Santhiya Tree Koh Chang Resort

Klong Prao Beach
Nice resort, the best part is the private pool for every room. Gym is a little rundown and the restaurants do not do good Thai food. But the restaurant next to it on the beach does amazing Thai food, which they are clearly competing with since the difference is so big. so maybe they don't even try to do good Thai food and focus on the western, since their burgers and pasta are not bad, although the pizza is bland. So definitely go to the restaurant next to it on the beach, not the resort restaurant. top 5 in thailand quality level. we stayed in the 3 level building with the private pools not the cabins, which don't have the pools. worth it for the price which was slightly discounted for the season.

Kai Bae Beach
I booked last minute so availability in Koh Chang was limited. Duckling was one of the highest reviewed accommodation. Pros Close to the main shops, restaurants etc, 10-15 minute walk to nice beach Staff are very good Bike rental is cheap, no deposit, trustworthy - you definitely don't need to hire anywhere else Rooms are spacious Water provided upon request Bar has games, cold drinks, nice atmosphere Cons No safe in the room Massive ant problem Room only cleaned when requested JCB digger was view but then some rooms don't have windows.... Its dry season, the river is just rocks and pipes This place is good value. If you don't want a resort with a pool on the beach, you want good value accommodation with friendly staff who treat you like a friend rather than a customer and close to the main road This is 2* place that could do with some changes (like having the shower gel, shampoo combo near the actual shower, not the door) but overall i was happy with the stay. If i went back i would spend maybe 4 nights on Koh Chang, 1 at Kai Bae, 1 at Klong Kloi and 2 at White Sand. Lonely beach is a 1 hour visit. If you book the return bus from Ekkami to Koh Chang ferry, it picks you up at the same place it drops you off (at the ferry - 80 baht to cross, mini van to Kai Bae 100 baht). There is not much at the ferry point so don't plan to stay there too long. Returning back there i took a Songthaew from the main road (has a yellow sign in the window saying 'Pier'). Then crossing, took around 1hr 15mins. 100 baht for Songthaew.
Salakphet Resort

Beautiful structure buit on stilts over the waters with one of the best seafood restaurant of Koh Chang. Large room well equiped nicely decorated and well maintained. Free kayaks to explore the bay or to spend some lovely times at the small white sand beach on Koh Phrao Nok. Best is to rent a scooter to explore the area since the roads are flat and safe on this side of the island. Not only Long Beach or Memorial Beach but Salakphet Temple, the waterfall and the mangrove forest is a must to visit !!! We had a great private tour boat at a very affordable price with several stops on different islands. Just ask the manager Khun Big and she will do her best to fulfil your expectations for a customized experience. Be aware Salakphet is a quiet traditional fishing village so do not expect bars or discos in the surroundings but is a great spot for nature lovers. We could spend only 3 days here and it was not enough to discover everything so we will come back again.

White Sand Beach
The apartment is beautiful. The rooms are quite small but clean and conveniently furnished. All worked. The pool is only about 1m deep and there is no bed for guests. For this is the half pool area with 9 massage beds provided. And that even in the Peak Season had never been used more than two beds. The masseurs are overall cheap Cambodia workers and can not even have a Thai massage! At the beach there is not enough beds. And from 16:00 a.m. the beach before the hotel must be cleared for the 25 tables of the restaurant. A freak. Because no more than 5 tables have been placed. Breakfast is also a single freak and is not to be described as such. The cheap Cambodia staff is slow, disinterested and unmotivated. English error. Thai is hardly understood. They also cost only 1/3 of what a Thai costs. This hotel is just about maximising profit. Continue. We four are not coming anymore ;)

