There is so much to unpack here when it comes to Selina Birmingham. Never again am I staying at this hellhole of a hotel. For a name like Selina, the hotel sure is nightmarish to stay at. It's shameful that the hotel shares the same name with my non-biological/cosplay partner. There is no breakfast but at least, the bedding, the pillows and the duvet are comfy (but most likely due to the fact that I’m tired) and the wi-fi is decent. Unfortunately, this is where the compliments stop, especially when the dorm rooms are so dark, you have to turn on the flashlight on your phone in order to see. Not to mention, there is no television in the room I was staying in. To make matters worse, the dorm room is cold, coupled with no heating. I honestly don't mind the cold most of the time but the room temperature is too cold for my liking. Speaking of the ground floor, the Korean receptionist told me that I'm not allowed to eat my food at a table at the cafe and told me to climb the stairs all the way to the third floor in order to eat my food. It isn't fair, considering the receptionist with the short, dark hair tends to allow me to eat my food at a table at the cafe during the very early hours of the morning. I eventually lost my patience and yelled at the Korean receptionist. It's rare when I lose my patience. I threatened in a growly voice with, ”I suggest you fill the pot noodle to the top with water unless you want a scathing, negative review to be blasted on the radio for everyone to hear?”. Finally, she got the memo. The rooms, bathrooms and toilets and facilities are unsanitary (for example, there are biscuit crumbs all over the bed sheets. I didn't know until I got out of bed), the entire hotel itself is not accessibility-friendly as if the lack of a lift and the staff not being accommodating towards disabled people such as myself isn’t of any indication, the kitchen and the kitchen equipment on the third floor are dirty, there is no hot water in some of the bathrooms within the dorm rooms, the bathrooms and the dorm rooms are shared (therefore, there is no privacy), the lights keep turning themselves off if you’re idle (I’m more used to turning on and off the lights on my own accord), you need to pay £10 for a padlock which is complicated for disabled people and the list goes on. The toilets, bathrooms, kitchen etc are just as dirty as Badea Faulkner and Olive Allison Brown from the Avanzar House in Middleton, Manchester not cleaning up after themselves. And don’t get me started on the staff being problematic. They aren’t very useful to the point where I had to shout at them due to their language barriers and them not listening to me, let alone understanding me. This is troubling for autistic people like me. Never in all my years have I encountered such frustrating hotel staff members. Compared to the other hotels I've stayed at in the past, the hotel staff in these hotels were never infuriating. If a lack of staff doesn’t tell you the appalling

I stopped here one night with friends for my birthday. The hotel is easy to get to, and the location is excellent as it’s located on Broad Street, near Brindley Place which hosts a wide range of bars and pubs. So if you’re visiting Birmingham to have a drunken, night out or a special occasion then this hotel is perfect. There’s also parking on site behind the hotel which is very handy, unfortunately the car park isn’t discounted for guests stopping in the hotel. After waiting in a small queue, we attempted to check in at 14:30 (half hour earlier than check in ‘opens’) we were told the room wasn’t ready. Which wasn’t an issue as they had luggage storage available. We can back to check in at 16:00 and the queue was horrendous. I’ve never seen a queue as big as this to check in for a hotel before. We waited for 20 minutes until we checked in. The room was spacious, clean and well equipped. Although there were coffee cups left behind the curtains upon entry. The bathroom was very modern and had a walk in shower. The beds were unbelievably comfy and had plug sockets by the side of the bed which is a massive plus as not every hotel has this. Luckily, it was a quicker process checking out as you can just pop your keys in the ‘express checkout box’. Overall, a comfortable night stay in the heart of Birmingham, unfortunately the check in was horrific.

The room is quite spacious and clean. Only drawbacks are the sofa bed is too soft to sleep and the wooden floor will make cracking noises when someone is walking on it. Hotel staff are very helpful and patient. Breakfast is delicious! The hotel is conveniently located near the restaurant & bar area.

Shane was really helpful in suggesting food and drinks and it was a nice, relaxed environment at the bar for our food. The food was well presented and tasty. The superfood salad was really nice. Definitely have the extra chicken. The desserts were also excellent. Sticky toffee pudding and chocolate brownie were also great. Would recommend it for a relaxing drink and food. Great service. Shane and Jessica were really nice.

Let me start by saying I usually stay at The Village hotel but decided to give this one a try. This hotel as air con, the Village hotel does not. The location is great just off the M5, everything is easily accessible I booked a twin room, the beds were so comfortable as you would expect with a Mercure hotel. The room was decorated to a high standard and had everything you need to be comfortable. The only negative which might affect some people's stay is the bathroom, it has a mixer shower so the pressure of the water was very weak. I did speak to reception who informed me that in the near future this will be changed. The breakfast was delicious, if you want poached eggs just ask, they are happy to please. This is my now place to stay when visiting family in the midlands. Shout out to Gerry on reception who goes out of her way to make sure you have the best stay, she is a superstar! FYI in the Privilege room- you get a mini fridge and bottled water/juices and a modern shower rather than a mixer tap shower

I wrote the following email to the hotel upon check out, (14 days ago and no response) We booked a family room, as we had our little boy with us he is 4 and he could not reach the sink, you may like to consider in offering a child’s step when selling it as a family room so they can reach the sink and climb into bath. The shower curtain was not very clean and I didn’t feel comfortable when it was sticking to my skin whilst showering. See attached photo. There was no information given or provided in the room about the Wi-Fi. There was no TV guide on the television. No fridge in the room. One toilet roll for a family of three. No air conditioning We were notified that the swimming pool was closed which was disappointing but at least notified even though it didn’t reflect in the price. Breakfast was Luke warm buffet style so disappointing. The housekeeper knocked the door at 8.30am when we hadn’t checked out. I would like to mention we stayed at The Marriot in the centre of Birmingham on Tuesday night and this was a much better experience. All in all, it was a very disappointed stay.

