No toilet roll in room on arrival or in WC in reception. Tv remote broken, therefore no tv, couldn’t turn it up/down or channel over or off! ..shower dispenser broken, bins not emptied in bathroom. Previous occupants sock & rubbish left in room. Holes in curtains, shabby, not like photos at all. Spider on a web on table.. No tea bags or sugar in room, had to go down to breakfast to get some as soon as woke up! Breakfast basic, mouldy bread which was sent back, one 2 slice toaster, tables piled with dirty plates. Hardly any staff to be seen. The staff we did see had scruffy shirts on, no proper uniform. The reception table was like a pasting table. There was problems with the lift so we took stairs. The only good thing to say is location if you can see out of the filthy windows & the bed was big & comfortable.

Easy to find and good location however after a hectic day the greeting from the receptionist was less than welcoming. He was on the phone to someone and continued with his conversation without acknowledgement or comment. Asked for my ID to which I replied I didn't know I need to provide one especially as paid directly with travel agent and is not necessary. He told me no I'd you not stay I will cancel booking. I said all I'm saying is it would be nice to know beforehand and should be in the confirmation email. It got heated. Finally got my keys. No lift and on top floor. No offer of assistance. Room adequate and comfortable for price paid. Receptionist came and apologised which was appreciated.
All. In all a comfortable stay but unlikely to return

We’ve just got home from a very enjoyable, excellent value, two night stay at the New Wilmington. It doesn’t pretend to be a rival to the Savoy, but nonetheless deserves its Five Star Review here. Our (refurbished??) room, and public areas were very comfortable and carefully clean, neat and tidy. The management and staff were always attentive and friendly. If the biggest fault was that the shower perhaps lacked some power, then you know that the rest of it was pretty damn good. The Full English Breakfast was lovely, and got the days off to flying starts. Thank you.

We stayed for 3 nights as a family with children under the age of 6 and had the best time. The hotel service is exceptional, every need was met. As soon as we arrived we were greeted by the valet who helped us park the car and take our bags. They reserved our space for us with a board for the whole stay. The children received a kids backpack with hat, yo-yo and colouring in. We went straight down to the health club to the indoor pool. When we came out the reception said our room was now ready and collected the keys for us. Our room was a junior suite, it spotless and sizeable with drinks provided on ice and slippers for everyone. In the evening the children could order complimentary milk and cookies which they loved. The outdoor pool was heated and lovely when the sun was out, this was end of may/June. There also was a waiter serving drinks outside. The breakfast was amazing, great selection and the kids loved have every meal served with a cloche and countdown reveal. The added extras on the service make this a wonderful hotel. The positives far outweigh the negatives, I guess it could do with some new carpets and some new upholstery but the charm of the old building supersedes this and although old it was very clean. The bed mattress was ok, quite soft. The sofa bed wasn’t very comfortable but ok for young children. We will be back again!! Thank you

Me and my daughter stayed at this hotel for a weekend get away...The hotel is on seafront and pleasant....but what made it was 100% the staff...so friendly so helpful...nothing is a problem...bearing in mind...its a hotel not a bnb...but yet...they provide a complementary breakfast bag...the night receptionist...was such a lovely friendly guy....but so was all staff. We shall definitely return....

My partner and I stayed for a night. Arrived rather late and the staff were still up waiting for us. Acknowledged us by name and showed us up to our sea-facing room. Clean, well furnished, minimalist modern and spacious feel. Woke up to a fantastic unblocked sea view in our large window.
Breakfast was available to all in the kitchen/ pantry from 7.30-10 with a more than decadent spread of your staples, hot fresh brewed tea and coffee.
Minor drawback was the slightly longer walking distance from the city (about 15mins), no toothbrush available, and had I not read up online ahead of time, I’d never be able to find the place as there is (as many others have also mentioned) no clear sign that says “The Halcyon”.
So to anyone to follow in our steps, this is honestly a beautiful place to stay. Excellent value for money away from the noise of the town centre, wonderful hospitable staff for a lovely guest experience, delightful & scrumptious brekkie, cosy and clean modernistic rooms & gorgeous views to wake up to. No hassle checking in or out.
Just be mindful to look out for the big words that says “HOTEL” and you’re very likely at the right spot. (Checkout photos 1&2) Walk in without fear and be greeted by warm smiles and a fantastic experience all around.

