Nungwi Hotels with Airport pickup service

Very good resort. Facilities are top quality and well-maintained. Food was very yummy, although breakfast could offer more variety for a 5-star hotel (e.g. there was no smoked salmon for breakfast - I consider salmon to be standard at 5-star hotels catering to international clientele). Staff are well-trained and very professional. The resort also offers spa services as well as tour bookings, but we did not avail of these. For our travel dates the all-inclusive package on trip.com was by far the best value for money compared to booking directly or through any other website. One potential area for improvement is the provision of a mini rack on the balcony/veranda where guests can hang up wet clothes after a tour - would be a nice thing, which I've seen at some other resorts, as some guests just want their clothes to dry, not necessarily washed.

Perfect location, the balcony is facing the beach. The environment is in African style and simple, don’t expect much luxury. The breakfast had not much western food. But ok, you are not at home. It’s in the middle of the nightlife spots. Africana, Istanbul and Cocobello are all in a 10 minutes walking distance. Fully recommended!

Staying here was nothing short of a disappointment. The grounds were poorly maintained, with a stark contrast between the reality and the deceptively flattering photos. It felt like stepping into a budget misrepresentation rather than the picturesque retreat promised. The bedroom was a disaster in itself. The mosquito mesh—a critical feature in this region—was in shambles. While some holes were crudely patched, others gaped open. It was as though they’d started a repair job but couldn’t muster the energy to finish. The bathroom, however had no door—just a flimsy curtain hanging limply between the bedroom and the bathroom, and it didn’t even reach the floor. Privacy? Forget it. Worse still, an unfinished wall dominated the space, a ghastly eyesore of overflowing mortar and untidy brickwork. It wasn’t trendy; it screamed laziness and neglect. This monstrosity also served as a backdrop for the bed, so there was no escaping it. Practicalities were no better. There was no fridge in the room, which is unacceptable in a country with such heat. Renting one cost an additional $5 per day—an insult considering the circumstances. The balcony curtain was laughably inadequate, leaving you at the mercy of the blazing morning sun. As for the balcony door itself, it required Herculean strength to open or close. Nature’s intrusion wasn’t a feature; it was a problem. Lizards wandering into the room were met with a shrug and the dismissive advice that “this is nature, don’t worry.” The Masai were kind enough to spray for mosquitoes but offered no solution for the reptilian invaders. The lack of a generator was another glaring failure. Daily power cuts, sometimes multiple times a day, left us stranded in darkness—something we hadn’t experienced at any other hotels in Zanzibar. And then there was the food. Half-board was a joke. The same uninspired menu was recycled every day, with additional charges for certain items—dollars only, of course. Drinks, even soft ones, weren’t included. If you fancied anything from their so-called barbecue menu, prepare to pay extra as that wasn’t covered either. Overall, this was an unforgivable letdown, riddled with negligence, poor planning, and blatant penny-pinching at every turn.

Stayed @ Smiles Beach Hotel for 3 nights, 4 days. Meal plan was Half board (Breakfast & Dinner). Road Access The road to the hotel starts off ok, but towards the middle has HUGE pot holes and after a rain it’s completely filled up with mud. The driver has to move very slowly to avoid any damage to the car. On arrival On arrival we were greeted warmly with a nice cold drink, check in was quick and we were taken to our rooms. We booked 2 rooms. Both were located upstairs but not in the same building. To get to the rooms we have to climb a spiral staircase. Rooms The upper floor has 2 rooms side by side. The room door is a split door with a sliding lock and a padlock. There were a few outdoor furniture in the balcony area. The room itself looked very clean and smelled clean. Coffee & tea station, LCD TV, Mini Fridge, Safety deposit box. The bed is built into the room walls. The orientation of the bed is weird. I am an average height guy, 5’8”, and when I lie down to sleep, from my ankle down is off the bed. But if the bed was orientated the other way, there would be more than enough room. The rooms are old and needs some TLC, ceiling is wood and black dirt keeps falling from the cracks. We were told that the room service will come over around 7.30 at every night to “turn d own” the room. Technically, spray some bug spray outside the room door and setup the mosquito nets. From our 3 nights, this happened only on the last day. That too, the net had a 1cm hole. Bathroom Pretty large bathroom, basic toiletries available (No body lotion or dental kit). The toilets are clean. The sink is a little on the high side. If there are children, it’s a bit hard to reach to brush teeth etc. Garden, pool and private beach front Garden is kept very neat and tidy. We saw a gardener every morning sweeping the grounds. Pool is clean. The tiles on the outside of the pool were cracked and need to be careful while walking. Especially with bare feet. Private beach front is nice and clean. Its, on a higher elevation so you get a nice view. Hawkers and Masai beach boys The are friendly, but can become a bit annoying after some time. So best advice is to be polite, say no thank you. (they are not allowed in the private beach area) Food & Restaurant Breakfast was not bad, it’s a buffet style menu and had a decent variety, each morning something different. Sometimes in the morning there a few flies around and will hover over the fresh fruit. Dinner was a la carte menu and different for each day as well. The downside is that the food quality drops when they have more occupancy. The biggest issue we had was the meal service times. We had to wait almost 1 hour between entree and main and another 45 min for dessert. This was the case every day. There are few felines (cats) inside the restaurant premises. They roam freely and sometimes come and rub themselves on your legs. There were a few other guests that were not very comfortable with this. Als