GGuest UserLocation - Great location in the Jewellery Quarter (JQ). JQ is a nice part of Birmingham with some good bars and cafes and good tram access to the city centre. If you’re not from Birmingham it might be a bit out of the centre for your liking, at least a 20 minute walk from the city centre. Size - I went for the apartment which was 20m2. Bloc is designed on ‘Japanese space saving techniques’ and you can tell. This was the largest room they had available and I thought it was comfortable for one, but it’s marketed for two which would be a bit cramped in my opinion. Layout - Nicely furnished inside and very clean. Plenty of fresh towels and a nice en-suite shower room (albeit low water pressure). A bedroom and living room tv although these only have Freeview, which seemed apartment as the room is presented as ‘high-tech’, with lights and TV being controlled by a touchscreen. (It’s also easier to control the TV with the standard remote). Amenities - Two complementary bottles of water, some tea and coffee sachets, milk sachets and lotus biscuits in the room. A microwave available (in apartment, possibly not in double room). Hairdryer and coat hangers in the room but couldn’t see any iron or ironing board - perhaps available on request but would be nice for guests on business trips to have this in the room. Sleep - Reasonably comfortable bed for a short stay. Can heard rain dripping outside the window throughout the night despite windows closed which may disturb light sleepers, otherwise a quiet location. Value - Great value considering the prime location and the relatively spacious size for the price.

KKKB KKBLocation of the hotel was excellent. Parking is £13 for the night on site. Room was clean. The aircon did not work and it’s was so got my partner almost fainted. I called up the manager who came along with the housekeeping. The housekeeping tried to say oh it’s motion sensored and you got to wait 30 minutes or so to come on. I’m standing there looking at her like say what again?! I explained to her nobody has time to wait around for the air con to come on for that long like tia 1994! Even the manager stood there who agreed it was hot. All our food had gone cold. And eventually 30 mins later they moved us to the room next door and from the word go it was so much cooler and the air con was working.. wait for it.. without anybody being there for the “motion a/c” to work. They didn’t do anything about the food that went cold, the inconvenience. Manager did offer to get us drinks but we don’t drink so pointless. He offered to reimburse £13 for parking again not worth it. Overall it was a poor experience but slightly made up for it when we moved room. This is not really the marriot experience and we made the mistake not to use the usual aloft hotel east side who are always 5/5!

GGuest UserI arrived past the check-in time, and reception was not around to receive me. Nonetheless, there was a number on the door to call, and I was talked through the process of getting in with the code, and to collect my keys. The gentleman was incredibly patient with me, which was appreciated as it was late, and I was exhausted from a long work day and it was my first time in Birmingham so I got lost finding my way from the train station to the accommodation. The apartment was incredibly spacious. The living room and kitchen made me feel right at home, and the kitchen was well equipped. There were two bedrooms and two bathrooms - I was a single traveller so I didn't need to use all that space at all. The bed I slept in was marvellously comfortable. The bathroom was spacious, the water pressure was strong, and I really have zero complains about it. Location wise, there is a mall next door, although by the time I arrived it was closed, and when I left for my work meeting at 7am the next morning it wasn't opened yet. There were also some restaurants by the waterfront around the corner. I think this is a great accommodation for families or friends travelling together.

GGuest UserFirst time staying in this hotel so was unsure what to think however the room is so comfortable and clean. Neli, the member of staff at the front desk, was so helpful and checked us in quickly and answered all the questions we had. It was nice to be greeted with a smile when checking in. The rooms are on the small side but the layout worked very well and makes the most of the space. The bathroom is clean and provides shampoo, body wash etc for people who are travelling light. Luckily the rooms have air conditioning which is perfect for these hot summer nights. Definitely recommend, amazing deal for the price!

The hotel offers free breakfast; although the variety is limited, it's nice to have a cup of coffee in the morning. The rooms are very spacious with great views. Additionally, the shower has strong water pressure, making the overall experience perfect. The price is also reasonable! I would stay here again next time.

GGuest UserHotel is not in a bad location for trips out… But the hotel needs a lot of improvements! The breakfast buffet you are left waiting for them to replenish food items , you have to keep asking staff where are the cups for tea as none replaced there was queues because of the location of the toaster, be careful if you ask for water to be replaced in room as I was charged but then got a refund after complaining..the executive room was good but I know the standard rooms are not great. The staff were good but there needs better organisation. The pool area dated and no set time they seem to pick and choose open close times. We had quite a few issues not all mentioned here which we told reception about we was not happy and noticed other customers complaining.. we would not stay again and certainly not 4 star 3 at most .. can’t comment on spa treatments as did not use but looking at the spa I’m sure there are better ones around. Golf course 9 hole in good condition but outside hotel area need tidying up bit scruffy.
