We originally didn’t book a lake view room because we knew we would be checking in quite late and leaving early the next morning, so we thought we wouldn’t have enough time to enjoy the view. To our surprise, the hotel upgraded us to a lake view room. It was such a thoughtful gesture, and we were able to wake up to the most beautiful lake view before we left. It made our short stay feel really special. Since we visited in winter and arrived late in the evening, we were also so grateful that the room had already been warmed up before our arrival. Walking into a cozy, warm room after the cold outside was incredibly welcoming. Thank you for your thoughtful hospitality. We would definitely love to stay here again!"

"This was the worst hotel I stayed in on my New Zealand trip, yet I paid the most for a room. The cleanliness was appalling; all the positive reviews were rubbish. The only redeeming quality was its location by Lake Taupo, offering beautiful views. The mattresses were incredibly soft and of poor quality, and the cleanliness was abysmal, especially the unusable bathroom. Hotel, please be more careful! The air conditioning was also intermittently malfunctioning, and the staff were extremely unhelpful. This hotel is only worth a $200 guesthouse."

"I had a great stay at this hostel, and it definitely exceeded my expectations. The common areas were clean, comfortable, and had a great atmosphere for meeting other travelers. I ended up making some new friends here, and we realized we were planning to visit many of the same places, so we explored together. That really made my trip even more memorable. The hostel itself was very clean and well-maintained, and I was impressed with the overall experience. The only issue I encountered was with late check-in. My bus arrived much later than expected, so I wasn't able to arrange an after-hours check-in in advance. I understand that the instructions were provided by email, but I did have a moment of panic because I was asked to call the hostel's phone number. Since I was traveling with only an eSIM and didn't have a New Zealand phone number, I wasn't able to make the call. It would be great if there were an alternative way to contact the hostel for late check-ins, such as WhatsApp, email, or an online messaging system. Overall, this hostel went beyond my expectations, and I'd definitely recommend it to other travelers."

"Amazing lodge designed in the Frank Lloyd Wright style- would give it 6 stars if I could (and there are only a few places worldwide that I would do that). The owners are so hospitable. Their home and this lodge has every detail a traveler could want. Upon arrival, Cliff showed us around. The house is gorgeous. We were staying here 4 nights and they upgraded us to the Lloyd suite, a large, airy room with a balcony overlooking the lake and a spectacular garden. At 6:15 there was a complimentary drink with homemade canapés every night. Breakfast with the other guests was at a shared table. It was wonderful and delicious. A spread on the counter of fruit and granolas etc; then the chef prepared a hot meal for us. The hospitality made us feel so welcome; the staff was amazing; the lodge was a delight to stay in. It was one of the best, if not the best place we stayed in during our 2 month trip to New Zealand."

"First, the sanitary conditions are very bad. As a hotel with a price of 4k+ RMB, although we did not pray for such a luxurious journey, the whole process was too bad! When the doors and windows of the whole room were closed, after returning to the hotel, we found that the whole house (living room, kitchen, bedroom, bathroom, bed sheets, quilt covers, pillows) was full of flying insects and mosquitoes. There were so many that they were densely packed all over the ceiling and bed, and everywhere we could see. First of all, when this happened, we did not think of blaming the hotel at the first time, but cleaned it ourselves for two hours. We thought we had cleaned it properly, but when we looked up in less than an hour, there were dense insects again, and there was no improvement at all. In this way, we cleaned it back and forth twice without any solution, so we had no choice but to call the hotel owner later. After hearing it, the owner did not apologize to us at the first time, but said to us: interesting. After that, after looking at the whole situation of the room, the hotel owner did nothing, but repeatedly emphasized that this was a seasonal problem. He had no attitude to solve the problem at all, and did not give a solution to the problem. Instead, he told us with a very bad attitude that it had nothing to do with them and could not be solved, let alone change our room. They said they couldn't do anything. They only left us a small bottle of insecticide! We never opened the doors and windows and checked them again before going out for dinner. It was already early morning that night after the communication. Under such circumstances, we asked if there would be a refund. They repeatedly assured me that they would refund and asked me to deal with it tomorrow morning. After I asked in detail how much money could be refunded, they said that they could not refund the full amount. They needed to think about how much money could be refunded. We didn't get too much trouble when we got the answer that we could refund, because no one wanted to happen. As a result, when we continued to communicate with them on the second day when we checked out, their attitude became worse. The boss and his wife began to refuse to refund because the garbage in the room was not cleaned up. You have to know that I didn't book an ordinary homestay or airbnb at this price, but a four-star hotel worth 4000+. This price is enough to experience the ultimate service anywhere! In the boss's view, do hotel guests have the responsibility and obligation to clean the room? And the attitude was very indifferent, and she told us very badly that she would never refund. During our communication with him, she had no service attitude at all, just a mentality of "whatever you want", and even began to threaten us and threatened to call the police. As a high-priced hotel, the owner's actions, whether it is the service attitude or the mode of solving problems for guests, I strongly suspect that what they said to us at night: when they were thinking about how much refund to give us, they were actually discussing how to find fault with us customers so that we could not get compensation! I think such behavior and attitude are completely unacceptable in the service industry, and the department must intervene and seriously rectify it."

"Been coming for over 20 years and it’s a really amazing resort to the stay with family and friends. In saying that however (and with how expensive it is now) there are some clear areas that need attention. 1 - in busy times the pool area has barebones staff. They could easily double the staff and still have wait times! Getting a drink is a novelty not something you can rely on within a short period. 2 - there are simply not enough showers and toilets anymore for how busy it gets. They’ve had the same amount since I began coming! Showers especially are hard to find in the mornings. They also clean the toilets at strange times, like early in the mornings when people wake. Surely they have the resources to do this overnight. 3 - they have this fancy big screen but never use it! 2x movies per day but otherwise blank. 4 - the pool areas showing some pretty clear signs of wear and tear, obvious cracks throughout and green algae along the bottom throughout our stay."
