3-Star Hotels in Cologne

The hotel location was great, and so close to the subway for easy transport into the city. When I made the reservation, it did not indicate that parking was an additional fee, just that there was parking. Not that parking was very much, but I don't recall seeing a fee posted on the booking website, and it was jusy unexpected. The room was sufficient- a tiny bit smaller than expected. And the room had a slight sour smell, not sure if it was mildew or just stuffy from the winter west weather, but we were only there one night, so we didn't fuss. The check-in staff spoke less english than expected, but was okay, as my Deutsch was just good enough we could meet in the middle. Breakfast was a good spread and the attendants were plenty.

When I was checking in, I was a little worried the staff would be unable to speak English. However the two receptionists who helped me were perfectly fluent and answered any questions I had. I did unfortunately have to pay a city tax on top of my room, but it wasn’t expensive and this is a common thing in most hotels in Europe. The room itself was pretty decent and had plenty of space for my suitcase and to walk around. The en-suite was great and had good towels and hot shower. The bed was comfy with a good mattress and duvet wise, but the pillows were a bit limp and didn’t have a lot in them. I spoke to another member of staff who spoke little English, who said he’d look and bring one to my room, but this never happened. Whatever the case, still had a good sleep, would have better with extra head comfort. As for breakfast, there was a great variety of choice from fry-up food (bacon, sausages, eggs) to continental pastries and drinks. I would say the only downside was there was not enough for fruit, as there was only a few apples and plates of sliced oranges. Would have been better if there was more to choose fruit wise, but everything else was great and was a good fuel up for the day in Cologne. When checking out, they also allowed me to place my luggage and bags in their storage room with zero charge which is great when you’re exploring for the day and have a later departure time. Overall, if you’re in Cologne for a day (like me) or two, this place is a great option and I would stay here again!

This hotel boasts an unbeatable location right next to Cologne Central Station, making it incredibly convenient for catching trains or exploring the city's attractions. You can walk to the main station and the cathedral in just a few minutes. The room layout is simple and practical, featuring a single bed, TV, and a small table and chairs – everything you need. It's clean and tidy, though the decor is quite minimalist and plain, without any extra frills. The service was standard; check-in was reasonably efficient, with no particular warmth but also no slip-ups. At around 650 RMB, the price is about what you'd expect for a central Cologne location. It's a good choice for travelers who prioritize convenience and don't require luxurious accommodations.

The advantages are its good location, close to Rudolfplatz metro station, with many restaurants and supermarkets nearby. The hotel breakfast is quite plentiful, the service is acceptable, and the cleanliness is decent, with clean bedding. The disadvantages, focusing on the key points: First, the room is small, probably around 10 square meters. The bathroom is only about 4.5 square meters, and the shower is also small. Besides two disposable paper cups in the bathroom, no other water cups or bottled water are provided. The room is on the second floor, and the elevator seems to have been added later, requiring a half-floor walk down stairs to exit. The room is generally clean, but the carpet is a major disappointment, looking like it could harbor dirt and grime. On the day of check-in, I found two very tiny ants on the desk and promptly killed them; those afraid of insects should be cautious. Also, due to a trade fair in Cologne during my stay, the room price almost doubled; avoid booking during trade fairs if you're going to Cologne.

It's quite close to the convention center, about a 10-minute walk. There's a supermarket nearby, but no restaurants, so you have to walk across the river for food. The breakfast is pretty limited, mostly just cereal, so I recommend bringing some instant noodles.

Check-in must be done at a series of hotels, and be careful because there is no front desk in the place displayed on Google Maps and you can't enter directly (breakfast is also another building). I will guide you through the intercom, but I think it would have been smoother if you informed me in advance. There seemed to be several buildings, and the accommodation was also different, but it was divided into a dining room with a kitchenette and a bedroom, so I was able to spend a comfortable time! (although it was completely different from the photo at the time of booking) There is also movement between buildings without elevators, but if you don't mind the area, Cospa is often recommended.

My stay at Essential by Dorint Köln-Junkersdorf was quite good overall. Here's a brief summary for your reference: Room Environment: The room was spacious and bright with excellent natural light, and clean and tidy. The bed was a comfortable firmness, and the bathroom had a separate shower and toilet, which was convenient. Dining Experience: The breakfast had a variety of choices, Western-style, including stir-fried vegetables and hot dishes! Service Attitude: The front desk staff were friendly and polite, and the check-in/check-out process was quick! Cons: We only checked in and checked in to park and unload our luggage, and the front desk said the parking lot downstairs was outsourced, and we were charged 7 euros for parking for over an hour!!!!! Later, we noticed that parking on the nearby street was free. Free water was only provided for check-in guests, but the amount was reduced~~~ It used to be a large bottle.

Clean room, helpful staff. However no fridge or, tea/coffee facilities. No water supplied use in the heat. No aircon and leaving our windows open meant we were kept awake by those sittimg on the roof directly oimutsode and week smoke drifing into our room. Good central location and easy to get places.

Disappointed in standard of hotel, on arrival was told all parking was booked out. Room on 3rd floor was small with unwanted extra bed taking up spare space. Bathroom was adequate with shower over bath which had a high step in and no handholds barely adequate shower curtain did not stop water spilling onto floor. Noisy location next to lift and noise from adjacent hotel late into night twice with patrons waking us up at 2am on return to room's. Breakfast was ok with reasonable choice, plenty of black coffee. Overall would not choose to stay again even at budget pricing.

The hotel is very conveniently located, 3-5 minutes from the central train station. The hotel itself has several buildings. Ours was in the building next door; you had to walk down the hallway, go outside, and then go back up to the 4th floor. There's no elevator. We had a bunk room for four with two double beds. The second room is in the attic. The room was moderately clean, a bit shabby. This is despite the hotel opening in 2026. Apparently, it was a different hotel or some kind of apartment before that. The beds were very comfortable, the mattresses were excellent, the towels were new and clean. The nightstands were okay. The kitchen only had a sink and cabinets with doors that had fallen off. There were no dishes or a kettle. The bathroom door slammed into the coat stand when opened. The view from the window was excellent, directly onto the church. Overall, we're very grateful to this hotel, as it saved us. We accidentally ended up in Cologne during an international gaming festival at the end of August, and all the hotels were either fully booked or had exorbitant prices. This hotel was reasonably priced. Staying there for just one night was a real stroke of luck. We hope the hotel team can work out the room's shortcomings and improve even more! Good luck!
