Shenzhen Shuibei Overview: Location & Layout

Core Geographic Location
Shuibei sits in Luohu District, Shenzhen’s prime commercial area near the Hong Kong border and major transport hubs. Its trading zone covers Shuibei 1st Road, Beili North Road and Beili South Road, forming a compact, fully walkable block. Each building and zone has fixed product specializations, letting visitors shop efficiently without aimless wandering.
Key Landmark Buildings & Functional Division
Shuibei’s core landmarks feature permanent, fixed business positioning for easy navigation:
- Shuibei International Jewellery Exchange: The district’s most authoritative flagship trading complex.
- Shuibei Jewellery Building: Specializes in mid-to-high-end finished gold, diamond and jade jewellery for wholesale and retail.
- Junma Jewellery Centre: Focuses on trendy silver pieces, semi-precious stones and daily wearable accessories.
- Jinzhan Jewellery Plaza & Jinli Building: Permanent hubs for diamond trading, custom design and large-scale jade wholesale.
What to Buy in Shuibei: Jewellery Products & Custom Services

Product Range for Wholesale & Retail
Shuibei maintains year-round full inventory of nearly all wearable and collectible jewellery. Unlike exclusive wholesale markets, it openly serves individual retail buyers and bulk resellers with no membership fees, supporting flexible single-piece purchases and large-batch sourcing for Canadian visitors.
Core permanent product categories include:
- Precious metals: Pure gold, K-gold, rose gold, sterling silver ornaments, investment bars and custom metal pieces.
- Diamonds & precious gemstones: Full-carat natural and lab-grown diamonds, rubies, sapphires, emeralds and certified high-end stones.
- Jade & pearls: Jadeite, nephrite ornaments, freshwater, South Sea and Tahitian pearls for retail and bulk orders.
- Semi-precious stones & accessories: Amethyst, crystal, agate, turquoise and trendy daily-wear jewellery.
Pro Buying Tips for High-Value Jewellery
Shuibei offers transparent, stable pricing for high-value jewellery at a huge discount compared to Canadian retailers. All items follow global market standards with verifiable quality markings and official certifications. Below are key buying guidelines for precious metals, diamonds, gems, jade and pearls:
- Gold jewellery: Priced by real-time international gold rates plus a low processing fee. Standard Au999, Au990 and 18K hallmarks guarantee authentic purity.
- Diamonds: Available in 0.3 to 5+ carats (natural and lab-grown). All quality stones come with official GIA or NGTC 4C grading certificates for full traceability.
- Jade & pearls: Always ask for formal appraisal certificates to avoid artificially treated goods. High-quality pearls feature uniform shape, smooth surfaces and consistent luster.
- Semi-precious stones: Choose pieces with even colour, clean texture and no visible cracks for reliable quality and long-term value.
Custom Jewellery Commission Process
Custom jewellery is Shuibei’s signature advantage, priced 50–70% lower than Canadian custom work with no hidden charges. Its standardized, permanent process is straightforward for all international visitors:
- Submit design requirements via images, sketches or verbal descriptions;
- Select metal and gemstone materials to match your budget;
- Review and revise custom 3D design drafts;
- Complete professional production, setting and polishing;
- Receive finished pieces with official quality certifications.
Fixed lead times apply year-round: 3–5 working days for simple engraved items, 7–15 days for complex wedding sets and large jade carvings.

Smart Shuibei Shopping Tips for First-Time Canadian Visitors

These universal rules help Canadian shoppers avoid pitfalls and shop rationally year-round:
- Bargaining etiquette: Retail orders have mild negotiation room, while bulk orders qualify for standard wholesale discounts. Late-afternoon shopping offers more flexible pricing; avoid extreme lowball offers.
- Wholesale MOQ Rules: No universal 5-piece rule. Silver & small accessories require 5+ pieces for wholesale pricing; gold, diamond and high-value fine jewellery support single-piece wholesale rates, ideal for individual Canadian buyers.
- Authenticity guarantee: Collect official NGTC/GIA certificates for all high-value items; paid on-site re-inspection is available.
- Pitfall avoidance: Steer clear of overpriced low-grade jade, uncertified diamonds and unverified raw stones.
- Cross-store comparison: Prices and workmanship vary by vendor; always compare options before purchasing.