GGuest UserWe were checked in for a two night stay and were given 3 rooms in total due to our horrific stay. The first room we were given was absolutely filthy! We requested a new room which we were given and only got worse from there. At 2:30 am we were woken up in discomfort and itchy, only to get up and investigate the bed and find multiple bed bugs across the bed and pillows. It was horrific!!!! The bites I have received were disgusting and what was even more upsetting and disappointment was the reaction of the staff. We were moved to another room at 3am and were told to complain to the day staff in the morning which we did. They only offered us a complimentary breakfast and 10% off our stay which was only £10.30. £10.30 after all we endured during our stay is laughable!!!! If only we could upload videos of the bed bugs we took, the pictures do not do it justice at all. NEVER EVER STAY AT THIS HOTEL. Especially if you value your peace, sanity and skin.

GGuest UserSo this place was extremely disappointing! To say dated is being polite. We had booked a 4 night stay. Firstly we arrived and my husband had ti go find parking down a busy main road which you have to pay extra for daily. I took myself to the room only to find the smallest room I've ever seen with the smallest window, it was no bigger than a broom cupboard with the smallest window and it was so hot! There was no fan! I found out later that you have to ask for a fan! Why not leave them in the room when it's hot? It's been the hottest summer. As soon as my husband arrived, he was also little shocked and how small the room was so I called down to reception to find out if they had any bigger rooms and maybe a sea view and luckily there was one avaliable. Of we was staying just a night then I would have made the best of it. It cost another £80 for the upgrade. We went through to the bigger room with a sea view and the lady on reception brough us a fan! It becomes apparent how dated this hotel really is when the pillows on the bed are like rocks. The mattress protector is just old throws layer under the sheets. The bed was two singles pushed together and two single duvets. The beds are old and lumpy. Bearly slept over the 4 nights. The bathroom was terrible! I'm 5ft 3in and the shower over the bath was too low for me. There was hardly any water pressure. There was stains in the old tin like bath. The toilet roll was a tissue paper dispenser. Some random tiles place over the old white tiles over toilet which looked so out of place. Nowhere to put anything in the bathroom. I won't even start with the off coloured grouting. Two plugs in the whole room so had to keep uploading things whenever we used the kettle! One evening when we returned I went to use the small lift and it was full of cleaning stuff! Another occasion when leaving the room we nearly feel over the cable to the hoover which was plugged across our door and the cable was about a foot of the floor and cleaning supplies all over the floor! This hotel has nothing, no charm, no personal touches. With so many hotels in Eastbourne you'd think you'd want to stand out but I don't think anyone's cared about this place since the 80s. I don't tend to complain but for the price it wasn't worth it, you are paying for the location and not a decent room. The lady who upgraded us was lovely, she was the only good point to this place. I did laugh at the ”no smoking in this vehicle” sticker on the bath of the bathroom door.

GGuest UserNeeded a room at the last minute and it was the only one available .... looking at the reviews I know why! However we did not experience some of these issues. No homeless around so don’t know if the hotel are still accommodating them anymore. We were upgraded to a sea view twin 227 which was an added bonus. The room was just repainted white so gave a fresh feel but you could see it was a quick refurb job. Furniture very dated and worn. No plug sockets near the mirror to do hair/makeup and you need to take your own hairdryer. I did get one from Reception. The beds were really comfy and although we were on the front with windows open we had a quiet nights sleep. There is free wifi and tea and coffee in room which was helpful. The sink is tiny in the really small toilet so filling the kettle is impossible. No catering facilities as the restaurant is closed but we didn’t need it..... don’t know why ! The lift is not working and this is said to be down to covid but don’t know how true this is tbh ! The place needs updating and would I go back ? Prob not because I couldn’t guarantee I would get a sea view room which I wouldn’t pay £154 for ! Their own website is not a true reflection of the hotel at this time. There is no mention of the restaurant being closed which might be an issue for some.

