"Location-wise: It's relatively close to the city center, about 1-1.5km from Shimotori Shopping Street and Kumamoto Castle, making it walkable for a city stroll. It's a bit far from Kumamoto Station, not suitable for walking, but you can take the Kumamoto City Tram A Line to and from the station, which takes about 12 minutes.
Based on my personal stay this time, the hotel service was friendly. One of the front desk staff members was very diligent in explaining the check-in process in Chinese, which I really appreciated! The hotel offers self-service toiletries on the first floor. The room was clean and quiet. The Standard Double Room was indeed quite small, but we managed to fit one large and one small suitcase. Two complimentary bottles of mineral water were provided. Breakfast was good and available for purchase."
"My family had a wonderful stay at this hotel. It is conveniently located on the upper floors of AMU Plaza, right next to Kumamoto Station, with a dedicated elevator on the ground floor that takes you directly to the lobby. The rooms are clean and comfortable, and the staff are consistently friendly and polite. The only minor downside is that the breakfast selection is a little limited. That said, the hotel’s excellent location more than makes up for it, as there are plenty of cafés and restaurants just steps away in and around AMU Plaza."
"The hotel facilities are a bit old, so if you're sensitive about hygiene, you might want to reconsider. It feels like they do a thorough cleaning, but some of the equipment is dated, and there are signs of wear and tear that can't be completely scrubbed away. Our family of three stayed here; it had three beds and a good amount of space. There's also a coin-operated laundry facility within the hotel.
The best part about this hotel is definitely the breakfast – a rich variety of options and excellent value. The location is perfect for shopping, with Shimotori Shopping Street just a 3-5 minute walk away. At the entrance of the shopping street, there's an Isomaru Suisan (a chain seafood restaurant) that serves fantastic eel rice. You can order a whole eel and add rice separately for more eel, or just get the regular eel rice bowl, which is a bit cheaper. Considering how great the breakfast is, this hotel offers really good value for money. I would personally recommend it."
"Convenient location! Need to walk about 5-10mins from the tram stop but it’s very bearable in Oct as the weather was cooling. Room is not very big - standard Japanese hotel but it has everything needed. Microwave is shared at the hotel lobby and they have tea and snacks at level 2 of the hotel."
"Three of us stayed at Sanwan for 2600 yuan, and it was pure enjoyment! 😎
**Facilities**: The facilities are very new. We took turns sleeping on the sofa bed, and it was surprisingly comfortable – no back pain! The room was also spacious enough for three suitcases to be fully open, which was perfectly acceptable.
**Cleanliness**: It was extremely clean. A big thank you to the housekeeping staff; even though we ate a lot every day, everything was spotless the next morning.
**Environment**: The location is excellent, very close to Shangxia Tong. There are two convenience stores downstairs, and a tram stop not far away. It's also conveniently located near all the attractions. Highly recommend!"
"The hotel was very clean. Our triple room, equipped with three beds, provided a very comfortable sleep. In the early hours of the morning, we experienced a minor earthquake; it felt like being gently rocked in a cradle.
To get here from JR Kumamoto Station, simply cross the road and take the tram (Shogunmachi A-line) to Karashimacho (stop 8). The ride takes approximately 10-15 minutes. From the tram stop, it's an 8-10 minute walk using Google or Apple Maps.
The hotel's location is very quiet. While there isn't a convenience store directly next door, you'll find a 7-Eleven at the beginning of a main street after you get off the tram – a good spot to grab any necessities before heading to the hotel. Additionally, there are plenty of restaurants conveniently located near the station."
"Great stay at this clean, conveniently located hotel. It’s right inside a covered shopping arcade that connects to many food options, and also just across the street from the tram stop and a large mall housing the bus terminal. Room was comfortable and of a good size. Free drinks are available at a quiet lounge area for guests, and there’s also a nice public bath to relax at too. Would recommend."
"This hotel is, without a doubt, the most satisfying I've stayed at during my solo trips to Japan over the past few years! 👍5☆☆☆☆☆
1. The hotel is conveniently located right next to Kumamoto Station, just a 3-4 minute walk to the left after exiting (Photo 3). The rooms are spacious, and the bathrooms are large. They provide complimentary bottled water. It's quiet at night. Photos 5 & 6 show the view from room 714. The front desk staff are patient, professional, and attentive. 👍
2. There are many dining options inside the train station, making meals very convenient.
3. There are bus and tram stops right outside the hotel. You can use IC credit cards (UnionPay, VISA) and Alipay directly on all Kumamoto city buses and trams for payment, which is incredibly convenient! We walked to Kumamoto Castle, stopping at Kitaoka Shrine ⛩ along the way. We took Tram Line A back. It's very close to Kumamoto Castle and the city center.
4. The next morning, we headed to Mount Aso. We bought tickets to Aso Station at Kumamoto Station, and there were several train times to choose from. Very convenient!
If you're planning a city walk in Kumamoto and a visit to Mount Aso, I highly recommend this hotel."
"This hotel completely eliminated my travel anxiety! The airport shuttle bus drops you off right downstairs, so I didn't have to lug my luggage an extra step – super convenient for tourists. There's a shopping mall right below, so I could grab food whenever I wanted, and a supermarket made it easy to pick up snacks and drinks for the room. Kumamoto Castle and Suizenji Jojuen Garden are both within walking distance, and right across the street is the Shimotori Shopping Street, a central arcade district in Kumamoto with pharmacies, clothing stores, and dessert shops galore. It was so easy and pleasant to shop and eat, and perfect for finding souvenirs. The hotel room was spacious and clean, and the bedding was soft and comfortable, guaranteeing a good night's sleep after a long day. The breakfast had a great variety of both Japanese and Western options, with fresh ingredients and delicious flavors. Overall, it's excellent value for money. I'll definitely choose this hotel again next time I'm in Kumamoto!"