Shuibei Best Visiting Time & Seasonal Packing Guide
Shuibei operates fully year-round with complete inventory. For Canadian travellers, mild spring and autumn offer the most comfortable shopping conditions. Jewellery exhibitions run annually with updated styles, while major Chinese public holidays bring temporary closures and crowds best avoided.
Shenzhen Climate & Packing Guidance
Shenzhen’s subtropical, humid climate differs greatly from Canada’s cold weather. Refer to the seasonal climate and packing guide below for comfortable travel preparation:
Season | Climate Features | Packing Suggestions |
|---|---|---|
Spring | Humid and rainy | Light long sleeves and waterproof outerwear |
Summer | Hot and humid | Breathable casual outfits and sun protection supplies |
Autumn | Dry and mild | Ordinary daily casual wear |
Winter | Mild and snow-free | Light coats or thin sweaters |
Essential Practical Tips for Canadian Travellers

Visa, Payment & Connectivity
Canadian ordinary passport holders qualify for 30-day visa-free entry for tourism, business and transit (valid until December 31, 2026), with a minimum of 6 months passport validity required. Only RMB (Chinese Yuan) is accepted for in-person transactions; currency exchange services are widely available at airports and local banks. International bank cards can be bound to Alipay or WeChat Pay for daily payments, while small cash is recommended for street vendors. Local SIM cards or portable Wi-Fi devices provide stable internet, and a VPN is required to access Canadian social platforms and apps in China.
Safety & China Customs Rules
Shuibei is a highly secure commercial zone with 24-hour monitoring. When exiting China, ensure all jewellery purchases meet the “personal use, reasonable quantity” standard to avoid customs issues.
CBSA Rules for Bringing Jewellery Back to Canada
Canadian travellers must fully declare all overseas jewellery to CBSA to avoid penalties. Trips of 48 hours or longer qualify for a CAD 800 duty exemption; shorter trips have lower exemption limits. Purchases exceeding the threshold incur standard GST/HST and import duties. Always retain receipts and certificates for verification, insurance and resale. Bulk identical pieces are classified as commercial goods with higher duty rates.
Final Thoughts
As an experienced Canadian cross-border shopper, I highly recommend Shuibei as a reliable year-round jewellery destination. With factory-low prices, diverse inventory, professional custom work and strict quality control, it delivers far better value than Canadian retail stores. This guide covers all essential rules and tips for safe, cost-effective jewellery shopping in Shenzhen.

Shenzhen Convention & Exhibition Center Shenzhen|0.78km from city centre
Staying in Shenzhen for a short stopover from Hong Kong, I simply made a casual note on my booking that it was my wife's birthday, without expecting any special arrangements. So, I was pleasantly surprised when I entered the room to find it decorated for a birthday, complete with a mini cake. During my stay, if I had any issues and contacted Joy, she was always prompt and efficient in her responses and problem-solving, never perfunctory.
The room cleaning was very thorough; it wasn't just superficially clean. The bedding was comfortable, and there was no standing water or grime in the bathroom corners, which made for a truly comfortable stay. The room itself was spacious and bright, and all the facilities I used daily worked smoothly. It was a very pleasant experience to relax in the room.
When needed, issues were also handled immediately.
The hotel's location is also very convenient. Getting a taxi or finding a restaurant is hassle-free. It's just a 5-minute walk to Coco Park and Ping An Finance Center, saving a lot of commuting time for out-of-town visitors. Overall, it was a very genuine stay, without unnecessary frills. This small birthday gesture left a very good impression.FromUS$103

The location is extremely convenient.
It's right at Exit A of the Convention & Exhibition Centre Station. There's an elevator directly to the hotel inside the 2-D Town shopping mall. The hotel is also right next to Huangting Plaza and Link Central City shopping mall, which is very convenient.
Comfortable Accommodation
The room space is quite large, so a family of three didn't feel cramped. Although the hotel has been open for a while, the facilities are well-maintained.
Delicious Food
The breakfast buffet offers a wide variety of options, including Chinese, Western, and Japanese dishes, catering to different tastes.
Well-Equipped Fitness Facilities
The fitness center is outsourced, but it still provides service outside of office hours. Hotel staff can open the door for access, offering 24-hour fitness service.FromUS$115

