Great
MMrBlueSkyThe accommodation is just opposite the Central Station, only a 2-minute walk away. The hotel is also easy to find and its appearance is very conspicuous. The room is very big and can open 2 suitcases. The room is very clean and sanitary. There is a washing machine in the room and a clothes dryer in the bathroom, which is very useful. Will stay again next time.
__ucweb1366136****The hotel is located in the Planetarium area, with an airport bus stop directly diagonally opposite. It's also just over a 10-minute walk to South Pier. Our twin room was a decent size, with enough space to open two 28-inch suitcases. The room offered a good view, but unfortunately, the windows don't open. In the bathroom, the water pressure was strong and the drain worked well, but the water temperature was a bit hard to adjust, fluctuating between hot and cold. There's a lip into the bathroom that felt a bit wobbly, so care is needed when stepping on it. The bathtub's material and design weren't ideal, which older guests should particularly note. The surrounding area offers plenty of shopping and dining options. Sukiya is right next door, and there's a well-established unagi (eel rice) restaurant nearby that serves delicious food. The hotel's cleanliness was alright, but I did find some hair. It seems the standards aren't quite comparable to what they were years ago when local staff were responsible for room upkeep, a difference perhaps influenced by the increasing presence of foreign workers in many cities. The front desk is on the second floor, and most services are semi-self-service, with self-service luggage lockers available.
KKHop5mins' walk to Kagoshimachuo Station. Could hear trains passing by now and then but it doesn't really affect sleep. Polite staff. We stayed for two nights and got slightly different breakfast options each morning which is a plus!
GGuest UserI've stayed at Dormy Inn Kagoshima multiple times, and everything about the hotel is excellent.
Location: The hotel is about a 10-15 minute walk from JR Kagoshima-Chuo Station. The Sakurajima Ferry Terminal is also roughly a 10-15 minute walk away, making it very convenient for getting around. The Tenmonkan shopping district is right nearby, offering great options for shopping and dining.
Cleanliness: The hotel's facilities are relatively new and kept spotlessly clean.
Service: The front desk staff are very professional and highly efficient.
Other: The onsen (hot spring) is fantastic. Although not large, it even has an open-air bath (rotenburo), making for a wonderfully relaxing soak after returning to the hotel.
GGuest UserVery conveniently located close to the tram (which goes to the location to catch the bus to Kagoshima airport), as well as other places obviously. Also about ten minute walk to Sakurajima ferry and about a fifteen minute walk to the high speed ferry that goes to Yakushima.
Has laundry and drying that you need to pay for on the first floor. Rooms are typical Japanese business hotel rooms but not ultra small or cramped. I stayed here for several days and enjoyed the view of Sakurajima in the morning and night.
Staff are friendly and prompt.
WWendykao3I didn't get to fully explore Kagoshima this time, but I'll definitely go back and do it properly. This hotel was just a stopover for me to catch a baseball game, so I picked one near the station that offered good value for money. It was quite comfortable with a stylish vibe, right in the middle of the shopping area, and only about a 3-5 minute walk to the station. There are plenty of great places to explore around the station, and you can also take the city loop bus to nearby attractions.
QQiao YingIt’s only a 6-minute walk from Kagoshimachuo Station! I stayed in the Tatami Room which can be relatively small for people with big luggages. Like other hostels, the toilets, shower rooms, and common space are shared among the floor. However, I do find the shower area a little small. Many of us wouldn’t enter the shower area if somebody was using the sink because the sink was right in front of one shower cubicle HAHAHA. And yes, there’s only one sink in the common shower area.
I would recommend this place if you are doing a short stay in Kagoshima because there’s lots of shops and restaurants around the area! By the way, it’s located along the same lane as the famous “tonkatsu kawakyu とんかつ川久”. Please try it because it’s the best tonkatsu I’ve ever eaten!
GGuest UserThe room is well equipped, clean and new. It is spacious. No reception in the hotel. But the hotel did not send me self check-in information e.g. entrance access code. Luckily, somebody went out from the hotel when I arrived. Otherwise, I could not get in. There is a iPad on the 1st floor lobby for self check-in. I could then complete the self check-in. I would say the hotel provide a perfect stay if they sent me the self check-in information in advance.
GGuest UserEven though this is an old hotel and it shows in its facilities and overall design, the service and amenities you get as a solo traveller is worth thw price you pay for an overnight stay. The room is clean albeit small but sufficient. Some points to take note if you're planning to book:
This is close to the central station so it's juat a block away from major shopping and transport options.
The hotel closes its front desk and doors at 11 pm to 7 am. Checkin before 11 pm. Going in and out of the hotel at that time is possible if you use your key card to open the front doors.
Walls are thin and it's very possible that you would hear your neighbor.
There's free coffee and drinks at the lobby.
KK Hoffman (Canada)It was too far away from Kagoshima-chuo Railway station to walk. Have to take the bus. First city in Japan that I could not use my SUICA card on the buses. Make sure you got small change.
However, it's only about 10 minutes walk to the Tenmonkan Street, the shopping/eating area in Kagoshima.
Nice kitchen if you want to do your own cooking. There is a vending machine on the 4th floor with beer and vodka on the rocks. Also, there are 2 laundry machines and dryers - one set on the third floor and the other on the rooftop. The rooftop had a gas dryer which is much better at drying clothes.