"The hotel employees all of them were showed a good attitude and communication was no problem for foreigners.
The location is great — it’s close to Kumamoto Castle, and there’s a shopping mall just about a 10-minute walk away.
I made a reservation for a triple room for two nights. The sofa bed was uncomfortable, and the air conditioner could not adjust the airflow direction, which caused us to catch a cold.
One more thing, the room key had to be returned and kept at the counter whenever we went out for the day."

Outstanding
EEtsukoThank you for your continued support. It's been a year since my last stay at Nakajimaya Dyeing and Inn. I received a handwritten welcome message upon check-in and I am truly grateful for the heartwarming hospitality. Every time I stay here, I always feel like I'm coming home to a cozy, relaxing place. The owner's warm and kind hospitality can be felt in every corner of this inn. And whenever I stay here, it's always spotlessly clean, so I can stay comfortably. The shared kitchen is comfortable and I always cook my own meals. The shared living room is also spacious and comfortable. The shower room is hygienic and has plenty of hot water. Of all the guesthouses and dormitories I've stayed at, this is my favorite. I stay here every time. I recommend this inn as it's a place you can stay with peace of mind.
GGuest UserThe view from the location is really good, and the window faces the Kumamoto Castle Tower. The room is not small, and a 28-inch large suitcase can be spread out. The room facilities, especially the bathroom, are a bit old, but it is no problem for domestic three-star hotels. The breakfast list costs 2,000 (1,800 for reservation one day in advance), which is Japanese style and may not suit the appetite of all Chinese people. There is Chinese service at the front desk.
There are two places that are not up to expectations: First, there are limited buses at the door. You can go out according to the schedule, but there may not be a suitable bus back to the hotel; at more than 10 o'clock on the first night, I got off the tram and dragged the suitcase and walked uphill for more than 10 minutes. Second, Kumamoto Castle is still under renovation. The hotel is facing the north gate, but the north gate is only open on weekends and holidays. On weekdays, you can go through the south gate, which is several hundred meters farther than the tram station.
JJeff YNI originally planned to go to Yushima to see cats the next morning, so I chose this hotel that is closer to the pier, opposite Aeon and Daison.
Although the room is small, it is very clean and hygienic, and it is very quiet at night, which is commendable. The hotel also provides parking for 1,000 yen per night.
The downside is that the air conditioning is directed directly in your face so you can't jump on it too much. The staff at the front desk didn't understand English at all, but luckily there was a translation machine to help, and they were very punctual to leave at 11 o'clock, otherwise it would be 1,000 yen!
GGuest UserAlthough it took a lot of setbacks to find this homestay (I thought it was a hotel 🏨) (Ctrip's name is not accurate at all, depressed 😒), but you can’t say that I would choose a place to live [呲牙], if not outside It’s dark, I can’t take pictures, otherwise the effect would be better: next to a small river, coming in is a small garden, very quiet, the room is an ensuite, everything is there, I will come back to the hot spring after eating delicious food in the evening. ♨️, have a good night’s sleep, and you will have a good walk around tomorrow morning[悠闲][悠闲]
花花蓮博愛泊心境民宿Located in Ginza, the center of Kumamoto, close to the pedestrian street, the capsule room also has a bath that can be used at any time, and there are also clothes washing and drying facilities. The dining area and toilet environment are all very clean. If you are not staying, you can also buy the bath separately. There are many choices. The most affordable room in Kumamoto area on Saturday
LLei,taoOverall, a fantastic stay! I really appreciated the complimentary drinks and the spacious bathtub in the room. The service was excellent, and I'll definitely be returning for another visit. My only minor critique is that the location isn't the most convenient, but despite that, I found the overall experience to be very satisfactory.
TTammy MakThe hotel is located right at one of the very busy shopping streets of Kumamoto with many shops and restaurants. We had had very pleasant stroll there and had dinner and snack.
The room is very spacious and clean. The two matt glass windows cannot be opened per se. One has light and the other very little.
The soap provided is of better quality than that of the other hotels I have stayed in. The dispenser says Kao.
GGuest UserI honestly do not know where to start, I booked the hotel without really knowing much about Kumamoto Prefecture. After arriving in Kumamoto City and then realising Ueki Onsen is another 40 minute bus ride I was thinking oh dear where am I staying. After arriving at the hotel I was greeted by the manager of the hotel who showed me to my room and gave me a tour of the facilities. Once settled in I realised there isn't great public transport around and I primarily wanted to see Beppu and Yufuin during my stay, I enquired with the manager on where I might be able to rent a car, with little to no Japanese language under my belt he took it upon himself to reserve a vehicle for me and offered to drive me himself to collect it. He then also said he would take me back to return it a few days later. After my trips to Beppu and Yufui village (Not to be missed) and not to miss the outstanding and beautiful surroundings in Uekimachi and the Aso region. The manager and I set off to return my hire car, on the way back he took me to Kikuchi shrine to pray and also gifted me coffee and cake. They also accommodated me with use of the on site onsen (amazing) after hours as I'm heavily tattooed. I feel truly grateful to have found this hidden gem of rural Japan and if you are thinking of traveling this great country I emplore you to go off the beaten path. I experienced untold kindness during my stay and have memories of a life time. Thank you so much guys
