It is, in name and reality, the best hotel in Spain. This was my third stay. Gary’s room is really nice.

Students should stay at least once, and the wine tour is included in the price. The room we stayed in was in the main building. There are two buildings. The other annex has guest rooms, gyms, swimming pools and other facilities. Living in the main building faces the mountains and wild mountains. Vineyards, refreshing. The room type is very exquisite and the design is also very clever! Breakfast is a pity. The view is of course unbeatable, but the dishes are a little lacking. However, the poached eggs are very good, which adds a lot of points. Overall, I highly recommend it, but the price is really not cheap.

The hotel is really very beautiful and its location makes it much easier to get to know bodegas, laguardia Haro and logrono - always by car. It’s close to the road and has easy access. All the employees are very kind, especially at the Bar, Elena. He attended us with great friendliness and also provided excellent tips. The problem in my opinion was only 1. In addition to being dated, the bathroom has a strong sewage odo, despite very well manteined by the housekeeper

We had a nice stay at this hotel. The room was large, comfortable and nicely designed. The bathroom was also large and with both a stand-alone shower and a separate bath. My problem with this hotel was that it wasn’t spectacular- which honestly I expect for 600 euros per night. Yes the exterior is stunning. But the service was below average, particularly in the cafes and restaurants. We sat down in the cafe restaurant for lunch and after 15 minutes of waiting nobody and even been over to ask for our order so we walked out. We went up to the library for drinks and had to call down to the cafe every time we needed anything. Breakfast was terrible. I have seen better selections in French Motels and the egg special was cold when it got to us. Items that ran out were not replaced and there was only on flavour of yogurt available. Perhaps not a big deal but again - it was 600 euros per night! Sorry. But this is not a hotel I’d be rushing back to , which is a shame because we’d been very excited about staying here.
Response from Property: Dear TravellingBasfords, Thank you for being our guests. I am very sorry that we did not meet your expectations and for the inconvenience caused during your stay especially in the Winebar (Cafe) and during the breakfast. I will speak to the team and see what has happened in order to improve for the future - usually we are getting a lot of compliments about the team, many of them have been with s since day one of the hotel - but we will have to look into the training of the new ones. September and October are the busiest month of the year - this is also reflected in the rates, but off-season lower rates can be found. Thank you again and once more my apologies. Very best regards from Elciego Stefan F.

For the first time in my life i was accused of stealing something in a hotel. I checked out with my partner this morning paying more than a thousend euros for one night stay, dinner and wine we bought at the bodega and, a few hours later our credt card was charged 149.99 euros because we had brought , vg STOLEN, the shampoo, shower gel and conditioner cannisters. We DID NOT BRING THEM, and fortunatly we can afford the best quality products. AND WE ARE NOT ROBBERS. PERIOD Is incredible that a 5 stars hotel can ruin a stay that was really nice till this evenning. We are complaing to Marriott headquarters and we will use ALL the available measures to CORRECT A SITUATION THAT IS CAUSING A DIFFICULT TO EVALUATE DISTRESS THAT EVEN AN EXCUSE AND REFUND WON'T BE ABLE TO COMPENSATE. Response from Property: Dear saojose170, Thank you very much for being our guest and my most sincere apologies for the inconvenience caused after your check out. I know that you have already been in contact with my team and that they already explained the situation to you. Unfortunately, we did charge you by mistake and once you informed the hotel, we immediately refunded all the charges including a compensation. At no time we did accuse you of any wrongdoing or doubt your words, we only charged you by mistake, which we admitted without discussion and already explained to you by email. Once more my apologies, I hope that this post stay incident does not have a negative impact on your overall memories of your visit to our hotel. I am away from the hotel at the moment, but I can give you a call after my return, in case you prefer to speak to me personally. Should you ever be back in the region, please let me know. Thank you and very best regards Stefan F.

A beautiful hotel surrounded by a small vine yard. The food was great, staff friendly, and the room was just fabulous overlooking the church with a big beautiful terrace. The rooms are new, and well designed. We had a King Bed, Elciego Village View, Terrace, Premium Guest Room, Spa Wing. Just loved it. Only complaints. First they never told us they had bikes which would have made it easier to tour the little village. And when we asked for sangria over dinner they refused - because it’s a cheap wine drink. This was mildly disappointing.