I stayed in a river view room in the West Tower this time, with a view of Hong Kong across the river.
Pros:
* Well-decorated and good facilities
* Very quiet, perfect for relaxation
* Spacious room
-- Overall, a great stay experience.
Cons:
* The room lighting was a bit dim.
* You have to change elevators on the fifth floor, and walking down is a bit inconvenient.
* Food delivery doesn't come up to the room; you have to go down and pick it up yourself.
* The hotel's location isn't very close to the subway station; walking there involves a somewhat secluded road. I'd recommend taking a taxi.FromUS$76

It had been a while since we traveled, so my family and I decided to try out the Hilton for a weekend getaway. Check-in was super fast, and the staff were incredibly considerate of my elderly family members, making sure everyone felt comfortable. The service from everyone was very kind and welcoming. It was a rare family trip, and we had such a happy stay. We didn't have to wait long for the elevators, the room lighting was soft and pleasant, and there were plenty of light and healthy options for breakfast. Getting around was easy too. I chose this hotel because I was going to Hong Kong 🇭🇰, and it was so convenient! It's just a 100-meter walk to Futian Railway Station, and the subway is also easily accessible. My child really wanted to take the subway, so we went to Hong Kong. The two round trips were really unpleasant. This place is part of China, yet you have to put up with the attitudes of the people there; they look so impatient, as if we mainlanders owe them something. Without our mainland fish, how would your economy grow? I'll never go there again. Shenzhen is much better, with great food and a relaxed atmosphere. The hotel was good too 👍. Seeing Hong Kong people coming to Shenzhen to spend money, it makes you realize how much more affordable the mainland is. A bowl of noodles in Hong Kong costs over a hundred, and everything is expensive. I'll definitely come back to Shenzhen for food, drinks, and fun. Happy! There were no crowds at Disneyland during the summer vacation 🤗, and there will be fewer and fewer people in the future. Welcome to Shanghai Disneyland, where you don't have to deal with anyone's bad attitude; just let loose and have fun!FromUS$149

This time, I chose this hotel for a family trip, and the overall stay was excellent. Sahar, Molly, and Bella were incredibly friendly and patient. They gave us practical advice, considering we were a family traveling together, and were very responsive to our needs. Their service was attentive and thoughtful, and they were kind and polite. I stayed at the Four Seasons Hotel Shenzhen for a temporary business trip, and the attention to detail in their service left a lasting impression. Upon arriving at the hotel entrance, Max, the manager who assisted me with my previous check-in, immediately recognized me and provided exceptional service. His incredible memory for guests truly showcases the high-caliber service at luxury hotels.
The guest room had an open layout, offering a nearly perfect stay and rest experience. The sofa lounge area, workspace, and sleeping area were clearly separated, creating a smooth flow that's ideal for business travelers. The bathroom featured a bathtub and a smart toilet, and all facilities were well-maintained, making for a comfortable stay during my business trip.
Breakfast was at the FOO restaurant, which boasts a timeless 'old money' design that has stood the test of time. My favorite part was the seating experience; there were numerous semi-private 'booth' style seats that offered great comfort and allowed for an undisturbed dining experience. The breakfast selection was impressive, featuring everything from Kashi yogurt, a wide variety of bread options, freshly made wontons, to Chinese brewed flower teas. It's clear that the Four Seasons invests heavily in its dining offerings, making the early morning breakfast experience for a business trip truly satisfying.FromUS$277

Lo Wu Control Point, Lo Wu Railway Station Shenzhen|6.46km from city centre
This is an old hotel that's been around for decades, and you can tell that the furniture used back in the day was top-notch. The rooms are spacious, elegantly decorated, and well-equipped with various facilities. However, with time, it's a bit outdated now; the lack of smart toilets is a noticeable drawback. But on the bright side, the spacious rooms, elegant decor, and comprehensive facilities, along with meticulous cleaning, really allow us to sleep soundly and comfortably without a worry.
I absolutely have to give a huge shout-out for the hotel's service and food! 👍
**Service:** It was Dragon Boat Festival, which coincided with my mother's birthday and Father's Day, so I came back to Shenzhen to celebrate with my parents. Since the booking was quite last-minute, I messaged the hotel, just hoping, to ask if they could arrange a birthday setup. The hotel staff readily agreed and did an amazing job with the birthday decorations! Upon arrival, we were informed that both rooms had been complimentary upgraded to high-floor deluxe rooms, and the birthday decorations inside the rooms were perfect! I'm incredibly satisfied! 😊
**Food:** Breakfast is served at the all-day dining restaurant, the Beer Bar on the 3rd floor. IHG members can move to the Prego Italian restaurant for a quieter atmosphere. The continental buffet breakfast offers a rich variety and excellent quality, including a noodle station and made-to-order omelets. The omelets and black truffle scrambled eggs were particularly amazing!
For lunch, we used a dining voucher at the Fu Lin Men restaurant on the 2nd floor. Note that the voucher can only be used for à la carte stir-fries; it's not applicable for tea or dim sum, and cannot be combined with member discounts or group purchases. The dim sum at Fu Lin Men is excellent; the shrimp dumplings are smooth and tender, the tripe is crisp, and the stir-fries are consistently good. After using the voucher, the total cost for three people was 210 yuan, which was a very satisfying meal overall! 😋