GGuest UserEasy to find and good location however after a hectic day the greeting from the receptionist was less than welcoming. He was on the phone to someone and continued with his conversation without acknowledgement or comment. Asked for my ID to which I replied I didn't know I need to provide one especially as paid directly with travel agent and is not necessary. He told me no I'd you not stay I will cancel booking. I said all I'm saying is it would be nice to know beforehand and should be in the confirmation email. It got heated. Finally got my keys. No lift and on top floor. No offer of assistance. Room adequate and comfortable for price paid. Receptionist came and apologised which was appreciated.
All. In all a comfortable stay but unlikely to return

Due to a glitch, the dates I had chosen changed when I minimised the screen to find a promo code, and I didn't realise until the booking was confirmed. Saw immediately the error and went onto Live Chat. Advisor was very helpful and said the hotel's policy was no penalty if amended within 10 minutes. I had started the conversation within 3 minutes, so no problem. I was put on hold whilst Hotels.com contacted the hotel. Unfortunately that conversation was disconnected whilst on hold. The 2nd advisor picked up where the first left off but this time the hotel said no as 10 minutes had now passed. How ridiculous is that? The advisor at Hotels.com escalated this to a manager at the hotel, but still they would not honour their own policy. The Hotels.com advisor was brilliant and gave me a voucher to the value of the booking and they took the hit. The OYO Marine Parade Hotel have no integrity and I would not attempt to book with them again.

GGuest UserHotel is in a great position with only a road between it and the sea.Parking in the road outside is by permit which you can buy at reception for £2 per day.If you have a blue badge parking is free.Free parking is also available in lots of side streets but in high season could be tricky. To get into the hotel you have to climb 5 very steep steps so if you have mobility problems this is not the hotel for you.There are also steps inside to get to the dining room.There are two very small lifts which can help you miss out some of the stairs but not all. The staff on reception were all very polite and knowledgable.We were a bit disappointed that there were no leaflets telling you where to go or what to do but the local tourist board are perhaps not up to speed after the winter. It is a very old building and upstairs is like a warren of one person wide corridors. As we were paying a very competitive price for our four day stay we had no great expectations for our room which was just as well.The bedroom was very small just large enough for a double bed single wardrobe and a dressing table with one chair.The bathroom also was very small with a tiny shower based on a high plinth which made it impossible for anyone not fully mobile to get into. However the bed was very comfortable and the bedding was clean and fresh.We were given plenty of clean towels and the tea,coffee etc were refilled daily. Renovations were ongoing whilst we were there so maybe our room was still to be done. The dining room staff were amazing ,efficient polite and speedy.Breakfast was the usual hotel fare with plentiful tea and coffee and hot food served to the table. The evening meal had four choices for each course definitely not cordon blue but perfectly edible.There was no opportunity to buy wine in the dining room but always a jug of water on the table and as much tea and coffee as you want. We would definitely stay here again but would ask about a room upgrade.

AA.A.BI recently stayed at Pearl & Pebbles Eastbourne in Eastbourne for one night and overall, it was a pleasant experience.
Firstly, I must commend the lovely staff, although our interactions were minimal, their warmth and hospitality were evident.
The room itself was clean and well-maintained, including the bathroom which was also fresh and tidy. However, my room was located right in front of the stairs on the second floor, which resulted in considerable noise disturbance until late at night, affecting my sleep quality.
On a brighter note, the bed was comfortable, and the presence of a desk and chair was a practical addition, making it easier for me to catch up on some work.
I particularly enjoyed the bathroom with its window, perfect for those who, like me, enjoy showering with a breeze of fresh air. Despite the compact size of the room, it was sufficient for a one-night stay.
Moreover, having a kettle, coffee, and tea in the room was a delightful bonus, adding to the comfort and convenience of the stay.
However, it was disappointing to find that the room lacked a safe, which would have added an extra layer of security for my belongings.
In summary, while my stay at Pearl & Pebbles Eastbourne had its drawbacks, including noise issues and the absence of a safe, the cleanliness, comfort of the bed, practical amenities, and the friendly staff made it a generally positive experience for my short stay in Eastbourne.

TTodemmyPleasant place! Convenient, free parking, reasonable cost. Young and old alike enjoy taking small trains in the park. Pleasant walk around the lake and wooded area, lots to see along the way. There are refreshments, clean toilets and plenty of outdoor seating on site. If you bring picnic items, the parking lot is close so you just need to ask for re-entry at the door so you don't have to run around with your basket.