Perfect week, not having many bookings we had a free upgrade of our room, in front of the sea view beach, wonderful! The staff is super nice and available, manager Cyrus also organized a surprise dinner on the beach for us, very pleasant! The sea in front of the resort is amazing, subject to the phenomenon of the floods, often so it is difficult to bath, but walking along the sand languages that emerge the landscape is crazy! For the tours you can book on site with a local tour operator, Abdul is taking care of it, who has satisfied us in every request, also organizing private tours in such a way that they are free to decide on movements and timetables, It was nice and fun to spend time together! The position of Tanzanite is good, walking out c is a few steps the Baraka aquarium where you can notice with the turtles, and 10 minutes drive c is nunungwi beach, adding another 10 minutes you get to kendwa that are two of the most beautiful beaches of Zanzibar.

We stayed at the Zanzibari Hotel in August 2024 and we made the best decision. What we really loved, is the location. The hotel is tucked away from all the noise providing tranquility and peace while it's still a walking distance to town and restaurants. At high tide, we enjoyed looking and listening to the crashing waves and at low tide, we enjoyed taking a stroll on the beach. Nestled along the stunning shores of Nungwi, this hotel combines the perfect blend of luxury, cultural authenticity, and warm hospitality. Accommodation: The rooms at The Zanzibari are tastefully designed, reflecting the local architecture and vibrant colors of Zanzibar. Our room was spacious, meticulously clean, and equipped with modern amenities, ensuring a comfortable stay for us. The private balcony provided breathtaking views of the Indian Ocean, and we loved waking up to a stunning sunrise. Amenities: The hotel boasts an impressive range of amenities. We loved the infinity pool overlooking the ocean, which provided a serene space to unwind while soaking up the tropical sun. We also liked to have lunch at the tables by the pool or sit at the bar in the evening. Dining: The restaurant space looks luxury and we loved the bar made out of a huge old boat. The menu was great and chefs are dedicated to using fresh, local ingredients, and the menu offered delicious choices for everyone. Service: The Zanzibari staff was very attentive and friendly. From the moment we arrived, we were treated like family and we were helped with any questions or requests we had. Conclusion: For those looking for a blend of relaxation, culture, and exceptional service, The Zanzibari Hotel is a perfect choice. It left us with lasting memories, and we can’t wait to return!

The location of the hotel on the beach is excellent, most beautiful sunset views and the infinity pool is a nice touch. There is ample space to lounge out on with the beach in view. The food was good and every night was different. Breakfast was the same every morning. The hotel however is not well maintained. While the pools, outside gardens and surroundings are neat and taken care of the rooms could do with some maintenance. The taps seemed either rusted or burnt with acid. The shower head looked like it had dried grime that cannot be cleaned. Although the room and bathroom is always kept clean it just needs some new finishing. The bar fridge never worked so the drinks were always warm. The bar fridge was so discolored (was white but now yellow) and rusted. We requested to be moved because the initial room was located close to a nearby club so the door would rattle because of the bass at the club. It was quieter where they moved us but the door couldn’t lock, one day there was no water in the bathroom so could not flush or shower. The safe was old so also struggled everytime we needed to open and close it. It really just needs some money to be spent on little things. I spoke to another guest who mentioned their aircon was leaking and that they also felt the hotel needed some care.