Lo Wu Control Point, Lo Wu Railway Station Shenzhen|6.34km from city centre
The location is super convenient, but the facilities are quite old. Plus, with the construction of the large bridge/overpass, they work overtime late into the night, which can be noisy. Being close to the train station, when traffic jams, people honk their horns intentionally until very late, which is pretty loud. The pool, while not exceptional, is decent. Took the kids to Dameisha for a relaxing summer break.
The hotel shares a beach with the InterContinental, which is fantastic – at least it's not overly crowded. The free public beach next door was like a sardine can; you couldn't even move there.
The hotel offers great value for money, and the staff's attitude is excellent. Especially Eva, who checked me in. A big shout-out to her! Communication was smooth throughout, and she was very helpful in arranging the room. Always smiling. My family was also very satisfied with the room.
The breakfast buffet was also good, with everything you'd expect. 9 AM is peak hour, so either go early or go late.
Just a small suggestion: the bathrobes in the room have shrunk from washing. I recommend getting some new ones. The old, worn-out ones should be replaced.
Overall, it's a very good hotel. ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️ RecommendedFromUS$88

The hotel is right near my home. I just got back from the Americas, and I had already communicated my check-in time with the hotel beforehand, so I didn't have to deal with jet lag. That was really nice. I remember when I was little, my friends and I used to have afternoon tea at Langham – it's been a long time! Lynn and Livy were both great staff members.FromUS$124

This was a perfect hotel for us to land after a long international flight with young kids; huge hotel and compound which likely had its prime when it was first built 20 years ago; it needs a lot of maintenance and upkeep but the standout of it was its nature park access which is a must with young kids; so beautiful and lots of fun. It would be so nice if it became more popular again so they can restore the place to its former glory. Workers were really warm and friendly; breakfast was a nice touch.FromUS$52

I've stayed at the Grand Hyatt in Shenzhen a few times, and the experience has always been consistently good. The location is excellent, making it convenient to get anywhere. The rooms are spacious and comfortable, and the facilities are well-maintained. The service, from check-in to check-out, is attentive – friendly without being intrusive. The dining is also great; breakfast offers a wide variety, and there are many food options downstairs. Overall, I can't find any faults; it's simply a reliable and worry-free stay. My friend and I traveled from HK to Futian Mandarin Oriental to celebrate a birthday. I'd researched several hotels online beforehand and ultimately chose MO, a hotel I hadn't stayed at before. My main reasons were the hotel's reputation for quality and excellent service, as well as its convenient location for shopping, with a mall and many dining options right downstairs. From the moment we stepped out of the car and into the hotel, we could immediately tell it was different from other five-star establishments. The experience, from being greeted upon arrival, having our luggage promptly taken, being escorted to the 78th floor for check-in, and finally shown to our room, was incredibly smooth and warm. By the time we left, at least eight hotel staff members had interacted with us, and every single one was genuinely friendly and kind. This 100% positive interaction rate is something I've rarely encountered over the years.
For me, the air conditioning's coolness and quietness, as well as absolute cleanliness and a modern feel, are paramount in a hotel room, and they scored full marks on all counts. (I learned that this hotel has only been open for four years, and I truly hope they can maintain this excellent standard, as it's crucial for guests like us). I'd like to thank the gentleman who checked us in – I've forgotten his name, but he was incredibly thoughtful and proactive in anticipating our needs, making arrangements for us to attend a concert on June 26th. I also want to thank the lovely Victor, who showed us to our room, gave us a detailed introduction to the hotel, and took photos for us. And a special thank you to Brian, the 'Chef Concierge' (Golden Key member), who satisfied our curiosity by explaining the origin and role of the Chinese Golden Key concierges. Besides having a wonderful birthday trip, we also gained a rich experience in human connection. Thank you to everyone at Futian MO. We'll definitely be staying here again! ^.^FromUS$450

