Yuu 游 is an amazing ryokan. We (family of 4) had a very nice two nights' stay there. The Japanese style breakfast (you can choose western or Japanese, but obviously Japanese style is the winner) & dinner included in the package is simply amazing! And be sure to try Takayama Sake too. It goes so well with Hida beef:) just can't get enough.
To get there from Takayama JR station (bus station there too), be sure to board the bus that goes to ipposui. We didn't rent a car because we are not used to driving in snowy weather. But everyone working in Yuu is super friendly, even drives us for a short trip out...
And of course, the onsen is amazing too! Unfortunately stay there!

Guest UserThis hotel is super convenient for solo travelers, being close to both the train and bus stations. The room was incredibly clean and surprisingly spacious for a standard room in Japan – we could easily fit two large suitcases! The hotel's location is also great, close to popular attractions and restaurants.

The room design and comfort are excellent, perfectly blending with nature. The hot springs are outstanding and ideal for relaxation. However, there's a significant gap between Trip.com's booking service and Booking.com's. When I booked this hotel through *********** previously, there were detailed instructions for dinner reservations and bus station transfers, making check-in very smooth. This time, booking via Trip.com, it showed the reservation was made through an overseas agent. After the order was confirmed, there were no reminders about booking breakfast and dinner, nor any information about bus station transfers. This made check-in very inconvenient. It was raining heavily that day, and after arriving at Hirayu Bus Terminal, I contacted the hotel, only to be told they couldn't provide a pick-up service. I had to drag my luggage through the heavy rain and snow to walk to the hotel, getting completely soaked – a terrible experience. Luckily, I had stayed there before and could navigate my way by memory; it would have been extremely difficult for a first-time guest. Upon arrival, I was informed that dinner and next day's breakfast were unavailable as they needed to be booked 5 days in advance, a detail Trip.com failed to mention. I hope Trip.com can improve the quality of its overseas hotel booking services; relying solely on overseas agents to secure rooms is far from sufficient.

xcmttGreat location, within walking distance to many restaurants. They have their own paid parking, which is convenient for those traveling by car. The hot spring views must be beautiful during the day, and the facilities are very complete. Overall, a great experience!

Free parking — the car park is right in front of the hotel’s main entrance, very convenient for drivers.
The room was clean. The three‑bed room was enough for our family (2 adults, a 12‑year‑old, a 9‑year‑old, and a 5‑year‑old). Breakfast was good. The onsen was also nice and clean. They even provide complimentary popsicles after the onsen — my kids loved them.
The staff were very polite and helpful.
Overall, good value for money.

The hotel has a washing machine, and the bed is very spacious. It's a very new hotel, and there's a Seven Eleven right across the street. Parking spaces are limited, so you need to book in advance. Check-in and check-out are very efficient.

The assigned room was not the one I booked. Instead of East Wing with a mountain view, I got assigned to South Wing, not sure if it is a mountain view but definitely not what I expected (I will attach a photo). But generally, I still had a fantastic experience there. The location is great for me because it is near Shinhotaka Ropeway. The open air onsen was beautiful, I liked it a lot, and went every night. The food was fantastic too! I am not well versed with Japanese food culture, but basically it was the traditional course meal (only dinner) you probably will have in a decent Japanese restaurant. I am a vegetarian, the hotel is prepared for my diet every breakfast and dinner. I must say I am really amazed with their food culture and knife skill. Their front desk was helpful with my needs too like a nail cutter, plaster etc.

This hotel boasts an excellent location, right near the Shinhotaka Ropeway and directly across from the Black Bear Zoo. It's a fantastic value-for-money onsen hotel. Waking up, you're greeted with beautiful river and mountain views right outside the window, and there's a waterfall just a short walk from the hotel. They have numerous hot spring baths, and the mixed-gender bath is also great. The absolute best part was the dinner, which was a delicious kaiseki meal, and the Japanese-style breakfast was also very good. Overall, I'm extremely satisfied with this hotel.

I had a very relaxing three-night stay at Okada Ryokan. The service was excellent—staff were consistently warm and attentive, especially during meal times, which made the experience feel extra special. The food was simple and clean. I enjoyed it a lot but I was getting a little bored of it by the 5th meal. We added on a hida beef steak after seeing a few Japanese tourist ordering it. If you like fatty and soft beef, you should try it.
The public onsen is spacious, with four pools. The outdoor pool is big and quiet.
The room was comfortable and well heated for winter. The private onsen in the room was a highlight; it easily fits two people and was perfect for relaxing after a long day.
This ryokan is over 100 years old, with parts of the structure dating back around 150 years. For a building of that age, I’d say it’s been well maintained. A small part of me wish the bathroom could be newer and cleaner but I would be missing the whole point. Staying here truly feels like stepping back in time—it was a unique and memorable experience.
There are two local ski resorts within a 15-minute drive, and Takayama is about a 45-minute drive away.

I stayed with my two-year-old daughter and stayed in different Japanese-style hotels many times. This time I booked two hotels in Shinhotaka/Hirayu Onsen. This is the first one.
The location and view of the hotel are very good. The decoration is very good. Food is good. The front desk supervisor sister is also very good and hard-working. I would like to praise her. He also said that there are currently not enough staff to require tolerance. But some services are not in place. The hot spring pool and floors were not cleaned properly and there was a lot of moss. I almost slipped and fell several times! It was too dangerous and felt dirty. Perhaps to save money, the heating was not turned on in the passages and the entire public space was too cold. In addition, you can actually pull your luggage into the room from outside. . I was worried about the tatami mats in the passageway I came all the way to. . There are also concerns about overall hygiene. People have to take off their shoes when entering the hotel, but wheels are not required 😂
Two waiters in the restaurant. One can also make the other girl keep a straight face the whole time. When the small basin was dirty and I asked for it to be replaced, I was told ”No” - I don't know what kind of Japanese service this is.
In addition, the hotel (the day I stayed) was mostly occupied by foreign guests. . The menu is also in English in Japanese format (haha!). It is estimated that this restaurant mainly caters to Western customers, but it is not a traditional Japanese service.