Shantaa Resort, Kohkood
4.7/545 Reviews
I rarely write reviews. but feel when I do, I try to be as subjective as possible. Shantaa undoubtedly has great five star reviews, many of which comment on the idyllic, stunning 'paradise' location and great accommodation and service. For example, our suite, an 'extra sweet plus' was without doubt a beautiful space albeit, without the ocean views described! (More like a glimpse through the trees)! For us, however, we found the basic level of service and general information lacking, We stayed for a week and at no point, throughout the stay, did any member of staff ask us whether everything was The service at dinner was painfully slow and this appeared to be commonplace with a fair number of guests/tables. With the exception of one or two of the waiting staff and allowing for the language barriers) some members of staff actually came across as surly. It was difficult to grab their attention as they did not appear to like making eye contact. My husband and I dont eat that much and also eat very simply. Breakfast is served at the table rather than buffet style which we understood to be for sustainability, avoidance of food wastage. Breakfast for us was a couple of slices of toast and a yoghurt bowl each It was pretty amusing to see guests order copious amounts of food at breakfast and dinner, which is fine, yet we found it a real challenge to be provided with the most basic of things like cutlery, another plate or a little extra butter! We had seven breakfasts there and even to the last day and with the same staff, they couldn’t get it right Most days my husband resorting to going up to get these items himself. On the subject of eco tourism, our understanding is that the management (whoever they are as they clearly weren't visible or present during our stay) claim to be committed to environmental sustainability. We were at a loss, therefore, to understand the huge volume of towels and plastic bottles of water on tap that were freely available to guests throughout the whole day. As for the beach and ocean, be warned that although the small South and North rocky beach areas around the resort appeared to be cleared daily, just a few steps along past the pier, on the long sandy stretch of beach, it really highlights just how polluted the area is. To their credit, we saw guests from the neighbouring resort regularly walking out from the sea with handfuls of garbage and we witnessed a huge and diverse range of items washed up on the beach (glass light bulb, bottles of gin, flip flops, to name but a few)! In summary, on the surface, Shantaa is idyllic, but scratching below the surface, clearly reveals the cracks. This resort seems fine for returning clients who like to remain in a 'bubble' but idyllic, is definately not a term we would use to describe our experience

Klong Prao Beach
OK why am I giving 3 and not a 5 star rate, for a couple of key points, but let's start with a positive points. Great location, and beautiful property, nice pool (although at the time we visited the pool was green it didn't bother us but it might bother you) and facilities. Nice breakfast, good happy hour. Nice rooms with great balconies. Now into the details that I didn't like. - The room wasn't well clean, since day 1, even when we checked in we didn't have towels and had to wait couple of hours to get towels and after requesting several times. We also noticed that all floors had different cleaning staff, maybe we weren't lucky, we were on the room 233. - Poor and old amenities in the room. We had a super old shower cap in the room with hairs, really unacceptable for a 4 star hotel, and that was it for amenities, and the tray their were supposed to be displayed was dirty with hairs and dust. - somehow the room was missing something, maybe the cleaning part, because it missed the wow factor that it could have. - the hotel promotes tours with elephant riding which in my opinion is BIG NO and unacceptable. - the egg station in the breakfast was working in a strange way, if you wanted a fired egg they had already several done and in a super odd shape, not natural. I don't understand why to have egg station if you don't preper them fresh. - the staff in the reception was not costumer service mind or service minded, maybe they need a workshop for all staff members in this hotel, maybe it's a management problem or still covid recovery problem. I don't know this hotel has such a great potential maybe it's the best hotel in the island and some details are missing. Another annoying point, but this is not the hotels fault is just a warning, so much people taking Instagram pictures everywhere, to the point that it's annoying. People are not experiencing the place instead they are taking pictures to post online, and it kills the vibe. I hope someone reads it and it creates an impact in how this hotel is managed, spec3the cleaning and attention to detail. Would I return yes, again I believe that this is one of the best hotels in the island. This is not a complain althout it might sound, it's more notes for improvement. Hope next time I can give a 5 star rating.

Kai Bae Beach
Good hotel, although not new. Convenient location with many cafes and shops nearby. The territory is good, a lot of greenery. Breakfast is modest, the main diet is eggs in different versions. In addition, vegetables, fruits, herbs, pastries. Two pools: in a large one, it seems, sea water. We did not swim there, as the water is very warm, not at all refreshing. In a small one, the water is better, clean, you can freshen up) The beach is very beautiful, but not swimmable at all! Stones. You can enter only in coral slippers. We did not swim in the sea near the hotel. There are kayaks, the use of hotel guests is free. The staff is friendly, as are the locals. But special thanks to the girls at the reception. Very hospitable, friendly, always ready to help!! And thanks to the hotel driver, he also helps with luggage upon arrival and departure! Very pleasant and helpful! We will stay at this hotel again! ❤️

Lonely Beach / Bai Lan Bay
This hotel has been operating for over 10 yrs. It was good back then and still a good vibe here. Its got to be the best budget option on Lonely beach for sure. The room I was allocated was so clean, nice and had a new feel about it. Large bathroom and fridge in the room. Good price Restaurant food is not bad. The Cambodians working there are friendly. But I imagine they dont suffer fools. If you treat them well they will treat you well. If I were management I would probably keep a closer eye on them to make sure they are being polite to all customers. If you plan to walk into town at nighttime you need a torch. Its not far but dangerous in the dark with the bikes and cars zipping past. Highly recommend this hotel and restaurant. Right on the stunning beach. White sand and nice water. Cant wait to go back!