A truly satisfying stay! The JW Marriott Hotel Shenzhen is indeed a top-tier hotel. The lobby exudes a light luxury and grand atmosphere, and the public areas are spotlessly clean. The staff at check-in were very professional and explained everything meticulously. The room layout was well-designed, the furnishings were exquisite, and the cleanliness was meticulously maintained—even the corners were sparkling clean. The mattress had just the right firmness, ensuring a sound sleep until morning. During my leisure time, strolling around the hotel was very pleasant, offering a tranquil and comfortable environment. The guest relations team proactively checked on our experience, and any issues were addressed promptly. The hotel restaurants offered a wide variety of dishes with fresh ingredients. Overall, the experience was comfortable and relaxing, making it perfectly suitable for both short stays and longer trips. I genuinely recommend it to anyone traveling.FromUS$141

Too many people on the weekend. We had to queue to check in at 5:30 PM and for breakfast too, which was decent. The coffee was great! We came to Shuibei specifically for my birthday to buy jewelry, and the concierge even sent a birthday card and fruit. However, it's an old hotel, and the facilities are showing their age. You have to transfer elevators on the 96th floor, and the toilet was really old-fashioned and uncomfortable to use. There were almost no child-friendly amenities, and the pool was tiny, so my child was very bored. We're definitely staying at the new hotel in Shenzhen Bay next time.FromUS$198

Room: Excellent! 👍 The room was spacious and bright, and the high-floor view was fantastic. It was so relaxing to sit inside and watch the sea. The twin beds were easy to push together, making it very family-friendly for those with kids.
Location: Unbeatable! ❤️ Our main goal this Dragon Boat Festival was to explore the Yantian coastline. The hotel is super close to the subway, making Dameisha, Xiaomeisha, and Xichong all easily accessible by metro. It was also convenient to walk to Yating Bay to catch the Haishan Line to Enshang Wetland Park. We had a very fulfilling three-day holiday.
Facilities: The hotel isn't specifically geared towards families, so we only tried the pool, which was good. However, with One City Mall right downstairs, you have everything you need, which is incredibly convenient.
Breakfast: Very satisfied! 😘 Everything was great, except for a bit of a wait during peak hours. They had freshly made wontons and waffles, as well as fresh squeezed juice. All the breads were delicious.
Overall, highly recommended! ~FromUS$106

Traveling with my family and kids, we stayed at the Westin Shenzhen Nanshan and had a wonderfully comfortable experience. The room was clean and tidy, the Heavenly Bed was incredibly comfortable, and the floor-to-ceiling windows offered a great view of Window of the World. The hotel has a kids' pool and provides special amenities for children, which my kids thoroughly enjoyed. The staff were attentive and thoughtful, and check-in was efficient. The surrounding area is convenient for sightseeing and getting around, making it perfect for a family vacation. We'll definitely choose this hotel again next time.FromUS$92

We were on a quick staycation from Hong Kong. The hotel room is actually nicer than it looks online- super clean, very nice linens, and surprisingly quiet! The bed was great with comfy pillows (not like usual hard ones), and we really appreciated the good service at the concierge and restaurant. Balcony was perfect for a late night snack and drink while kid was sleeping inside, and wow we had the best view for the craziest thunderstorm ever.
One thing- the beach itself is ok la- there is only one area where swimming is allowed, and there are approximately a million people crammed into that one area. The area is a bit weird, with lots of development, but with some already abandoned buildings.
BUT, the stay itself was so good, we were delighted with White House!FromUS$52

