Le Embassy Hotel Georgetown

George Town|1.35km from Pinang Peranakan Mansion
The white elevator is very unique to this elevator. Tho it was slow but I don’t mind bec it so chic with glass door. Very unique indeed! Love it though I wasn’t able to take pic. 😒 +++ white elevator, water refilling dispenser, very spacious room & bathroom +++ location was quite away from the main action but there are 2 bus stops nearby, komtar & chowrasta are 5-10mins walk +++ they provide dental kit, small soap, nice shampoo/conditioner & body wash, mugs, electric kettle, safe, ref, ac was functioning very well, room telephone, tv but i did not use it +++ free wifi was good —- reception is not very friendly except for 1 Indian guy who promptly answers whatsapp tho he mistaken me for a guy at first 😄, the chinese receptionist hardly smiles, indian lady seemed to not know anything when you ask about tourist spots (i think hotel people should equip themselves with some knowledge on tourism. I mean there should be basic orientation by management on this. Times had changed and you need to have these extra customer service, just suggesting). —- i was in the assumption that cleaning is daily but i was told every other day but i still need to remind them about it. Entire hotel can use some improvement in the cleaning — no closet inside the room, you just have to hang your stuff —- my view was a huge wall —- soundproofing is bad, very noisy when people close doors or children running around. You hear toilet flushing from nearby rooms —- it was raining when I arrive and nobody offered an umbrella except on the second day when the janitor heard me. That was appreciated very much. It also made me realize that umbrella is a weapon for solo travellers so that made the carrying a little easier —- towels smell mushy maybe bec of rainy season —- sometimes bathroom had some drainage smells —- food choices was a little limited in area unless you walk for like 5-10mins. Overall stay was still on the good side. I had way worst stays than this. I did enjoy my solo trip to Penang and would love to go back. I plan to stay next time near the street art areas where the actions are. I would still recommend le embassy to other travellers.

Red Inn Court

George Town|0.27km from Pinang Peranakan Mansion
I have a very good stay for 4 days at Red Inn Court. The owners are very friendly and always giving smile everytime we meet. Check in process was so easy, even though I didn't get any towel. When check in, you'll be asked for MYR 30 for room deposit. Plus: (+) Hostel is close to Rapid Penang bus stop. From the airport you can get down at Little India (Lebuh Chulia). From this spot or Penang Muzium you can go travel around Penang. It's very close to the hostel, for approximately 5 minutes walking. (+) For you who are Muslim, this hostel is very close to Kapitan Keling Mosque. You can clearly hear adzan (prayer calling) from this hostel. (+) You can find a lot of local cuisine in the surroundings. There are so many food choices you can take to eat. You're advisable to eat Nasi Kandar, Koay Teow, Penang Laksa, Hokkien Mee, Putu Mayong, Pasembur, and Popiah. They're the best quality food in town. (+) This hostel provides you a lot of tourist brochures inside their lobby. Free to take. You can freely take Penang Tourist Map, Penang Tourism Calendar of Events, Marking Georgetown, Penang Street Food, and so many more. By reading those references, I guarantee you wouldn't be lost in Penang. (+) This hostel offers its vintage style, precisely Chinese-vintage-style. I love it. There are so many rooms inside. (+) They serve you free simple breakfast, like bread, sandwich, fruits, etc. Free flow tea and coffee. (+) They have room service, so for you who stay more than one night, don't be worried, they'll clean your room, your bed, your blanket, etc. (+) The room is equipped with fan and air conditioner. It's completely sufficient to make you feel comfortable. (+) Because of its location, you'll be easy to find halal foods nearby. It's also strategic to go everywhere: State Court, KOMTAR, State Museum, Esplanade, City Hall, market, etc. Minus: (-) You maybe find the comments that the receptionist girl are rude. But I don't think so. She's clearly given me helps. I think that she's just ”polite”, not friendly. But the owners are very friendly. You can hire the motorcycle. For you who come from Indonesia or Brunei, the Madame is able to speak Malay/Bahasa. It will help you so much. Don't be hesitant to talk to her. (-) You will not find a large locker. There is a small locker behind your bed. It's small, not too large, but for me it's enough to place your precious belongings. It can only be opened by your own key so don't worry if your possessions can be stolen or not. (-) They have enough shared bathrooms, but there is no hot water inside. By the way, the bathrooms are clean. (-) When you firstly enter your room, you maybe find that it is a little humid/moist inside. I think it is because of air conditioning system. The room is small but the air conditioner is so powerful. (-) Personally, they didn't give me a towel (even though I brought mine). But they did give towels to every guest and I didn't get it. It's like a little unfair, subjectively. My rate: 8/

