We absolutely loved our stay at After Xi Men homestay in Tainan! The location is great, on a quiet street within walking distance of all the main sights. There’s also a bus stop nearby for bus 102, which takes you to Anping. Communication via WhatsApp was super easy and always smooth. They even let us check in before 4 pm, and we were able to leave our luggage there after check-out without any problem, which we really appreciated. The place itself has so much character, with lovely vintage decor and a really unique charm. Our favourite feature was the automatic mahjong table, which turned out to be perfect entertainment on a rainy day! The only little thing we missed was a kettle in the shared kitchen to make tea or prepare Instant soup. We loved our stay here and would definitely recommend this place to anyone visiting Tainan!

Amazing place! Central, clean and for a good price. I was practically alone there on a weekday -- I even decided to stay an extra night. Coffee and laundry for free (only for foreigners). The only downside was that the mattress was a bit deformed and bent to one side.

This guesthouse is a renovated old house that has retained its original structure, with a modern minimalist interior design. While it doesn't have luxurious amenities, given the limitations of an old house renovation, its cleanliness and comfort are more than satisfactory. The space is indeed not large, so it might feel a bit cramped if you have a lot of luggage or large suitcases. It's more suitable for light travelers. If you're simply looking for a comfortable place to sleep for a night in Tainan city, this place is perfectly fine.

The landlady was incredibly welcoming and recommended great restaurants nearby – fantastic! I'd definitely stay here again if I'm ever in Tainan. Highly recommend it!

This location is super convenient for getting to all the attractions. You can take direct transportation to Anping Fort, Shennong Street, Chihkan Tower, and more. Lin Department Store is just a short walk away, literally a few dozen meters. The hostel itself is beautiful inside, very quiet at night, and the rooms are spacious. It offers excellent value for money!

The hotel and room are very nice, in a very good position and has a very good price. The problem is the communication with the staff. I tried to contact a day in advance on WhatsApp (they asked me to add them on WhatsApp when I booked, and at the beginning, a few weeks ago, they answered) to know when I could bring my luggage there but I got no answer. Later that day and next morning I tried again with the same result. I also asked a friend in Taiwan to call them on this number but no answer. Then I decided to go to the hotel, I found another phone number and another WhatsApp but unfortunately I got no answer again. Luckily another client let me enter with the code to bring my luggage. I finally got an answer 4 hours later I left the hotel. That's a pity, I don't know what happened. Hope I only was very unlucky that day.

My booking consisted of 2 double beds however due to a mismatch of details from trip, upon contacting the homestay, they notified that they only provide 1 double bed for every room. Other than that mishap, the stay was pleasant enough. Be prepared for the steep steps of Tainan. Other issues with the homestay was that there were no toothbrush/toothpaste provided, no proper bathroom mat (it was the spongy type), no proper heating in the room. The entrance was a bit hard to find especially when it gets dark. They provided 2 waterbottles for us and subsequent refills were obtained from the dispenser in the main area on Level 1. There is a public fridge and toilet in the main area too. Closeby amenities include street food alleyway with some clothes shops, 7/11, Watsons. Location was a bus ride away from Tainan Metro so relatively convenient! But .taxi would be even better.

I’m very torn about this one because the staff were absolutely amazing, probably one of the best services we got in Taiwan. However, the cleanliness was a bit disappointing when it comes to the room and bathroom. I’ve definitely seen worse and the female-only bathroom was way better than the shared one, but overall I can’t give it a five star. That said, we got there after a very rainy day, so maybe that played a factor into making it hard to keep everything tidied up.

This hotel is in the north of the city, so if you don't enjoy walking then use a taxi or the local buses. The room was a nice size for one person, and the decor was quite remarkable: there are bilingual signs on every wall and on any surfaces too - I found it charming in a cartoon way, but so could see how it might irritate other people. There are plenty of ATMs and places to eat nearby. It was a fine budget choice.