Huaqiangbei Area Shenzhen|3.08km from city centre
My two-day, one-night stay at the Quchuang Hotel (Futian Huaqiangbei Metro Station Branch) was incredibly comfortable, far exceeding my expectations. I highly recommend it.
The hotel boasts an excellent location, close to Huaqiangbei Metro Station. The bustling commercial district is within walking distance, offering a wide array of dining options and shops, making commutes and shopping exceptionally convenient. It's perfectly suited for both leisure travelers and business guests on short stays. The front desk staff were professional and courteous, handling both check-in and check-out processes efficiently and smoothly. Their service was attentive and gentle, and they proactively helped with travel inquiries, making me feel truly valued.
The guest room was meticulously cleaned, with a tidy and spotless environment. The bedding was changed promptly and was free of any unpleasant odors. The room layout was well-designed, with good natural light and ventilation. The bathroom featured a wet/dry separation, and the water pressure was stable. All daily facilities were well-maintained, and the soundproofing was excellent, ensuring a quiet environment at night for a restful and relaxing sleep. The common areas were neat and orderly, and the rooftop even offered complimentary laundry facilities, demonstrating thoughtful attention to detail.
Considering its prime location in the bustling Futian area, the hotel's pricing is very reasonable, and both its facilities and service level offer exceptional value for money. This brief stay was a fantastic experience. I will definitely prioritize choosing this hotel again on future visits to the Huaqiangbei area in Shenzhen, and I wholeheartedly recommend it to other travelers.FromUS$31

The beef brisket noodles for breakfast were delicious; I ate them for four days straight and didn't get tired of them. All the staff were excellent, very warm and friendly. Ms. Liu Mingjie from the restaurant took great care of us, which left a deep impression. Shenzhen Shuibei FAQs
-
Is Shuibei Jewellery Market open to the public, or is it wholesale only?
Shuibei is primarily a wholesale jewellery district, but it is absolutely open to individual buyers and tourists. Many vendors will sell single pieces at retail or near-wholesale prices, especially if you are purchasing several items. You do not need a business licence or wholesale account to enter any of the trading buildings. Simply walk in, browse the stalls, and negotiate directly with vendors. -
How do I pay for jewellery at Shuibei? Do vendors accept Canadian dollars or credit cards?
Most vendors at Shuibei prefer payment in Chinese Yuan (CNY/RMB). Mobile payments via WeChat Pay and Alipay are extremely common — international visitors can now link Visa or Mastercard to these apps. Cash in CNY is also widely accepted. Canadian dollars and most foreign credit cards are generally not accepted directly at market stalls. It is advisable to exchange currency before visiting or withdraw CNY from an ATM in the Luohu area. -
Is the jewellery at Shuibei real and of good quality? How do I avoid buying fakes?
Shuibei is a legitimate, internationally recognized jewellery trading hub — the vast majority of products are genuine. However, as with any large market, quality varies significantly between vendors. To protect yourself: always ask for certificates (GIA, IGI, NGTC) for diamonds and gemstones; check gold hallmarks (look for stamps like 999, 18K, or 750); buy from stalls with formal shop-front setups rather than informal sellers; and use a portable UV light to check for gemstone treatments. For significant purchases, consider hiring a licensed local buying agent. -
How much can I save buying jewellery at Shuibei compared to buying in Canada?
Savings can be substantial, often ranging from 30% to 60% compared to Canadian retail jewellery prices, particularly for gold jewellery and custom pieces. This is because Shenzhen is at the heart of China's jewellery manufacturing industry — you are buying closer to the source, cutting out multiple layers of middlemen. Savings are greatest for gold (which is priced close to daily spot rates) and custom design work. Diamond savings depend on certification and quality; always compare against international diamond market prices. -
What is the best time of year to visit Shenzhen Shuibei?
The best times to visit Shuibei are October through December and March through April. These months offer pleasant weather (mild and dry) and fully active trading floors. If you are a serious buyer, aim to visit during the Shenzhen International Jewellery Fair, typically held in late February or early March, where the widest range of products and newest designs are showcased. Avoid visiting during Chinese New Year (late January to mid-February) as many vendors close for 1–2 weeks. -
Can I ship jewellery purchased at Shuibei back to Canada?
Yes, many vendors — particularly those accustomed to international clients — can arrange international shipping. For larger wholesale orders, using a professional freight forwarder is advisable. When shipping jewellery to Canada, be aware that CBSA requires accurate declaration of goods and their value. Duties and taxes may apply depending on the total value and the materials involved. Always insure shipped jewellery for its full value and retain all purchase documentation.