The Boutique Residence Hotel

The location is great. Breakfasts very good. Perfect pool to cool down (cold water, seriously), good choice. For me, the location and the swimming pool (because of my daughter) is ok. I recommend it. But: Zero wardrobes, cupboards etc. We had to keep everything in suitcases and there was not even a towel rack in the bathroom. It is much more important than an extra toothbrush, toothpaste, etc. Besides, calls from a nearby mosque are awakened. These are the details that irritate. And the pillows - high and hard. In addition, the hotel complies with the description and you can safely spend a few nights in it.

Staff were friendly and approachable. Location wise, not very near to some tourist spots but is considered a good place. There are 2 cafes within 3mins walk. Room were clean. Big bed and hot water were really helpful for a good sleep after the whole day trip!
East Indies Mansion

We enjoyed our stay at this hotel. It is a Chinese colonial mansion and had a UNESCO heritage feel. The rooms we had were spacious and comfortable with large bathrooms. We traveled with another couple so we enjoyed the common spaces so we spend more time together outside of our individual rooms. Access to to the kitchen and dining area was great. The best part of our stay was the wonderful staff. They were attentive and always willing to assist. The location was walking distance to the jetty and esplanade. There are many good restaurants nearby.

Absolutely terrible. I walk in at 10am, and the guy at the counter does not welcome me, but instead asks for over 100myr. Poor customer service from him, he maybe be new but it would be worth that he gets some training on how to deal with customers. My first room was very dirty. There were stains around the bed, there were stains on the towel, the bathroom had not been cleaned properly, it very disgusting. The cleaners did not look like official cleaners as they were not dressed in uniform. The cupboards were dusty. I asked to move room, and the lady was very kind and moved room. However this room smelt of cigarettes!!! It was vile. Again there was same problem with the room not being clean. I felt incredibly disgusted because whose spit and body fluid could In that room. I instead checked out and found that the manager was rude to his staff. I did not get a refund on my room but did end up with all the extra cash I had to pay.
Ren I Tang Heritage Inn

The location is convenient for sightseeing. It may be said that it is located almost in the middle of Little India. We recommend going for a walk early in the morning before it gets too hot. There are no tourists on Armenian Street, so you can take your time and admire the mural art on your own. There is an Indian supermarket across the street from the hotel, and although it's not that big, they stock drinks and spices, and the store is typical of an Indian store. It's a small inn and you have to go up the stairs, so I don't think it's suitable for people who have large suitcases and are looking for perfect Japanese cleanliness. Although the breakfast time is late, we recommend this breakfast at this inn. Several types of breads such as croissants for Westerners (I haven't eaten them so I can't confirm the taste), local menu items such as nasi lemak, curry puffs, several types of Nyonya sweets, several types of fruits, *cooked in your favorite style. you can get. Free coffee, tea, and homemade lemonade for breakfast. There is also a cafe open during the day, and the Nyonya laksa here was quite delicious. The front desk is open until 11am at night, so it may be difficult for those with a late flight.

I applied for a visa and stayed for one night. Housing with remote check-in, which was easier than with a person, the main thing is to get the password in advance, located in the center of attractions.
