Amazing
GGuest UserThe location is superb, room was clean, spacious and with a nice balcony. The room provided all you need on a leisure trip.
The only downside was it was super complicated and time consuming to contact the hostel for entrance pin, check-in procedure and check-in number. We asked the front desk receptionist of our previous hotel to call the hostel number stated on trip.com booking confirmation email in morning, but no one picked up; called again at 3pm, and the hostel hotline said the number was wrong and referred us to call another number. If we did not have the assistance from a Japanese local receptionist from another hotel, I dont think we could get the entrance pin and check-in procedure information smoothly.
I recommend this hostel to Japanese local, or tourists with a Japanese mobile number to make calls/able to find assistance from Japanese local people.
GGuest UserI booked this hotel on Trip.com for my summer trip to Japan, and my stay was excellent! Self check-in is available from 3 PM. The hotel boasts a convenient location and pleasant surroundings, though its facade is quite unassuming and easy to miss. Our connecting family rooms (two rooms) weren't particularly spacious but were clean and well-equipped, featuring an air purifier and an LG clothes dryer. Guests can also enjoy a public bath on the 12th floor. Located just 1.4 km from Kagoshima-Chuo Station, the area around the hotel offers a plethora of unique dinner options, such as the famous 'Wagaiebi' izakaya, specialty soba noodle shops, and a wide array of other local delicacies. Furthermore, drugstores, bakeries, and supermarkets are all conveniently accessible. While summer prices tend to be a bit higher, the hotel offers very reasonable rates during off-peak seasons.
1118691****I've stayed at Dormy Inn Kagoshima multiple times, and everything about the hotel is excellent.
Location: The hotel is about a 10-15 minute walk from JR Kagoshima-Chuo Station. The Sakurajima Ferry Terminal is also roughly a 10-15 minute walk away, making it very convenient for getting around. The Tenmonkan shopping district is right nearby, offering great options for shopping and dining.
Cleanliness: The hotel's facilities are relatively new and kept spotlessly clean.
Service: The front desk staff are very professional and highly efficient.
Other: The onsen (hot spring) is fantastic. Although not large, it even has an open-air bath (rotenburo), making for a wonderfully relaxing soak after returning to the hotel.
LLinuswangI've always preferred staying near JR stations for their convenience. Due to the heavy rain, I couldn't take the Kirishima train, so I opted for a day trip to Kagoshima instead. However, the surprise that morning was an earthquake – I was on the 8th floor and it shook me awake. The hotel was worth the price, but checking out at 10 am was really tough. I was woken up by a phone call to come downstairs to check out… I need to be more careful next time.
__ucweb1366136****The hotel is located in the Planetarium area, with an airport bus stop directly diagonally opposite. It's also just over a 10-minute walk to South Pier. Our twin room was a decent size, with enough space to open two 28-inch suitcases. The room offered a good view, but unfortunately, the windows don't open. In the bathroom, the water pressure was strong and the drain worked well, but the water temperature was a bit hard to adjust, fluctuating between hot and cold. There's a lip into the bathroom that felt a bit wobbly, so care is needed when stepping on it. The bathtub's material and design weren't ideal, which older guests should particularly note. The surrounding area offers plenty of shopping and dining options. Sukiya is right next door, and there's a well-established unagi (eel rice) restaurant nearby that serves delicious food. The hotel's cleanliness was alright, but I did find some hair. It seems the standards aren't quite comparable to what they were years ago when local staff were responsible for room upkeep, a difference perhaps influenced by the increasing presence of foreign workers in many cities. The front desk is on the second floor, and most services are semi-self-service, with self-service luggage lockers available.
ZZheyanIt's about a 20-minute walk from Kagoshima Chuo Station.
The Takamibaba tram stop is right in front of the bath.
The large public bath is great.
There aren't many washing areas, so I don't know when it gets busy, but I didn't have to wait long.
The breakfast was delicious and had a wide variety of food.
It was a buffet of Japanese, Western and Chinese food. I would have preferred if there were more desserts.
It was a shame that there was no cereal.
The yogurt was delicious.
It never gets full, but as rumored, there is quite a long queue from 6:30.
The staff are not bad at all.
It felt like they were doing the bare minimum.
DdavidzdlThe location is excellent, it's easy to find and very close to Kagoshima Central West Exit. The hotel staff can communicate in English without any barriers. The breakfast of the hotel is very rich when taking a tourist one-day line. The hotel does not charge a cleaning fee. The cost performance is very high and I am satisfied!
GGuest UserEven though this is an old hotel and it shows in its facilities and overall design, the service and amenities you get as a solo traveller is worth thw price you pay for an overnight stay. The room is clean albeit small but sufficient. Some points to take note if you're planning to book:
This is close to the central station so it's juat a block away from major shopping and transport options.
The hotel closes its front desk and doors at 11 pm to 7 am. Checkin before 11 pm. Going in and out of the hotel at that time is possible if you use your key card to open the front doors.
Walls are thin and it's very possible that you would hear your neighbor.
There's free coffee and drinks at the lobby.
QQiao YingIt’s only a 6-minute walk from Kagoshimachuo Station! I stayed in the Tatami Room which can be relatively small for people with big luggages. Like other hostels, the toilets, shower rooms, and common space are shared among the floor. However, I do find the shower area a little small. Many of us wouldn’t enter the shower area if somebody was using the sink because the sink was right in front of one shower cubicle HAHAHA. And yes, there’s only one sink in the common shower area.
I would recommend this place if you are doing a short stay in Kagoshima because there’s lots of shops and restaurants around the area! By the way, it’s located along the same lane as the famous “tonkatsu kawakyu とんかつ川久”. Please try it because it’s the best tonkatsu I’ve ever eaten!
KK Hoffman (Canada)It was too far away from Kagoshima-chuo Railway station to walk. Have to take the bus. First city in Japan that I could not use my SUICA card on the buses. Make sure you got small change.
However, it's only about 10 minutes walk to the Tenmonkan Street, the shopping/eating area in Kagoshima.
Nice kitchen if you want to do your own cooking. There is a vending machine on the 4th floor with beer and vodka on the rocks. Also, there are 2 laundry machines and dryers - one set on the third floor and the other on the rooftop. The rooftop had a gas dryer which is much better at drying clothes.
