This place should be called a guesthouse and not a hotel. This is a budget accommodation co-located with an Indian restaurant downstairs. Don’t expect too much from this place or fully trust the pictures posted in their advertisement as elaborated below:
Dislikes:
(1) The reception is manned by a grouchy Indian boss who is neither helpful or friendly and his attitude sucks (eg. when I told him my room bar fridge is not working, he said there is nothing wrong and I just don’t know how to turn the fridge on)
(2) The lift lobby have a strong cockroach stench
(3) Room and furnitures are old and the bed sheets and bath towels look overused with obvious stains.
(4) The room power tripped 3x during my 2 nights stay when showering —> likely due to faulty instant water heater.
(5) The Wifi signals keep dropping and sometimes lagging
(6) The junior hotel staffs don’t really understand or speak simple English
(7) No bath or shampoo gels are provided and the toothbrushes are of very inferior quality
(8) No complimentary coffee provided in room except 2-3 “naked” tea bags (already taken out of package)
(9) Room bar fridge not working properly and turns off by itself after a few minutes
Likes:
(1) Great location beside the river and near to many street foods, eateries, night market and night life with girly pubs all within walking distance.,
(2) Budget accommodation with a reasonable room size and attached toilet, costing less than USD 20/night
(3) Aircon is cold and hot water showers still ok
(4) Quiet environment as my room has no windows
Conclusion: I would never recommend this place for fussy or discerning travellers, but for budget conscious tourists who really don’t mind putting up with all the **** I mentioned, for a cheaper accommodation.
I will rather pay a bit more and find a better hotel than this crappy accommodation, if I ever return to Phnom Pehn next time!