This was one of the best hotels that my wife and I have ever stayed out. The architecture is amazing and our room had the best view. The service was equally impressive. Our breakfasts were amazing and we enjoy the spa. I would definitely go back. Sometimes at expensive hotels, I get buyer's remorse, but not here.

The hotel is great in almost every aspect. The only problem is that, for the usual rate, it does not feel like you are getting what you paid for. The room is confortable, the bed is super comfy, the spa is average, the restaurant is good. But it takes some courage to charge you 60 euros for a bottle of wine in the restaurant that was produce at the bodega and it is being sold for 20 euros in the store at the hotel. Too much for a wine service. The breakfast is “a la carte”. It may sound great, but it really isn’t. The options are limited and the service is far from being stellar. As a point for reference, at the same period I soent a couple of days at Castillo Termal Monasterio de Valbuena. It cost me half the price and there is simply no point to start a comparison between the two. Castilla Termal is WAY superior in every single aspect, from the checkin in a contortable chair while you drink cava, to the breakfast, to the whole ambience at the hotel. I would easily recommend Marques de Riscal if the rate would be half of it. At the current rate, nothing can justify it, not even the beautiful architecture and the great view.

We splurged on a stay in the Gehry suite, the best room in the hotel, and it was worth it. It is one of only 14 rooms in the main building; the rest are in the spa wing, a more typical modern building which also houses the spa and pool, connected via a glassed-in skywalk. The suite is unique, huge and comfortable. We enjoyed sitting on the terrace and seeing the view of Elciego. Service was excellent, from the moment of our arrival. We found a bottle of wine and a chocolate cake to welcome us; I ordered a cheese plate to enjoy with the wine and they delivered it promptly. Each day we received another bottle of wine and a treat - Iberian ham one day, delicous chocolate-covered strawberries the next. A tour of the onsite winery was included with our room. Also had a very good massage at the spa. We had dinner at 1860 Tradicion, the more casual restaurant, and it was good though not remarkable. The glassed-in terrace was a very pleasant place for breakfast each morning. In addition to the buffet items, each morning they had a different featured egg dish, or you could ask for whatever style of eggs you wish. The town of Elciego is tiny and doesn't have a lot to see, but it's a 10-minute drive to Laguardia which we really enjoyed, and had a great dinner there at Bodegas Mayor de Migueloa.

My wife and I have been to more than 20 wine regions around the world. We are neophiles of the wine´s world and gastronomy. We had a great experience dining with our wine friends at the Gastronomico restaurant last saturday. The service from sommelier Aline was brilliant and fancy. She answered all our questions with high knowledge and skill. The waitress was very professional. The manager was also involved in the service taking care of details. Mr. Vasc was on other tasks, but he had the courtesy to go and greet us at the table. All very well coordinated. They make a great team. The tasting menu is well prepared and the service is elegant. The place is unique. Vielen Dank. D.

The hotel is breathtaking and we really enjoyed the vineyard visit session. But we were there for my birthday and it was a surprise that my husband tried to organize with hotel’s team to bring a bday cake right at 12 o’clock at night. The cake came 30 mins later and they asked if we wanted a candle as well, it must be a joke. Other than that, we tried the Michelin restaurant in the hotel and it was nowhere close to Michelin standarts. We even shared this feedback with the restaurant team and they said “we agree”. Another moment must be a joke. Overall I can only give 3 out of 5 thanks to the decoration and the vineyard tour.
Response from Property: Dear MisaGeziyor, Thank you very much for being our guest and for sharing your experience with us and the readers on social media. I am grateful for your feedback, and I am very sorry about the late delivery of your birthday cake. Also, my apologies that you did not enjoy our gastronomic restaurant. The menu was created by Francis Paniego, who is also responsible for another 2 Star and one more 1 Star restaurant - he is also well renown in Spain from several TV programs. His cooking style is focused on the special dishes of the Rioja wine country and the products are sourced locally - the way of cooking is very time and labor intensive - and we are getting a lot of compliments from our guests. I believe that our waiters agreeing to your comments was a combination between "Lots in Translation" and trying to be polite. Thank you very much for the nice comments about the hotel itself and the tour of the winery. I have shared your feedback with the team, so we can make sure to improve. Once more my apologies for the inconvenience caused and I am looking forward to welcoming you again in the future. Very best regards Stefan F. General Manager
