent wall - not completely private).

Stayed here prior to collecting guests from Edinburgh. It is the most amazing house, I believe George Gillespie built it for his mother in the 1790s(?) and you are staying in a family home, with the most amazing furniture, books, eclectic ornaments, but with all the home comforts. Huge, high bed in my room, I felt like a princess climbing into it, and slept wonderfully, waking up to birds. Kettle provided, my only gripe was a small cup, but then I mainline coffee in the morning! Breakfast was in a beautiful room, perfectly laid out, huge choice of cereal, fresh fruit, and the cooked breakfast was perfect. It was an easy walk into Colinton, ten minutes, and I imagine easy to get into Edinburgh. Small gates to get into the property, I didn’t want to tempt fate by trying to get my van through them, but lots of parking on the road outside. The host, whose name I didn’t get, was such a gentleman, I only wish I’d had more time to speak to him about the history of the house. Ten minutes walk to see the Colinton Tunnel which is Scotlands longest mural, well worth a visit. Absolutely recommend staying here, it’s beautiful with a gorgeous puppy and a cat that ignored me ;) clean, quiet, and you’re staying in a historical house that I wish I’d had more time to explore, especially all the books.

After staying in a number of hotels in Edinburgh, Novotel Edinburgh Park is definitely of highest quality in this price range. The location is perfect if you are working outside of the city but want to still experience the city centre at night. Edinburgh Park train station and tram stop are very close to the hotel with frequent services to neighbouring towns and Waverley station (city centre). The train is quickest to Waverley at only 9 mins and costs as little as £2.70 at super off peak times for a return ticket. The hotel rooms are spacious and clean. There are hundreds of channels on the 55” TVs. The beds are comfy and there is a temperature regulator fan (not air conditioning). The bathrooms are clean and well furnished. Executive rooms get some more toiletries than standard rooms. Some rooms have baths and some have stand-in showers. (Maybe you can note your preference when booking) Breakfast is definitely worth paying for. There’s a huge selection of food options, something for everyone. Hot food and continental style breakfast is offered and is a buffet style. The restaurant is large but can be very busy in the evenings. Car parking is offered at a member rate (Accor ALL account holders) of £6 per day. I would rate the hotel very highly, after staying here a number of times over the past few months and with more bookings in the not so distant future. I look forward to returning!

The location of the hotel is a bit far from the urban area. For those who like to play golf, this hotel is good, convenient, cheap to play, and you can rent clubs. The hotel room is not big and clean, and the waiters are friendly. You can only eat in the restaurant if you make an appointment in advance. You can order directly in the bar without making an appointment. It's good to enjoy the beautiful scenery while drinking beer.

Stayed here for two nights over the bank holiday weekend in August 2022. I'm guessing the price was high because of the fringe and it being a bank holiday weekend. The hotel was bright and breezy. no tea making facilities in the room. No hair dryer, limited storage, no draws. There was tea making facilities in the reception that were free and always available. Breakfast at the hotel was continental and £7.50 each. Quite reasonable for the offering of cereal, pastries, yoghurts, juice, ham and cheeses. Nice location opposite the tram station.

It was great 2 night stay, very close to the airport, helpful staff, beautiful surroundings, we saw cute bunnies around the grass area, very close to a mall about 5-7 min walk. The only a little bit inconvenient was there was no Air conditioner, there was a huge fan which helped a little bit, but it could’ve been better if there was an A/C. But as they say most hotels in Edinburgh does not have AC because it’s always a pleasant weather. But there can be times (not all the time) a warmer weather comes and an AC would be good.
